Hello, I am completely bummed out! I just sent my application to the CA BON today only to find out about an oral communication class requirement! Is this really true? School has already started and so I will have to wait to register for a speech class in the summer. There has to be a way around this class. In nursing school, almost all of my classes required a presentation. That should count, right?! Lol. I am going to be stuck in Texas for another year if I have to take this class. Did anyone get a license without having taken this communication requirement. It wasn't a requirement for my school.

Thank you for all of your responses. I think I will start trying to get in touch with a nursing recruiter first. I have called and left messages, but no one has returned my call yet. My next door neighbor is a nurse and told me to email this particular director. She put in a good word for me. Well, a week later and I haven't heard back. Keeping my chin up.

Hello, I am a recent RN grad and became licensed July 15th. I have officially begun my job hunt! I've already applied to numerous online positions at local hospitals, but can't help to feel like my online application is being buried underneath a huge pile of other new RN grads. So my questions is, should I call the unit I am interested, ask for the nursing director, then ask if he/she has any positions available for a new grad? Is it appropriate to call the unit secretary and ask for the nursing director's e-mail so I can send a letter of interest? I'm definitely fine with being assertive in my job hunt, but I don't want my assertiveness to land me a DENIED stamp. Thanks in advance for any tips/suggestions!

Thanks for the replies! I think documentation is the big intervention here. I've heard some hospitals have a red flag system for the "frequent flyers". Hmm, not much interventions you can do because I agree, it's always more safe to treat the pain and that's up to the doc.

Hello! I am writing a critical thinking paper on drug seekers in the ED. Will any of you chime in on what nursing interventions you implement while providing care for this particular patient? I was thinking, detailed documentation and having the patient open their mouth to show the pill has been swallowed. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Awesome! Thank you so much for giving me direction. I just thought of a lot more questions I can also ask. The woman wasn't sure what floor I would be on because we didn't go into detail on the current level of schooling I'm in. I believe we are going to discuss that today. As of right now I'm okay with anything that is available because I don't have enough experience to know the difference. I think it is similar to how you are describing your job. I'll have to do some PCA work but I will also be assigned to a nurse at times. Thank you again!

Hello! I am currently a nursing student in an ADN program. Today I went to my first health care job fair in search of landing a nurse extern position at any local hospital. Well, I didn't get hired on the spot, but I do have two upcoming interviews. Each interview will be held in front of a panel called a peer review. I've been told this is where staff ask me questions and I also ask my share of questions. Anyway, I'm not quite sure what questions to ask. I have never worked in a health care setting before. I really want to become an extern so I can gain a better understanding of the hospital setting and also to practice clinical skills. My first interview is at a specialty heart hospital and the other is just a general hospital. I have visited each hospital's website so I can incorporate facts into my interview. Any suggestions on what type of questions I should be asking is greatly appreciated!! Thank You!

Oh great! I didn't realize the email was sent to your ACES email account. I never check that email until right now and it is full to the max! I wonder if it rejected any emails because it was full. Can you just call and ask admissions if you got in or not? That would be so much easier than just waiting around.

I am curious if I am applying to the program correctly. I go to the nursing website, click the application link, and it only takes me about 5 minutes to fill out. Is this what everyone else has done or am I missing an extra step? This is my second time applying and I have never received an email!
