  1. Thank you so much for your great advice Christin! I will try that. A transfer may be the best way to try. I am just waiting for an opening now.
  2. Hi Everyone, I am currently working as an RN on a rehab unit in a local hospital. Although I love my job, my heart is set on working as an oncology nurse. The truth is that that oncology/hematology was my main reason to pursue nursing. I had a personal experience at a very young age where I was a recipient of a BMT. Ever since then, even after graduating with a bachelor's in biology, i wanted to change my career and get more involved in healthcare and being able to contribute to society. I am currently enrolled in a BSN program, so my options will broaden. Meanwhile, I want to get some experience with infusion and become chemo certified. Does anyone have any advice on how I could do something like that?

  4. Yes the whole no I in team was kind of cliche. Secondly it madethe other candidate stand out over me which didn't feel that great:( buy this is a learning experience and I know I will be more confident for next time.
  5. So I had my first interview and the nurse manager caught me off guard and said she likes her interviews very informal. So all those though questions that I practiced were fumbled. I felt so terrible. Some tricky questions that I was asked were; 1. Have you applied to other places. 2. What's a team to you? ( I said its all collaboration etc) but she said someone said there is no I in team, a person stated this to her and it stuck with her. 3.what else do you like to do in your free time? How would you have answered these questions ???
  6. Hi JerseyGirl73, I actually applied to their positions online recently. I decided to make a packet including my resume, degrees, letter of recommendation. I actually want to drop it of so i can make a personal attempt. Do you think I should give it to the hospital or to meridian health center talent search office?
  7. That's an excellent point, i will start exploring.
  8. Thank you so much for the advice. Maybe HR just moves slow! I don't know. I am a new grad and a lot of these places are asking for 1 -2 years of experience. I want to work in acute care so i can have the most exposure and learn. If i start out with rehab then i heard that you kind of get stuck there. Is that true?
  9. I recently applied for a job at a nearby hospital with a employee referral. I got an email from HR, saying that they are currently reviewing my resume. Meanwhile, the person I know said they would call me soon. But its been a few days and no call. Should I be worried.
  10. Yes, internships are available but they only accept 1 or 2 people a year and they have hundreds of applicants. I might look into per diem also. Also does anyone know a nursing recruiting company?
  11. Hey everyone, I passed my NCLEX a week ago. I called the state board of nursing (NJ) regarding the licence. They had told me to check back 10-15 days... 1) I'm wondering how long it took for others to get their licence in the mail. 2)Also, I notice that all jobs require 1-2 years of experience. Where should I try as a new nurse? 3) There are a lot of contract companies that help you get a job. But I'm assuming you are an employee of of the contracting company and they take a cut of your salary right?
  12. Yes, you're right it wasn't bad. I realized that if your getting trickier questions, that means you're probably doing well in the exam. So i took those questions positively. And I really think that all the NCLEX prep books really know how to focus on the important points. I felt that a lot of the questions were things that were really drilled during nursing school and in practice questions too.
  13. I took the nclex this morning. You guys were right, i really did a lot of questions! But i hope it was all worth it. I didn't do much the last 2 days before the test, I felt like I had drained all of my resources. So I just took it easy. Couldn't sleep the night before and had a crazy adrenaline rush before the exam. So anyways, the computer stopped at 75 questions. I was out in about 1 hour and 15 mins. Tried the PVT and got the good pop up. I will definitely pay for the quick results in two days and keep you guys posted:)
  14. So i finished Kaplan Question Trainer #4 yesterday and got a 69%. I started QTrainer #5 today and was feeling drained. I got these questions after doing all of my prep from other resources. So the kaplan trainers were just to keep me practicing for the last week prior to my NCLEX. But I seriously think I am overworking myself at this point. I have 3 more days and i don't think I will be able to learn anything new. The anxiety is starting to set in!!! But I think instead of doing the remaining 150, 200, and 265 question set. I will do 50-75 from each set...so I don't get fried before the test. What do you guys think?
  15. Thank you guys for the motivation and advice. I will continue to do questions till a day before to keep the momentum going. And try to do some review...will let you know how it turns out next week.
