  1. Thank you for the neighborhood comparison. That really helps a lot. Knowing someone from Chicago (a beautiful city minus the weather) likes san diego is great too.
  2. I am starting the process for RN reciprocity in California. I have done live scan fingerprinting and now want to get the transcripts done. My question is does the form found on the website for transcript request need to be completed? I can request transcripts from my schools online and have them sent directly to the board. I am several hours away from the nursing school I graduated from though if it is required for the form to be completed by the school registrar. I tried calling the board of registered nursing, but of course cannot get through to anyone Thanks for your help!
  3. I am contemplating trying travel nursing to help determine if I truly would like to move to another state. I have always been intrigued by the thought of travel nursing given it allows you to see new things/places much easier than vacations. I am a single RN and am wondering if any travel nurses currently or when they started out traveling also kept an apartment in their home city? Getting rid of my apartment when I'm not sure if I will like the travel nursing makes me nervous. Thanks for all insight :)
  4. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't see a city specific forum. Do you know how I find it? It is not immediate when searching san diego
  5. I am a 30 year old, single female looking to make a big change and move to San Diego. I have been an RN for 5 years with my most recent hospital experience being on an ICU step-down of a very busy level I trauma center. I just returned from visiting San Diego and am in love with the weather and the beauty. I have started the process for reciprocity In my online searches, North Park seems to be a good area for a young, single professional, but I am looking for any insight locals may have. I have a car, but do love being able to walk and/or use public transportation. Given I'd be moving across the country alone, safety is of course important as well. As for jobs, does California have ICU step-down units? I was thinking of focusing on trying to get in with UCSD medical center with the thought I might go back to school for FNP. SD has a higher cost of living than Chicago so pay matters too Thank you in advance for any and all advice/insight!
  6. The info session was only about 35-40 minutes. It went over history of UIC, the core classes of the DNP, and gave us a folder with sample schedule if going full-time. She said if you're not a good writer, then get help because it will include a lot. One of the final things you do in the program is a proposal project that you end up actually implementing and ideally become a published author. Most of the people at the session I attended were interested in FNP. Full-time FNP student can be done in 3 years if starting with BSN. For part-time it is 4 or 5 years.
  7. When I asked during the info session, I was told they are looking to accept 80-100 students between all of the campuses and all of the specialties I can relate! I completed a FAFSA and applied for the UIC scholarship. If admitted, then there are more scholarships that you can apply to.
  8. Did you interview yet?
  9. Truly have no idea! I did the best that I could and hopefully it was enough:) This is the first time they started a new process. My interviewer said they all ask the same questions (which is surprising that's new), a group of people look at the applications, a group look at the interviews, and then they come together. Then still, there is a committee that takes the recommendations and makes the ultimate decisions. My interviewer is on the committee so that could be a good or bad thing.
  10. I interviewed yesterday. Now the long wait until April to find out. Anyone have any idea how many people initially applied versus how many got interview invitations?
