  1. Your right! Flight nursing is what I'm striving for. They are hoping that I can come in aug/ sept...so any day now. However my flight physical has to be accepted and my package submitted. I'm guessing they have to be completed before I get to start ...? Like everyone else I'm just super excited to get going. Many paths to the same destination. Good luck to us all. Thanks very much for all the info.
  2. Thank you for your info! Yes I've asked my recruiter lots of questions. He has been very vague since the beginning. I just found out he transferred to another job and my new recruiter is going to be talking with me next week. I think that most of my confusion is that I have no military background so all of the processes and terms are a foreign language to me. I read the chat boards and I'm not sure what does and doesn't apply to me. Many times when I do formulate my questions I find it doesn't even apply to my situation (like the COT-OTS thing ☺). Thanks again for the info. Good luck to you!
  3. No prob. Thanks for replying. Haven't talked to anyone yet who has gone the same path as me yet. Hope someone will answer me who can shine a little light on my path ?. Good luck on your journey.
  4. Applying for reserved but I'm going active for a year to get all my training in.
  5. No. I've been a nurse for seven years. So the board is for the NTP? Is there no "board" for OTS? Thanks for replying! Being spoon fed information is frustrating.
  6. Can anyone read my question under "package" and give me their opinion? So many things seem like a top secret...secret. A check off list of the steps to become an officer at the beginning of the process would be so much less confusing
  7. Dumb question but here goes anyway. No one has said anything to me about a board choosing me as a officer. They are saying that my package has to be submitted. Is this the same thing? I am applying for a specific position and no one has made any indication that I am competing against other people for the slot. I find that hard to believe after reading all the postings. Am I in denial that I'm the only person going for this position? Any opinions?
  8. You are a god send! Thank you. I'm going air force reserve but the first year I will be active to receive all my training to be a flight nurse. My work knows but everyone is on hold until I leave...everyone is shifting positions when I go PRN. They are requiring a month notice so it's a balancing game. UTA's will at least give me a feeling of belonging. Since I have no military experience I'm expecting to feel stupid quite often!!! It's worth it though!!! Thanks again for the info.
  9. Thanks for the info!! Did you do anything between steps besides wait? Did you do UTA's? Just feel like my life is on hold and everyone keeps asking me how long... Can't wait to start anything :) when should I give my work notice? COT dates as far as I can tell is Aug, Oct and Jan. Do you think Aug is out of the question? Maybe Oct. Sorry so many questions but I'm glad to talk to someone who been there, done that!
  10. Physical passed and package signed. Now I'm waiting for my oath and then COT. Anyone on the same track as me? Any clue how long it normally takes between the oath and actually getting to do something? Like everyone else the waiting is killing me.
  11. Its for your teeth. I had a root canal several years ago and was supposed to get a crown on the tooth. My tooth was fine so I never bothered with it but since a tooth that has had a root canal is considered weaker, they required a crown to be put on.
  12. Thank you so much for sharing! I'm going to be a flight nurse whenever I get in so hearing you tell what it's going to be like is exciting and scary all at the same time!! Thanks for the insight. Can't imagine a better job :)
  13. Everyones sence of humor makes my waiting so much easier. My blood work has finally come back normal...no more anemia!! My crown is planned to be put on Monday. My recruiter hasnt called me back in over a week but it is a holiday week so Im trying to be patient. So that would then mean that Ive: done MEPS, interview and now flying physical. So I believe that after that my package will be sent to me to sign and then I take my oath...and then Officer training??? Does that sound right? Anyone out there who is on the same path as me? I didnt realize how comforting it is to see others posts and realize Im not the only one on the slow boat to the military! Hoping to be living the dream soon!!!
  14. Do commissioned officers buy the uniforms outright or is there an allowance? About how much do they run? Just want to get a head start if possible.
  15. The waiting is killing me also. I found out Im anemic so I have to get my H&H within normal limits before I get to procede......I think im going to pull my hair out :)
  16. This might be a dumb question but what is the selection board? I am getting a direct commission as a flight nurse. I have passed meps and my interview. I just did my flying class physical. I should do my oath in about three weeks. I asked my recruiter if I am going to have to go before a selection board and he says no.., does the selection board apply to my situation? Why or why not? I have so little information and like most of you the waiting is killing me!!! Any advice/info???
  17. So far I have passed MEPS and had a great interview. Just did my flying class 3 physical. Passed everything except now I need a crown. I'm getting that done this month. My recruiter is submitting my packet so he says I should do my oath in about three weeks. I've read all the other forums and now I am wondering if this sounds right to all of you? I've read something about selection??? Does everyone have to go through selection. My recruiter seems to think that I just get in... How come I don't have to go through selection or is he wrong? I'm going to be a flight nurse through direct commission. Does that make a difference? Would love some info from someone who has already done this. Have other questions but this is so long already. Thanks for any info.
  18. Also wondering... I have some "dings" on my credit report that I reported to my recruiter. He has not said anything about it but I recently read that the air force is a stickler for good credit. Is this something I should be worried about? One of them has not been cleared up due to tough finances. Will this be a problem? Should I try to find a way to get this taken care of right away or is it not as big of a deal as I read. I plan of taking care of this unpaid debt with my sign on bonus but If it affects me getting in I want to know now versus later.
  19. Does everyone ( air force reserves) have to go through a selection board? I had an interview and I'm pretty sure she is interested in me but is it up to her or do I have other competition and a selection board?
  20. Thanks! I appreciate you letting me know
  21. Im a nurse that has been working for awhile and I have my BSN. I want to join the air force reserves as a flight nurse. I would love to talk to anyone who has gone through the process or is going through now. How long does the process take? I've passed meps and now I'm scheduled for an interview Monday. Then I guess it's officer training school. How long does that take? My recruiter says two weeks but that seems awful short for a newbie. What should I expect. How fit do I have to be? My recruiter says not to worry about it... But I do! Any info-heads up would be appreciated. Thanks
