  1. Hey! First and foremost, welcome to BULHSON! Sorry for the long time taken to respond, the semester has been very busy and going by fast! Yeah it seems I got lucky with this thread because no one seems to post about Baylor for some reason. Idk why.... Anywho, I personally bought 3 sets of scrubs, but have still yet to put a patch on the 3rd set (they only give us 2 patches I believe) so you'd have to buy the third. But I work with alot of nurses that went to LHSON, so I have alot of extra scrubs with/out patches if you need any. Our first semester, alot of the students had problems with the e-book package, I can't say what exactly it was because I got the actual books. To be honest I think its what you're most comfortable with. I personally like the reliability of books, but I have used the ebooks alot. I would also be careful with amazon because you will need alot of the resources and codes for your classes especially your J1 semester, then again I know there were some students that have bought from amazon. I don't use baylor's insurance because I had private insurance prior to enrollment, so I don't know if financial aid covers that. Alot of students get their vaccines through them(recommended clinic), again I work at the hospital so am able to get it there. I promise you we all felt the exact same way when we first started. The first semester is stressful but because it is alot of information to take in, learn , and apply. But we are all in the learning process so know that there are upper level students willing to help and give advice. You'll never feel entirely alone here. Plus the staff are amazing they are so nice and helpful so never be afraid to ask. For any other questions that we can't answer (health insurance/vaccines), just call the nursing school and ask. But I hope this helps some goodluck!
  2. Wait.. I think this is the email that yall are talking about but its neither of those girls =/ Im sure we can meet on the 8th (day of bbq) or I have this sunday 11/5 off if anyone wants to meet for coffee or something before orientation? :)
  3. I didn't get an email? Except one from about 3 weeks ago..
  4. I plan on working but I'm very nervous about it. Especially since the first semester is possibly the hardest. I'm still hoping I can get a Thursday clinical to work Saturdays but nothing is for sure. I'm trying to work Sundays from 3-11 but idk if that was a smart move because I should use that day to study for Mondays.. I want to keep working but I don't want to mess up in school either.. I'm so torn..! What do yall think?
  5. I def would of liked to meet but I had to work =/ I'd be working again today
  6. Yes, happy holidays to everyone! Can't wait to meet yall next year! 2014:x3:!!
  7. Have you looked into scholarships, loans, or spoken to the financial aid advisor about this? Money is a huge factor though. I almost didn't apply because of that, but I honestly didn't think I'd get accepted either. I really was hoping to meet everyone from here, but in the end do what's best for you!
  8. What? how come!?? =/
  9. Really!? I haven't ordered scrubs either! I've been so distracted with moving and work that I completely forgot !! well at least I'm not the only one
  10. I haven't ordered the books just yet, I need to though! What days/time is orientation supposed to be? I forgot..
  11. That would be awesome! Yeah let me know please Thank you!
  12. Yeah I know, but thats if someone wants to ..
  13. I am definitely more comfortable with the actual books so am getting that. I also have a saturday clinical, but don't know how I feel about it since I was hoping to work at least Saturdays... BUT am still excited about it!!
  14. Christie, I asked the lady at World Uniform (where the scrubs are sold) the same question, and she recommended at least 3 sets. She said Baylor changed the rules to anytime your in the hospital you have to wear scrubs therefore needing more than 2 sets. Other than clinicals and being in the hospital, I don't think we have to wear scrubs to classes? Ultimately, its up to you
  15. Has anyone looked into The Camden at Farmers Market? Its like 7 min away from the campus and have better pricing options than the Broadstone? I've actually already paid the deposit for a one bedroom loft, but am willing to get a roommate and switch it to a 2bed/2bath. If anyone is interested!
  16. Welcome AsiaW! It's nice to hear from more soon to be Baylor nursing students :) wantobe a RN I went to the parking services center here at BUMC and he said that I don't have to pay (because I am an employee there) but students that aren't do. The way he explained it, he's waiting on someone from the school to send him the list of students that are going to need a parking sticker. Which is why (Im guessing) it's something we don't have to worry about maybe later.
  17. Hey everyone so that is a great idea to meet for coffee/lunch and I'd def try to go to the BBQ too! The only thing is I work 5days a week 3-11 so if anyone is up for a meeting before then. Or I can try to meet on one of my off days. I also met a current student today with tips she's willing to let us know of. She too was a transfer spring student and think she understands our anxiety about it lol. Btw I'm basically 23 yo (bday in couple days :) ) not married and have no kids, and work at the hospital (across the street ) as a tech. Even though I'm nearby I need to get closer because I'm pretty much gonna be here 24/7 lol. So there's a little bit about me. Let me know when and where y'all wanna meet! :)
  18. Hey! So it was interesting to go through the nursing school and tour the building and classes. We also ended up going into the hospital and watched some powerpoints and faculty explain different topics (financial aid, classes, housing, etc). I was in the morning group and even then they split us all up into smaller groups and went through each section in the school pretty quick. Therefore it was hard to try to recognize anyone from here. But I did get the chance to go look at the apts in the surrounding area and really do want to try to get a roommate to get a 2 bed/2 bath somewhere! With that being said, idk if anyone is interested in at least exchanging facebook info or twitter (Im mainly fb but do have a twitter just in case) lol? This way we can start knowing each other beforehand because afterall... we are all going to spend a great deal of time together! Yall let me know yalls thoughts!
  19. I agree with Crystal! I've gotten my shots at Baylor and paid no where near that and that was before I applied to nursing school. I can only imagine they're reasonable with the nursing students..
  20. CCsmith, thanks for sharing!
  21. The only one I can think of is the Holiday Inn at Mockingbird? It's kinda close and descent.
