suspended for signing an 8pm med on MAR at 5pm in error
Thank You. No I don't mind you asking what the med was at all. It was Reglan 10mg. The copies of 3 MAR's that I was shown were very poor copies and I could tell that the initials definiately did not look like mine because I always use a dark ink gel pen and when I questioned the Administator ( who has a degree in business only no nursing background whatsoever) and the Unit Manager( a LPN with 1 years experience) and the QA Director who is also the wound consultant they got very defensive that I was making accusations. My personal opinion is I made the QA Director mad the evening before because under the direction of my 3-11 supervisor I was directed to call the MD also the medical Director to let him know of a change in a resident's status and to get an order to send this resident to the ER for evaluation. During my conversation with him he was relaying info to the QA Director ( an LPN also ) at approx. 8pm. I could here her in the background very clearly. She has numerous times returned the MD's pages. I apparentently interupped something between them of course not on purpose. Still this is no reason for termination and the wtrite up was so vague that I was sure to write my comments on it in my defense since I did no wrong. I also Questioned why was an incident report not written and why the MD was not called and the family if they suspected a med was given at the wrong time. The Administator replied because they had no proof that an error occured. I am better off believe me. I am a Good Nurse and I believe my Patients and their Rights come first before anything else. I would fight it but since it will not go on my Nursing Record which is spotless and I don't want my job back to work with crooked people there is really no need to fight it. I will get a new job no doubt about that and I figure they will all have to answer to God some day for their actions so I will leave it in his hands where it belongs.

Thank You. I agree that all Nurses need to stand together and maybe health care would change for the better. You and your family are also in my prayers.

:) I want to update everyone that replied to my post. I called my employment and demanded a meeting with the Administator, QA Director, and my Unit Manager to plead my case. First let me tell you I called my Ex- Husband who is a Deputy Sheriff and a very strong Christian man to go with me. We walked in the facility and the Administator stated is he with you. I replied "yes he is with me". The Administator then stated are you sure you want " The Sheriff in here with you?" I stated "yes he is my legal representative". Of course they didn't know that he is my Ex- Husband and since I had remarried in 2001 the QA Director would be the only one that might remember his last name was my last name when I was hired in 2001. By the way I did have the whole meeting on tape since a magistrate told me it was legal as long as I knew I was taping it. The tape didn't turn out the greatest but it is evidence against them. Well anyways they fired me before I could say anything. The QA Director had the write up in her hand before she came into the meeting and before she knew that "a Deputy Sheriff was with me". My EX demanded to see all the evidence against me and basically read them the riot act. They stated due to "Hippa regulations they couldn't show me the evidence". Well I told them I would have it subpoenaed from them and they handed over the evidence against me. I pointed out it did not look like my initials and they got real defensive and I pointed out the many holes from other nurses not signing and asked what was the difference. The Administrator stated " Oh we plan on having an inservice on filling in the holes on the MAR's. The Administrator stated that he was sorry to have to " fire such a good nurse that has such a good repore with the resident's and their families". He also stated that he could not turn it over to th BON because they could not prove that the meds were given and that any error really occurred". I should have known something was up when the unit manager stated to me that a random MAR check was going to be done and He had My MAR and was writing in it and I asked him what he was doing and he stated " Just checking out an order". I called another nurse an RN who works night shift and told her I was going to the meeting and planned on resigning to protect my license and she stated " No you let them fire you first because I know you did nothing wrong". She stated you call me when you get there and I will pray for you and will keep you in prayer until you call me back with the results. This Nurse prayed for a good hour or more until I called her back. Let me tell you I felt such peace and the Lord was really with me because I gave them all a hug and Thanked them for their time and the pleasure to have such a learning experience as this and that I would keep them in my prayers. I basically thanked them for firing me and made sure that I would be eligible for unemployment and demanded an exit interview with the Administator. I did put on the write up that I did not give any 8pm meds at 5pm on then 9th. The write only contained " Violation of company policy" " Immediate Termination". Since the new company took over July 1st 2004 we have no policy books whatsoever on either unit because they haven't written them yet. That is illegal right there. The Administrator did say I would be paid in full for yesterday and that I could also use my sick time 5 hours and I could take my 9 hours of vacation time. So I will get a check for almost 90 hours for 7 & 1/4 days. I got that in writing by the way. He also stated that he would give me a good reference and I would have no problem getting another job. I told him that I would trust in the Lord for that and that he would keep his word on the reference part. He also stated to stay in touch and let him know how I am doing. I don't know about that but I do know I will prosper in all that I do and will be an asset to another company that will appreciate their nurses. One of my resident's sons called me and stated that he would go in and speak on my defence if needed and that one of the CNA's told him that I was fired yesterday. I may never know why I was set up but I'm not upset about it because who would want to stay with a shady company. I do get to keep my health benefits until the end of December which I need because of the accident I was in on my way to work in January but my injuries are not work related and the company doesn't have to pay for any of that. That is a whole other story though. Once again Thank You to all of the " kind Healthcare Professionals" that have reponded to my post. I will keep all of you in my prayers daily and pray that you prosper in all that you do and will be blessed for the work you do and the kindness that you show to others. I felt soooo good to treat them with Love and Kindness. I'm sure they wanted me to be angry but I would never give them that satifaction. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God - Matt. 5:8 Thank You and Love to ALL.

Thank You LPN1974. I truly appreciate your prayers and will keep you informed of the outcome. I was working 11-7 shift which I loved until January of this year. I was driving to work and a man hit me at over a 100mph and he went home without stopping. He totaled my truck broke my drivers seat from the impact and I hung in there until May when due to health conditions had to take medical leave. Well to make a long story short the company was sold I had to return to work for my health insurance benefits and had no choice but to accept the open 3-11 position. I had left 3-11 shift before due to this QA director and how she treats people. It doesn't help that she married & is involved in a relationship with the Medical director who is also married. I have come to the decision that I would rather lose my health benefits than my nursing license. I truly love my patients and enjoy taking care of them but I think after this is resolved I really need to look for another job. Thank you again for your prayers.

suspended for signing an 8pm med on MAR at 5pm in error
Hi this is my first time ever posting on a nursing forum. I was called to the DON office at 5:30pm tonight by the QA director and she suspended me for accidently signing in error an 8pm medication at 5pm. I did not give the 8pm med and didn't realize the error. I was told to clock out and go home. I was allowed to write a statement in my defence. One hour prior to this my unit manager came to me ( He is an LPN with 1 year exp. I have 7 years exp.) and stated that MAR's would be checked to see if meds were being signed off early. The QA pretty much runs the nursing home and I know I was set up because I was not allowed to see the error and the QA stated that the Pt was not able to tell her if she received her medication earlier than ordered. This pt is alert and oriented x3 and would know if she received a medication at the wrong time. The QA stated that the meds would be counted in the drawer ( we receive a 1 month supply for each resident ) and I told her to count them and do labs if she wanted because I was innocent. I have worked at this facility almost 4 years and never have been in trouble before. I would appreciate any advice on how to handle this. I have put this in God's hands. Please pray for me that this all turns out okay. Thank You.
