How would you feel?
thank you!! i did contact the manager to apply for the official position. if they had intended the position for nights maybe they could have contacted me to tell me so, youre exactly right. then i would have turned it down. im in the unit filling the undesired evening shifts. we actually have more nurses willing to work nights than evenings in our unit. i never used to mind working med/surg, but now i feel like a fish out of water. and recently theyve been putting me on peds with absolutely no orientation because "i am a float nurse." i just want an ob position so they stop using me inappropriately I dont complain at work. I did the right thing and applied for the shift per protocol. some feedback would have been nice. is this union rep worthy or will it get me in more trouble?

so youre basically saying u cant see my point what so ever because you did overnights for awhile. ive done overnights. i didnt find it neccesary to post that i was doing overnight when my husband left me and my two small children......excuse me for not "figuring out my child care issue". maybe you can find me an overnight daycare. im not the only nurse at my hospital that doesnt do nights and i didnt know that not working nights gives all of you the right to bash on me. if the hospital was looking for someone for just nights then they should have posted it that way. we are contracted and in our contracts it states that when applying to specialize the position will be given based on seniority. there are no interviews. when the 12 hour positions were posted i didnt apply even though i was next in line because i couldnt do them, but this position was for 8 hour shifts, no other specifications. i was asked to do straight evenings on ob, i am doing what they asked me to do, the only difference is i dont have an actual position. so youre telliing me this wouldnt upset u in the least? if you gave up your day shifts and filled their pm shifts and then watched them hand a position to a nurse with much less qualifications you wouldnt mind? wow.....im the bad guy and you were the one judging me cause you thought ive never done overnights.....

they dont hold interviews and according to contract they are suppose to give these "positions" by seniority. the only reason they post them is because some people dont want them. if they were looking for nights they normally specify.....which they should have instead of breaking contract. i havent said a word at work because i dont complain, i work my ass off and just wanted to let off a little steam here. you cant tell me it would be hard for you to see someone with less qualifications got a job over you. if they were looking for night staff they should have posted it as night staff. i dont think everyone with less seniority than me is inferior, this nurse seriously has an attitude problem and has been talked to many times. i have quietly listen to other nurses and patients complain and done the adult thing and just stay out of it. i guess i wanted to vent on here amongst anonymous peers and i still get my head bit off. its really stupid where i work, but when applying to specialize in a certain area, we do not interview. its honestly suppose to be next in line. i have never applied for a position that i can not handle, for example i did not apply for the nights position. as ive replied to many others, i am not the only nurse that does not do nights. i was asked to do straight pm shift for ob because that is where the need is......yet they will not give me an official position which means i still have tofloat to floors that i rarely work......not to fair to my patients agreed? dont get me wrong, i try my hardest, but they deserve someone with more experience on those floors. so basically im working what they asked me to yet i dont get the title and still have those float days. you wouldnt be the slightest bit upset??

fyi i havent said a word about it at work. i dont complain at work, i go and do my job. the dr i refered to in my post asked me if i applied for the position and what was going on. if youre assuming im on here lying then why take the time to comment on my post??

How would you feel?
sigh no one has really given any advice but just jumped all over me. i admit i accidently left out the part that the posting was not for 12 hours or for night shift....but still....i keep trying to correct that part of the post and yet no one is listening. you truely wouldnt be frustrated with your job if someone else got a position you've worked very hard for and there was no reason for it? honestly? I didn't apply for something that didnt fit my lifestyle so please stop suggesting i did.

How would you feel?
see this is why im upset. she really truely refuses all this stuff. she has been arguing and in the don's office on a regular basis throwing a fit because she wants an ob position. im upset because i keep my mouth shut at work and behave like an adult. she whines like a child and gets the position?? thats really all i can think of. the posted position was for 8 hour shifts and not posted as a nights spot. im really not trying to be difficult....just truely frustrated.

im sorry, totally my fault. i was completely unclear and am now getting repeatedly attacked lol. ok. when they posted 12 hour shifts i did not apply because it did not fit my life style. the last posting was for 8 hours, no other specifications. Im not the only nurse that doesnt work night shift. i actually recently gave up my dayshifts when they asked me to work straight pms because that was where the ob need is. i feel like ive bent over backwards for them, but when the position was posted they gave it to someone with less experience and I dont understand why. the only thing i can think of is that its because she works straight nights, but then they should have posted the position as nights....right? my posting earlier was unclear and i seen that once i read it. now i sit here and cry cause im getting so many rude comments when all i wanted was an opinion on if i should talk to the don and ask why i can not have an ob position.

How would you feel?
lol yes im sorry i was unclear the 1st time. i originally didnt apply for an ob position because they were listed as 12 hours which i wasnt available for. they are now listed as 8 hour shifts. there was no specifications that they were for night shifts. i applied and another nurse with less seniority and experience got the position. I'm not the only nurse on our unit that doesnt do overnights, there are people with ob positions that do not do overnights. i gave up my day shifts because they needed someone to fill strictly pm shifts, 2 months later they posted ob positions and they were not offered to me and I cant figure out why.

i wish i could edit my original post lol. the last posting was not for 12s, it was for an 8 hour position. it was not specified as a night shift position. of course my children are my priority and when they have posted positions before i have not applied if they dont fit my schedule. also im not the only nurse there that doesnt work nights or 12s. we have a bit of everything at our hospital. i am not being unreasonable or impossible. i really am just hurt that they gave it to someone else just because she complains all the time.

there was no specifications on the 8 hour posting.....it wasnt for nights. if it was for nights they should have posted it as a night position. she refuses to work days and pm shifts. i am unavailable for nights right now. it wasnt specified as a night position there for according to our contracts they are suppose to offer positions per seniority. thats why im upset. ive bent over backwards for that place, the only thing i cant and have never been able to do is overnights. maybe when the kids are older. but do you get where im comming from? the shift wasnt posted as straight nights so that shouldnt have actually affected my chances (according to our contracts) Im not really trying to be a brat, but it is very frustrating to watch others get positions when they have way less seniority. there are other nurses who dont do night shift, im not the only one. there are some that work 12s, some that work 8s straight day, straight pm, rotating. we do all kinds of stuff, im not the only one there and its not like im "being difficult" by not working nights. seriously, im only upset because they had no actual reason to chose her over me except the fact that #1 shes been complaining in their offices daily and #2 she will only do night shift. i get they need help for nights, but im mostly scheduled pm on ob anyway, the only thing that would change is i wouldnt have to go to med floor occasionally. its overwhelming when you dont feel comfortable on a floor and have to take a full assignment when you are only there once every 3-4 months maybe. Again, im not trying to be difficult, but ive been next in line for that position and have not applied when it didnt fit my schedule. this one could have fit my schedule.

the posting was for 8 hour shifts no other specifications. not all ob positions are for 12 hours or overnights. there are ob nurses with just days, just evenings, just overnights and then theres a group with 12s. so whats the problem?? the problem is someone else got the position with way less experience just because she is constantly in the office yelling and complaining and just because she will fill the shifts with her straight over nights. you're telling me if they gave the position to someone with less experience, whom the other nurses dont like or trust because she doesnt do her job and constantly runs to the boss, you wouldnt be upset??

How would you feel?
i should have specified that the posting was not for 12 hour but 8s and no other specifications. i was just making the comment that yes i am unavailable for nights but she refuses to work days or pm shifts. i told the dr to not say anything, and actually shes the one who brought it up to me.

How would you feel?
the last shift posted was for 8 hours not 12, no other specifications. so youre telling me you wouldnt be upset that someone else got it because she is constantly going to the don whining and complaining so they just wanted to shut her up.
-
How would you feel?
she actually refused to go to csections. the shift they posted recently was not for 12 hour nights, it was an 8 hour position with no other specifications. so your telling me you wouldnt be upset that they gave it to someone who has argued with both charge nurses and supervisors when she doesnt get her way? and the only reason she got it is because she is in the office complaining every day?! im not the only one who doesnt do night shift. wow thanks for the support.....you can believe what you want, but if you dont believe me then dont bother commenting on my post

the last shifts posted were not 12 hour, guess i should have specified
