  1. Hi Kaay, Where did you get the immunization review? Is that the official form or just the list of what we need? About the HGMT 7180 if you haven't taken it yet you will need to take it eventually. If you check the course on the BCIT website you can find the prerequisites needed (you either need be in a program already or have work experience in a hospital setting). I wasn't sure about my experience so I sent an e-mail to the instructor who let me join the course. It was really challenging and interesting! There was a lot of reading to do but there were good online discussions on the Canadian Health Care System and other similar systems in the world.
  2. Hi Kaay, I read your post and here are somethings that I have had to do. I will also be starting with you in August and I think we have to wait for a package to arrive in the mail with our Criminal Record check as well as our immunization records. I was not sure where my stuff was either so I ended up going to my family doctor to get blood work done (if you don't have a family doctor I think a clinic would do as well). Most of the things they check for can be done through blood work, however the only exception is a TB test. This is done through the Centre for Disease Control, their office is located near City Centre/ City Hall in Vancouver. I am not sure if you need to have a referral but essentially they give you a skin test. They apply some solution on your arm and check for a reaction, which takes 4 days. If you are found to have TB then you have to get an X-ray to see if it has spread to your lungs, this also takes time for the results. If you can I recommend checking up on TB first and also stopping by your doctors office for a refferal to a lab for blood/ urine testing. Hope this helps. FOR EVERYONE ELSE STILL WAITING TO GET IN GOOD LUCK!!:yelclap:
  3. Oh! Sorry about that I forgot about the conditions. Statement retracted. Yohane.
  4. Hi Vana, If you go back one page to page 4 there is a post I have directed to Jadebl, there I have written all my educational background if you want to take a look. Hang in there.
  5. nurs9, No problem if I can answer your questions I am more than happy to. This was my third attempt to enter into the program. The first time I had none of the Libs courses, english, Health Management, so I was rejected. The second time I had more courses under my belt, so I got to the point where I was shortlisted and then put on a wait list (the wait list is if a seat opens up, if you are first on the wait list you get the seat). I did not get into the Jan 2012 intake, however because I was shortlisted I sent my letter of intent as well as my two references. For the aug intake the Nursing department told me that since I got to a good level they would cover my application fee, and that I would not have to sbumit my information again as it is on file. When I reapplied I made sure to inform the Nursing department that I was taking courses in the semester. Also during the process I updated my grades via e-mail to ensure that they knew I will be passing them at least. If you have any other questions let me know. =)
  6. Hi Smiley65, Great work balancing school, work and kid!! I also wanted to thank you for always participating the posts. Last time for the Jan 2012 intake I often read your thread and it was interesting. But at that time I did not participate in the discussion but instead was a voyeur. This time I am more active and find it interesting and mutually beneficial. I found out today that I can start Nursing at BCIT in Aug. I was wondering if you would be interested in selling me the texts you will not need for level 2. I don't worry about the condition of the book as long as you it wil get me through the term.
  7. Hi nurs9. Since applying for the August intake I was not told that I was shortlisted. Since my original application the only communication I received was that I was provisionally accepted. I originally thought that people who were provisinally accepted would have been contacted earlier on, so I am not sure of the process. Hope that helps.
  8. I got provisional acceptance today from BCIT! Dmak26 thanks for the encouragement. (I don't know about the whole alphabetical order thing because my last name starts with F). I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for you guys. =) Pippa20: You can take HGMT 7180 before you get into nursing. I am taking it this semester. You have to meet one of the two prerequisites: 1. having a degree, 4 years formal education at post secondary or 2+ years experience working in healthcare setting. If you get the chance I recommend taking it when you can. It is a really interesting course and there is a lot to read. My class had 11 people, but in one week we had 121 posts online!
  9. Hey Pippa, Yeah I am still waiting too. Trying to stay positive but am now considering plan B.... as soon as I know what that is. =) dmak26, Good luck in your application. I checked the site a few years ago, to enter into Nursing at UBC do you already have to have you Bachelor of Science?
  10. Hi, Welcome Chango! Yes I they do let you know if you don't get in. They send an e-mail to your MyBCIT, and from there we can follow up and find out how to be more competitive the next time around. I hope we don't have to wait again! Hey Jadebl, I wanted to ask you what credentials you have if it is alright. As for me I have all the basic prerequisites, 55 post secondary credits (not so great GPA), Psychology 1 & 2, Libs 7001, Libs 7002. Since January I have been taking Libs 7010, Libs 7031, Engl 1177 and HGMT 7180 (Health Management). I have also been working as an aide at Women's Hospital for close to two years. I was shortlisted and then waitlisted for the Jan 2012 intake but didn't get in. I have read that some people have taken physiology and anatomy, where are people taking it? Is the credit transferable? I would like to take it at BCIT, but the course is restricted to Nurisng students. Still keeping my fingers crossed, but I lovely weather is helping to keep me distracted. =)
  11. Hey dmak, Thanks nothings worse than feeling like you are in a boat by yourself.
  12. How do you guys know who your advisor is?
  13. Hi everyone, I didn't know there was this post too! I wanted to go back and touch on the original question of why BCIT. I am currently applying for the Aug 2012 intake, and it is my third attempt. I was offered a seat at Douglas College for Jan of this year, but turned them down due to the commute (coming off a graveyard shift I wouldn't make the first class for sure). I am taking Libs courses at BCIT and find the atmosphere challenging, and I like the variety of students as well. As someone mentioned every school would like to say that they have the best students, but a great student/ nurse comes down to a person's curiosity, personality and drive. That being said I also work at B.C. Women's hospital and some of the nurses who I highly respect are BCIT graduates, and there are some fabulous senior nurses who also teach the clinical aspect for BCIT at B.C. Women's. The competitive nature of the BCIT system is frustrating at times, but I feel it is a good way to find out how resolved people are in their choices. For Sourpickle93 (great name by the way!) I am not in the program yet, but I am taking Health Management 7180 in this winter semester. As long as you have at least 2 years experience in some kind of health care facility, and have permission from the instructor you are allowed to take it before getting into nursing. Cheers
  14. Hi everyone, Anyone hear anything this week? I'm still waiting for a response...Plan B?
  15. Hi Jadebl, I'm waiting too I'm trying to keep my mail checking to twice a day, but I broke that rule today. Trying to stay positive!
