  1. Sure, this would be simpler & cheaper if we knew at the beginning nursing is what we wanted . I was 16 when I graduated from high school and was making college decisions. Sure , some people know at 16 what they want to do for their entire lives , but most of us don't . Nursing is a great career for people with varied backgrounds, and I, with my bachelors in education , see many different paths I can go down with my nursing degree added to the mix.
  2. Hey all !!! Congrats on your acceptance into the MDC program ! I just completed the generic program in Homestead
  3. I have both, and Test Taking is a general overview of the types of questions, and ways to break down questions to discover what is actually being asked. Fundamentals is specific to the class. If you struggle with tests, or haven't started the program yet, I would highly recommend Test taking. Once you're in the program, I would think the specific course books will be more helpful. The Fundamentals one really helped me on our last test (I only missed 2 questions).
  4. You can probably pull the classes up by number (nur1060, etc) on the registration page. It should give you an idea of what's open for next semester.
  5. We were able to register before orientation. Whenever your program changes from preselect to nursing, you can register. For this semester, it was a week or so before orientation.
  6. Congrats on the acceptances everyone! I'm a first semester generic FTer in Homestead. As for uniforms- you have green top and pants for class, and a white top with green pants for clinical. Good luck, and enjoy these last couple of months before school :)
  7. The NurseLogic ATI is not at all what I expected. Some of these things seem like things we should be learning in school, not stuff we should already know. Besides that and Achieve, is there anything else we need completed? I feel like I'm forgetting something.
  8. Do we need an appointment to do the achieve module, or can you walk in anytime?
  9. They give us a printout of results right?
  10. Ugh. Yadi- thanks for the info!! Looks like I'm headed to medical next week.
  11. I finished the readings for the 2 classes already. That fundamentals book takes a while to get through, and it's annoying because the print goes so close to the middle where the binding is.
  12. No yadi. Haven't even tried. Wonder what the hold-up is......
  13. And after searching online, you can purchase the Lane cheaper at some sites than at the uniform shop, just fyi :)
  14. I got the Lane Professional Deluxe Cardioclinical stethoscope. Found it at the uniform shop on US 1 in Homestead. Great price, and MDC students get a discount there.
  15. The bookstore let me try them on. I had to leave my ID, but was able to go to a bathroom in the building.
  16. What test success book? Looks like the Homestead people didn't get the email either....
  17. They didn't seem to really mention the lab coat for us Homestead people.....
  18. As for shoes, if I remember right, the main thing we were told was that they couldn't be backless or Crocs, and should be easy to clean (meaning leather preferred over cloth, etc.).
  19. I bought mine at Skechers. They have a bunch of all white sneakers, to include several in a "work" line. You can check them out on the website, but I found the stores to have them cheaper. The new one on SW 184 St and US1 is nice, and I know there are several others in the county.
  20. A little annoyed I wasn't told about it while up at the bookstore. Wonder if they can send it to me or if I'm going to have to drive all the way back up there. Do you remember how much it was?
  21. Quick question -- what, specifically, is the "nursing pack" that we're supposed to purchase at the bookstore?
  22. I took A&P 1 & 2 (and both labs), and microbio all at Miami Dade this past semester. It's unusual for them to allow it, but it never hurts to ask. Good luck!
  23. Contact the SF workforce about the requirements for the grant. I know there are income and/or employment criteria. I lost my job and am not eligible until actively drawing unemployment, which is hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
