  1. It's not about us. It's about the patients! Since we are being paid by Medicare and Medicaid according to how we perform and what are scores are compared nationally, we have to do everything we can to ensure the patients are satisfied. Our falls have decreased dramatically since we started hourly rounding and offering the 3 P's. Our HAPU have also decreased. If you think about it, we are in the room hourly anyway, why not make the best of it and be proactive instead of being reactive when the call lights go off. BTW, our calllight calls have decreased too since hourly rounding was put into place. Just my opinion...
  2. CPSI is the system we used and have used for many years. It is limited in what it can do. We have devised many work arounds. That being said, there are flaws with all electronic systems. It does take CPSI quite, quite, quite a while to make changes in things, even those that are requirements by Joint Commission and other governing bodies. It is what it is. Make the best of it because most companies will not change due to cost of getting another system. I wish we had another system but we don't so we are adjusting to life with less then optimal settings. I would like the system to do much more then it does. It is mainly used by smaller hospitals so I am guessing you are in a small facility. Most larger facilities go with Cerna or McKesson to name a few. Good luck...
  3. It is the nature of the beast. You are in healthcare. I have been nursing for 25 years and have yet to take something home to my family. As far as the C Diff you mentioned, if the patient was in isolation then isolation protocol was not followed by this nurse. If they are dressed out properly, this would not happen. If it is a patient not in isolation, then they should be. If unknown at admit, universal protocol of good handwashing with warm soap and water is necessary. Handwashing can solve alot of problems. If they were knowingly taking care of a patient with C Diff and not following protocol then they probably spread it to other patients as well as taking it home. C Diff can live for months. That is why the rooms are double cleaned with bleach after discharge or transfer.
