I have been where you are. I did not find my classes difficult at all. I had much more time to focus on just my nursing classes than my fellow students. I truly believe that getting all other classes out of the way first is the way to go!

I would e-mail this to the instructor of the course. He/she will know if it is an acceptable substitution.

I would report it for sure. I would also quit working there. I would never want to be associated with a facility that treats patients in the manner you have described.

I did refuse an order while in clinicals my very first semester. The patient was a sweet 90+ lady who was getting extended release morphine. Crushed. I refused to crush the med. The nurse was annoyed when I explained to her that I would not crush this medication and why I would not do it. My instructor stood behind me and told the nurse if she thought it was safe to give the med that way then she should do it herself. The nurse did give the med, but by noon speech therapy was there to do a swallow study to see if it was safe to give the patient pills or if she needed to be changed to liquids. It felt great to advocate for my patient and even better that my instructor stood up for me!

I just took my RN-NCLEX on Friday. It shut off after 75 questions and it took me 1 hour. I just got my quick results this morning. I PASSED!!!!

Congratulations on getting in! I just graduated and I think the one thing a lot of my classmates struggled with was drugs. It was easy for me because I was a pharmacy tech before. If you just get a drug guide and start learning different drugs, uses, doses. I think that will make life easier! Good luck to you!!

This may sound crazy, but I just graduated also and I will be working in the state prison. You might want to check out the prisons and jails. They tend to have a harder time finding nurses. I have worked in the prison before as a pharmacy tech. It is not as scary as you may think!
