  1. Thank you! That answered my question, and as far as my physical health is concerned I'm physically healthy and a very hard worker. Whew!
  2. I'm just afraid that I will be judged if I have to file for some type of disability. This can come up from just typical questions, normally found on applications.
  3. I was told that your Medical background affects your acceptance in any college. Would then this be one of those things that can disqualify me?
  4. Well I'm one year away from transferring out and have been working FT and going to school FT. My work was never affected and I got good recognition until my new boss, who is about n My age began to harass me about work, with nothing solid to base it on, when i asked her. but Because I was a temporary employee I was told she didn't have to deal with me period, what she said supersedes what I say ( O_O) I've since been diagnosed with anxiety and asked to see a psychologist, I was so devastated and had a panic attack. now I fear that this will affect my application to any college. ; ( to top things off, I was laid off before I could turn in my medical leave documents. Any advice? I feel like what I have been working so hard is slipping off my control ;(
  5. Ruth88 haha My parent's haven't been around since I was 11. One passed away, the other got lost after. In anycase, I have moved in with my brother, but rent is not free. I'm trying to work work work and save money, but it's just not adding up. : (
  6. Thank you vintagemother This is my first time going back to school and doing it Full Time. Just never had the opportunity since I've had to work my entire life so far. I just felt like I'm on my own and have to do everything on my own, it's really scary, especially now. Thank you so much for the advice!
  7. Thanks everyone! I have heard of such programs, but have yet to inquire. I will begin my search with assistance now. Don't want to have loose ends if and when the time comes. Ashleym9831: what school did you get accepted too? I'm in southern California.
  8. I am still in the process of taking my pre-reqs but i am concerned that Financial Aid and Loans may not cover all my expenses: Child Care Rent ($400 i rent a room) Those are my main expenses. Confused and worried, any help or guidance?
  9. Thank YOU!! Now I will for sure buy the book. I bough the McGrwall Hill one, but it always helps when you include a score, says alot about the practise material.
  10. Thanks for the great advise. How can i find out about how the test will be proctored?
  11. I am about to begin one of my first pre-reqs. this Summer, Psychology and it hit me. For "Fall" I want to be able to prepare myself to take the TEAS exam right away before I begin the rest of my pre-req's, since they are vital to my acceptance into Impacted Universities in southern California. But is it best to take the TEAS after these courses? which courses offer the best education and preparation for the info you will be tested on the TEAS? So if you did great on TEAS and feel that one course may have helped more than the other, please give me your suggestions. The courses are as followed: ANATOMY 120 REFRESH ANATOMY 150 & 151 CHEMISTRY 100 MICROBIOLOGY 200 COLLEGE ALGEBRA SOCIOLOGY Any thoughts?
  12. :bow:You rock! I'm 33 and wish I would have done this at your age. I had my son at an early age and now i just had my daughter in 2010. I think of what I could have contributed to his life, had I started sooner. So much kudos to you for just making this decision. If you haven't heard it yet...from one mama to another "im proud of you!" and so will your kids.
  13. Thank you for posting your School info. You may want to start a threat or post under UCF or ABSN to get more in depth responses. I wish I could help with your question but I am not familiar oh how impacted the schools in your area are. In CA i know that getting into BSN is alot easier. Your scores seem competitive, in CA your TEAS score is good, the average I believe is 90% overall here. I would study one more time and just take it again, whats the worst that can happen besides scoring a little higher. :) Hope this was helpful. Good LUCK!
  14. Where is everyone looking? I see alot of comments but no indication as to the areas you are speaking for, it really helps to know where. Location, Department etc. HealthCare is such a wide arena that we cannot set hopes in generality this is a much broader area to cover. Just trying to show some light for those who are struggling. Keep in mind that our only limits are those we create for ourselves. Hope this helps and motivates to keep looking
  15. Which cycle are in now, how long will it last and who is it affecting?
  16. WOW impressed, I'm amazed and admired by so many adults, parents...parents :) who have gone back to school, while supporting a family and so on. I think we are all on the same track with studying and putting our hardest into something that will help us and our families in the future. :w00t:You all give me the motivation and inspiration to not give up on a dream a goal that has obstacles up ahead. I will continue to post my experiences, knowledge and guidance to help fellow students and nurses. Having that said I borrowed my sons Earth, Physical, and Biological textbooks :) I know many say 30 is still young, but these books look so ancient to me now. Thank God! for my little munchkins.Little do they know but they teach us alot too :) My son looked over my TEAS book, his reponse "thats it? this is easy stuff mom, you can do this!" if he only knew.
  17. I'm curious, what is the major difference with the ADN and BSN, i know that obviously one is a Bachelors degree and the other is a A.A I so far see that it is alot of courses almost same for BSN and with same pre-reqs and i hate to question your decesion I'm single parent and i know how hard it is and im sure its 3x harder for you, but why not pursue the BSN? I think it will get more difficult to obtain it later with having a busy work schedule and supporting a family so just wondering why some take this route..thoughts?
  18. Hi Everyone! I will be applying late 2014 to Cal State Long Beach, once I've completed all my pre-reqs and TEAS. I work full-time for a health plan and have daycare and babysitting expenses that I cannot make dissapear (don't we all wish). I would hate to think that I will complete my courses get accepted and there will be no money to help me out with this. So my questions is, If your typical BSN program without pre-reqs (assuming you completed at a JC) costs around $20-$30k, some covered by Financial Aid and Student Loans, does anyone know if living expenses and daycare can be added? In this day and age, how are loans and financial institutions helping older adults with continued education to increase job security? I've been on a temporary assignment with no benefits for 3 years now, a degree in Nursing will definately put me in a better position increase my chances of finding stable work, but how much help can i get if it means having no work for two years? Has anyone experienced this or has found resources? So far i know that i can apply for loans but im preparing for worst case scenario. Being: not so good credit and I am at almost 90 units. Help!!
  19. Just read this and I'm curious to know what area you are from? Some colleges allow you to begin the BSN program if you already have a B.S. in a different area. May i ask why a LVN opposed to the RN?
  20. Hi Lucy Yes I'm going to be brave and attempt to get into Cal State Long Beach. Any suggestions on other nursing BSN programs? Also, which study guide did you order and did you find it helpful? As far as testing dates, do you mean the TEAS or Cal State Long Beach entrance testing? You know this is news to me, thanks for the heads up, i will be looking to see who offers these crash courses, anything helps at this point. Im noticing that the practise i will be doing will not just help with my TEAS test, but overall its a great brush up on those of us who have been out of school for a while. So my recommendation is study for TEAS every break you get in school, because this info. will help you in all your course work.
  21. :) Man-Nurse congradulations on everything! i know men are on demand and with your scores im sure you will have no problem getting hired. I'm honestly so glad to hear all the feedback i am getting here, yes i see its a syndrome now, I also don't have a clue as to what it is but maybe its just a half way point who knows. But im going to keep on pushing and try to not look to much into my age. Most of my critics are my family. Mothers are always expected to do for their families than themselves. Thank you so much for the inspiration. Where are you from? I'm in southern California and the odds of getting in are very difficult and competitive high scores are a must! I will have to do more homework to determine if any of the colleges down here expect the best TEAS score to consider taking it for a trial run, which is a great! idea. Thanks again, and please keep posting your experience with the school you get into, courses, study material etc. I know everyone on here can use it. Best of luck!
  22. Hi Michelle, I ended up purchasing a new copy of the TEAS McGraw (not the exact name) exam guide on Amazon, really cheap for new copy. I got the version with the CD and so far Its a good eye opener on what anyone would need to study.
  23. I am currently taking my pre-reqs at a JC in hopes to transfer to CSLB. Obviously almost every University is impacted. I will be transfering with more than 60 units. I should be ready to transfer by end of 2014 if all goes well. My fear right now is that, like anyone else, I don't get in. Having this said, I want to start practising for the TEAS exam now! so that I am fully prepared and not scrambling at the list minute. Any suggestions on my timing? what book to buy, the versions etc.? Any suggestions on what not to do? Or when is the best time? Also does anyone know if the test is changed, and how many times? This would help me in purchasing the appropriate book to study from. I'm going on 32, have one teenager going into High school and a toddler starting pre-school at the end of the year, im super nervous and anxious and well its very late in life to be doing this and im getting so much critisism from many because its late. Just need little advise and motivation.
