Hi and congrats on your interview! Where I work we primarily have burns and SCI pts. The interview was the general nursing questions (i.e. "Why did you want to be a nurse? Why do you want to work for our hospital? Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult pt/co-worker/MD/etc.," with a few specific clinical questions about cardiac and burns and PALS stuff) There are many threads on allnurses that have examples questions and online resources to help you prepare. Get to know your hospital- mission statement, values, etc. A lot of this info you can find online. Also, what I found helpful and you may feel silly doing it but it really will help is practice answering interview questions in a mirror or to a family member/friend who can help you. You will be surprised in the interview if those types of questions come up how much practicing helps. Just like in nursing school...practice, practice, practice! If you are a new grad play up on your strengths. Just because you may not have a lot of nursing experience doesn't mean you have nothing to offer, you still bring life experience and willingness to learn. You want to get into the PICU for a reason-why? And don't forget your journey to becoming a nurse and how hard you have worked to get where you are...congrats again best of luck to you!

Hello my fellow nurses, I just found out I will be starting a job in the PICU! I am SO excited, grateful, scared, anxious and ready! I have been following the PICU threads for awhile now and want to thank all of the nurses who have contributed. Especially as a new grad, I think allnurses provides a great place to find support and learn from more seasoned nurses. I know there are previous threads on what to expect as a PICU nurse, how to prepare as best as you can, etc. But I just want to say I'm extremely thrilled to report I am a PICU nurse now and hopefully I can bring my own contribution to the conversations here.
