  1. Could someone please clarify the process in looking into your immunizations? Measles, mumps, rubella, TB, hep B, etc. I am sure I have had most of these done, but have no idea how to look up the records. I asked my mom, but she doesn't know either...
  2. Hi everyone! I recently received acceptance into the University of the Fraser Valley's RN Program. I was very excited and ready to accept their offer, as I have been applying to multiple universities for a few years, until I got another acceptance letter from Douglas College. I was just wondering if anyone who has had some experience with either program could offer some insight? I live in Surrey, so I will have a longer drive to UFV. I don't really mind that, as the drive doesn't really factor into my decision. I also like the fact that UFV offers a fast track program, giving me an opportunity to complete in 3 years vs 4 years at Douglas. If you are a current student or graduate, could you please post what is to expect with either program? What are the courses/professors like? Would you recommend the school? What are the clinicals like? And most importantly, what is the reputation after graduating? I(Do you find that hospitals, etc. are more likely to hire based on the school you graduate from?) Any insight is appreciated, as I only have a few weeks to make my final decision. Thank you!
  3. I don't think stats would help..when I had my interview she said they don't look at the actual courses you have taken, just the fact that you have some post secondary is a bonus. People don't have to take provincials anymore??!! What!!!! No fair! In other news, I also got an acceptance letter from Douglas today! Now to decide which school...definitely leaning towards UFV, especially if I can fast track!
  4. Pulmonary, so sorry to hear that you did not get in, I am familiar with that feeling! Given your credentials, it is suprising to ear that you were not accepted! I agree with onair though, perhaps the mark requirements for this intake were relatively high? It seems like a lot of the people on this forum who have been accepted have been saying they had very high gpa's. Also, where did you volunteer? I know that they like to have the volunteer work to be health-related. Personally, I had a 4.0 GPA for the requirements, and 3 yr post secondary science courses. I also had over 150 hours at a physio clinic, as well as 1 year full time work at a pharmacy office. My interview went very well, and I feel the essay component was pretty good too.Best advice is to not give up!!!! Good luck! Ps, if you are desperate to get in, consider applying to College of the Rockies. They keep a wait list as long as you meet the requirements. I was actually accepted there too and had a position for September, but obviously would prefer not to move!
  5. My last name starts with an M as well. Also, I was thinking the same thing about trying to figure out who is who come September...I did join the group on the popular social network site that everyone is familiar with...UFV Nursing 2012. Maybe everyone who has been accepted on here should also join that and then we can post our usernames!
  6. I believe that means that you are accepted provided you pay your fees on time, get your immunizations, etc! So congratulations!!!! Mine also says accepted conditionally!!!!!! Good luck to all! Very nervewracking to click on the link when it showed Fall 2012!!
  7. Well, nothing online early this morning! Fingers crossed some news comes today, I really don't think I can stand another weekend of not knowing!
  8. Oh, actually I think I see what happened...the category the application is under has changed from "Applications in progress" to "processed applications." I guess this means it is being finalized?!?
  9. Website is working fine for me...maybe I'm crazy, but I thought that before the link to the summary page of my application said "Admission Application." It now says "Continuous Application." I am over thinking/worrying that this changed and means something new...can anyone confirm or check what their link says? The status is still "ready for review by program..."
  10. I vaguely remember them saying something about May the 4th. Maybe that is the last day we are to receive our letters by? Obsessively checking the website as well. Good luck everyone. I'm so nervous!!!!
  11. Congrats on the job! That's awesome. :yelclap::w00t: I'm going CRAZY waiting for the letter/website update from UFV!!!!!!!!!! :no:This is going to be a VERY LONG MONTH!!!! Happy Easter everyone!
  12. mission1234: UFV is definitely my #1 choice for schools. They have the best reputation from what I've heard. My interviewer even told me a story where 4 students from UFV received 5 full time positions that were available directly after their preceptorship at SMH. That was out of all the students from Kwantlen/Douglas/BCIT/etc vs 4 students from UFV. I tried the "eggs in one basket" approach too many times...unfortunately with schools who use lottery systems. I guess I was naive and figured I would get in immediately...2 years later I finally applied EVERYWHERE (including schools up north and on the island) to better my chances. Sounds like you will be okay though, based on your responses above! I'm trying to not hold my breath as well, nothing is official until May! invictus: My group at the information session on the 15th asked how many complete applicants there were. I think she said that there were 172 complete files, but that number usually drops down to around 150 after people change their mind or get into other schools. She then said that that number includes the people who don't even get interviews as well, so overall odds are pretty good! 1/3 out of all applicants...not too bad. Wish I had realized this 2 years ago!
  13. Hi everyone! I had my interview last Friday morning. I also don't remember the lady's name, but she was super nice as well. I originally was pretty nervous, but even the written portion during the information session calmed my nerves. It was nice hearing that people with the best chances had already been selected for interviews. (I kind of figured that interviews would be decided AFTER the information session...so receiving an early interview letter was a nice surprise!) Also, I thought there would be waaaay more applicants, as applicants for programs at other schools can sometimes range in the thousands..so I thought that hearing there are only 170 complete applications was definitely a bonus. Anyways, the interview went great. I left it feeling really confident about my chances. When my interview ended, she said she "looked forward to seeing me in September." I told her that I hoped this would be the case, and this is when she went over my application summary with me. I had the maximum amount of point for marks (4.0 GPA), maximum amount of points for volunteer hours (recorded 120 hours from work at a Physiotherapy clinic + a number of volunteer hours for time at a youth group for brain injured teens), and she said that my interview was perfect. I hope it's true that we also get bonus points for having post secondary experience, as I have 3 years of sciences at SFU. She got excited when she saw this and started looking through my transcripts at transferable courses right away, and told me I should think about talking to an advisor about transferring as many credits over as I can. She also liked that I have work experience as a Patient Care Specialist at an online pharmacy. She finished the interview by asking me if I'd applied at any other schools. When I told her I had, she said she only hoped that I would choose to study there, as she felt I would make an excellent representative for the school. She also told me that "when I get my application letter" in the mail that I should make sure I read the pamphlet that's included, as apparently it has information on an assignment coming up in September. Is anyone else in the Surrey area? It took me about 45 minutes to get to the school, which isn't that bad considering that there is no stop and go traffic! I just found this forum today, but I think it's a great way to get to know other potential students! I'm starting to get really excited, but am trying to stay calm until I actually receive official confirmation in May! Good luck to everyone!!
