  1. oh I agree but 4 of them ( 2 per class) is crazy. I don't pay 4500 per tri mester to watch you tube and get nothing back :) ... We are just cranky at the moment with all this.
  2. That is what we are all trying to do now is teach ourselves. We actually have 2 teachers per class on lecture and then a different one for Clinical. And if one tells you something and its on the test.. you just get it wrong since you are not going by what the examiner wanted. For an example, we had check offs recently.. 6 people had the same tester... 3 of got marked off for not checking gait, while the other 3 didn't , and none of the 6 checked gait. 2 got marked off for not asking about any chewing problems or bleeding when assessing digestive , while the others were just allowed to ask if there was any digestive problems and that was all that was said.... all by the same examiner, one right after another ...
  3. Private university.. Great school but not nursing department. TO them everything is top secret and we are not in the circle to know anything.
  4. So frustrated . It has taken me everything to get into nursing school.. I jumped through hoops and then some. And it was by the grace of God , that he got me in . But what is frustrating to me is , this is my first tri- mester and there is no teaching !! I mean they show up in class. They read from power points and we watch you tube. But when it comes to care plans and nursing skills templates... I am lost. You ask a question and its so vague you are left scratching your head. I mean seriously no teaching . Out of 36 in the class, only 2 are passing it.. AND WE HAVE TO ONLY HAVE A 77 ON THE TEST/ class to pass !! Majority is in the middle to higher 60's. We was given a case study, remediation template on nursing skills and just told to do it . We got a few handouts asking us questions like vitals signs, I&O ( fever patient) and medications... but this skills sheet is the first we have ever seen or heard about it. You ask and their answer is " that is for you to figure out." You cant complain there as when you do, a big red bulls eyes goes on your back.. trust me this I know quite well. Is all nursing school like this?
  5. Great !!! I am not sure what books they are using -- I looked up the other classes in the program and they are not ATI books so I am not sure if there will be another one the professor will add or not-- I do know that after certain classes we have to take a ATI test an that is part of the grade, Thank you for your reply. I was figuring that all meds, conditions and calculations will go but was not sure on what else
  6. I am getting ready to start nursing school here in a few weeks ( June 2) and I know life is about to get really crazy . At this time I am trying to get everything in order with upcoming classes and home. I am wondering if you all could share your tips, suggestions and answer a question for me. I do have to admit, my life is crazy as I have my daughter ( 14 years old) here ( my boyfriend also has a 10 year old , I have my mom who is in ESRD that lives with us ( i do treatments , dr appts, ordering -- everything).... I also go and help out his dad who is also in ESRD....... That is why I am trying to get everything I possibly can done before I start , so I can stay on track. Our terms are 10 weeks long . So far I have: Stocked up on note cards, highlighters , Ramon noodles, chips ( for the family of course :) ) I have 2 planners to keep track of everything ( to carry) White board calendar hanging on the wall Desk calendar under my monitor ( I think I should be covered on planners / calendar) Cleaned my lap top off to store all information and down loaded some books White board to use at desk Question. I have been reading some of the post and I read where someone mentioned making note cards for the NCLEX test right from the beginning.. I have not even looked at a study manual yet, but what would you suggest that I put on those note cards? IS here anything else you can think of that I am missing ? I want to thank you all for everything--- I have been on the boards for about 2 years now and I finally passed the TEAS for a second time ( I had to take some time off with mom when she got diagnosed) But all the post have been so helpful
  7. Thanks-- After my mom went into kidney failure last year I have had to keep a calendar for all her appointments-- I am looking for a computer calendar that will alert on my desktop on assignments or appts---- I know you use the ipad-- I have an android tablet, linux desktop computer and then my laptop is windows--- do you have any suggestions ? Or is there any apps that helped you ?
  8. HI everyone !!! I finally passed the Teas test and I am schedule for classes June 2. We do trimesters at my school so I am looking for any tips or things ( supplies) done before classes start. Are there any things that you found that you needed and had to rush out and get ( I already have a stock of note cards...lol), or was there something you wish you had more organized? I hope I am asking this right. I am just wanting to try and have everything set before classes start since we our classes are only 10 weeks long. I know its gonna be crazy but I am sooooo ready for it !!! all advice, tips, suggestions greatly appreciated. thanks in advanced
  9. After having to take a year or so off to help with my mother ( she went into kidney failure in Jan 2013 and has moved in with me so I can do her dialysis treatments), I enrolled back in the fall of 2013 and took my chemistry. BUt I am happy to say that I just took my Teas on March 21, 2014 and I received a passing grade of 72.7 !!!! My program requires a 67 and the first time I took it I got 65.7..... So I should be getting my acceptance letter in the mail at the end of April...... This site has helped me so much -- by following what others had used to study--- Thank you all very much !!!!
  10. Sadly no . A college down the street from me only requires a 60 to get into the program but its only for an associates degree and this school I attend now is for a Bachelors .. I am thinking about staying where I am and retesting in February. I was speaking to the lady who gave the test and I mentioned it was the Chemistry that hurt me and she was shocked that my adviser had me take the test before Chemistry... Oh well, I take it next term so it should not stump me again!!! Pray that they don't change the versions of the test-- so I can use my study manual to continue to study. Math was super easy and that was the one I was worried about. Reading was okay, English was normal ( asking what was a adverb, verb.... etc)... I had no anatomy on the science--- no mitosis or meiosis, A few questions on the sun and the effects on earth and tons of electrons, neutrons, electronegatively, dense etc.
  11. I had tons of electron and chemical questions on mine-- electronegtivity, dense type questions,
  12. 1) Acceleration and gravity question--- none of the others-- I had a lot of electrons, neutrons and chemicals on mine
  13. 65.3% on my teas and my school requires 67.0
  14. Well no news yet but I am sure I didnt pass. Science part was hard and I don't recall some of the questions being in the study book. I do believe I killed the Math section tho..... Still kinda disappointed with all that has come out at my school on the program. Found out that they only have 30 spots open ( and this is like this every testing) and over 200 people applying for a position. I have no idea when test results are going to be posted as the school has the results blocked. Get this ( and this is why I am upset). I have been at this school for almost a year and we are on a 10 week term. I have to meet with my adviser in order to register for classes( 6 times now). She checks my transcripts and registers me for the class I need for the nursing program. NOW after I find out only 30 seats are available ( and they only start the program 2 times a year) the director actually sits down and goes through the transcripts to see if people are eligible to be in the program. My thinking is..... should this have not been done in the beginning, before I have taken these classes, before I paid $50.00 to take the TEAS? So with that being said , even if I pass I may not get into the program. Not sure if this is at all schools or only certain ones...... Plus on top of that they are holding test scores.... FRUSTRATING I TELL YOU !!!!!!
  15. Well due to Hurricane Isaac, my test got pushed back and its tomorrow.... I am sooooo nervous and scared. I have been studying everyday -- all day long and on the practice test ( 2 from the ATI study guide book and the TEAS secrets) I am satisfactory. The test from the study manual--- I average about 72-74 and on the TEAS secret-- I average 66.5-68.5........ I found out we have to have a composite score of 67 to be admitted into the program. I am in the ball park but not good as I would like. Its just to close for comfort for me as I know the test can go either way-- if its harder than the practice test , then I know I will bomb it-- but if the practice test are harder then I have a fighting chance. I keep telling myself that GOD has put me back into the nursing field and has helped me along the way with the financial part-- the dates and times have gotten changed twice, when I knew I was not ready- so I believe he wont let me fail....... but it still worries me. So please say a little prayer for me tonight that all goes well and I can report back to here tomorrow ( if I get my test results -- its on the computer) that I passed. You all have been so helpful here with all the information I have read!!!!
