  1. Thanks for the advise. I have been a practicing RN in a med/surg setting for six years. I think I have a solid foundation. I am being considered for the Wound Ostomy position at the facility where I am currently employed. Hopefully through networking with other professional in my local area I will find the answers I seek. Thanks again!
  2. Hello, I am wondering if there are any WOCN or ET nurses available to answer a few questions. I am about to graduate with my BSN in February and have considered ET school at the Cleveland Clinic next year. I am a single working nurse/mother and can not afford to make a bad decision. What is the difference between ET and WOCN certification? I would like to know what the job outlook is for this nursing specialty. What kind of salary can a nurse with certification expect to make? Where are these nurses employed? I live in Michigan but will be willing to relocate if necessary. Are there any Michigan ET or WOCN nurses out there who can answer my questions or steer me in the right direction to find out more information about this profession in my state? Thanks in advance to those who respond.
  3. I had the same thoughts as you a few years ago. I was already in the medical field so naturally I thought nursing was for me. Honestly I did not think this through carefully or fully explore other options. I wish I did. Don't get me wrong I really love nursing. I like the reward I feel from helping others. I think there are many other opportunities to still help people other than nursing. Nursing is a challenging field with considerable amount of rocky places. I have been in nursing as an RN for 4 years now and have not found my niche yet. The one thing going for an RN is the limitless opportunies offered. The down side is working with other women who gossip, managers who do nothing, rising costs, short staffing just to name a few. Explore other alternatives, research your options and choose carefully. Good luck. :balloons:
  4. I can not believe the response this posting is getting. WOW what a hot topic! I have short fine hair that is very difficult to style. Most nights I just go natural, maybe small amount of mousse. My friends with long hair usually wear thiers up. I think nurses should look professional always, hair, cleanliness, and uniforms included. :)
  5. I agree with you, we all need to get along. I work nights at my facility and find time to help my NA's, finish day shift admissions and do my own throughout the night. All without complaining. We are supposed to cover each other and assure people that things will be done. I think it all has to do with the power of positive thinking. Have a great Christmas
  6. Do you think that this has to do with clicks that are formed? Picking on someone who will not conform to the group norm, is this what you are saying? I know that I have personally had that experience. How do you handle personal attacks or even attacks on your professionalism as a nurse? :angryfire Thanks again for your input
  7. LPN1974, I think that tattletaling is a very nasty part of back biting. I believe that your DON feels very insecure with herself. She needs the gratification that tattltaling brings. It really is sad. It must be very hard to work in that kind of environment. In my department there are two nurses who constantly run to the NM about everything. These nurses also write other nurses up on a regular basis. I thought that we were to be a team and cover each other when the need arises. So many red flags have gone up that I have decided to leave my dept. for a job in a different field. Does the administator know about this recruitment for talltletaling? Thanks again for your input.
  8. I thought my dept. was the only one with these problems or that maybe the problem was me. In my dept. there are two coworkers who run the show. They have now recruited new grads into thier gossip group. I have had the same expereince as you. But with one more twist, by not listening and participating in thier gossip I have become the one singled out. Now the backbiting is against me. I have heard things from other nurses who are my friends, and let me tell you it really hurts. I have tried to rise above it but by doing this I don't fit in the group any more. The work environment is very stressful. So stressful for me that I have begun to have physical stress symptoms. I have resorted to taking another job in a different dept. Thanks for your response. :)
  9. I was wondering if anyone has a story or opinion regarding gossip and or back biting between nurse coworkers. I have experience with this myself but would like feedback from others for a paper I am writing. Thanks :rotfl:
