I'm a nurse educator working on revising a lecture on congenital cardiac defects and am working on the PGE portion. It says that PGE is not advised for babies with PPHN but doesn't explain why. I *feel* like I remember sometimes giving PGE to babies with PPHN, especially if it was the result of some other defect like diaphragmatic hernias. Can someone help me out? I'm puzzled!

Hey guys, I'm taking a test to end orientation for my new job in the NICU and would like someone to explain these practice problems to me just for extra confirmation. Thank you SO much! 1) You have a baby who has a dopamine drip infusing. Immediately after report, you check your drip to verify the correct amount infusing. You have a 30cc syringe and it has 49.5 mg of dopa in it. What IV mcg/kg/min are infusing into your baby? 2) You have a baby who is receiving 0.1 mcg/kg/min of PGE. His IV rate is 2cc/hr. The NNP writes an order to decrease the PGE to 0.05 mcg/kg/hr. How would you do that? 3) Your baby is going to receive Survanta 4 ml/kg. Your baby weighs 0.5 kgs. You will divide this up into 4 doses administered in 4 different positions. How much Survanta will you give in each position? 4) You have an admit who will be started on Gentamicin. The gent dose is 6.25 mg. The vial is 10 mg/ml. How much gent will you administer? What are 2 of the potential toxic side effects of gent?

I just checked the mail and I GOT IN! I had a preprof. GPA of 3.65 and an overall of a 3.7. There's hope people! I didn't think I would get in with my GPA.

Has anyone heard anything about when they're mailing letters? I just found out that I got accepted to another program, so I do have a backup, but I want to get into UF soooo badly it hurts!

I'm also a current student at UF! I applied back in March to the Fall 2013 program, but I honestly don't remember even getting a confirmation email from them saying that I applied...I KNOW that I did though. I emailed ******* about it a few minutes ago. Just a couple more weeks! Good luck to everyone!

I'm getting ready to finish up my nursing BSN and am at a crossroads. I can't decide whether or not I want to go back to school in a couple of years to be an NP or stay an RN. Something that I consider when thinking about this is my life OUTSIDE of my job. In a few years I want to start a family and am worried that one profession or the other will allow me a lot more time to spend with my family. From your experience, what profession offers more "free time" (I know, ALL careers are busy!) but looking back on it, which profession offers you the best "home life" benefits? I just want to be able to spend time with my family and do wifely/mommy duties without having to completely quit my job! Thanks everyone in advance :) -Taylor

I am planning on applying to UCF. Love Orlando AND Cocoa in general :) I'm sure the classes are challenging, but do you feel like you get all of the help you need? Is there any particular area you're interested in?

Hey everyone! I'm currently a pre-nursing student at the University of Florida getting ready to apply to the upper division for my BSN at the end of the summer. My top two choices are UF and the University of South Florida in Tampa. Does anyone here have opinons on good schools for a BSN in nursing? I want to apply to more than two schools. Also, if you DID get your BSN from UF or USF, what was your experience like? Thanks!! :)

Hey everyone! I'm a nursing student at the University of Florida graduating in a year with my bachelors degree, which of course would make me an RN. However, I'm considering applying to UF and USF for their masters programs and wanted to get some advice from people who have been in my position. I ultimately want to work in OB or neonatal, and would like to become a certified nurse midwife if I pursue my masters. I want to know what OB/neonatal/midwife experiences you all have had from the perspective of an RN and an NP. Like, what your duties are, a typical day, etc. Thank you all so much!
