Hello everyone, I need some good advice from nurses who have worked both ICU and ED. I am aware there are similiar topics that already exist, but I couldn't find a discussion specifically concerned with students. I must choose where I want to precept in the next couple weeks and I keep going back and fourth between ICU and ED. Where would I learn more as a student precepting in my last semester of nursing school? What area would make me a better rounded and more knowledgable nurse? I only had the opportunity to spend one day in the ED and it was kind of slow but I really liked the environment. I also thoroughly enjoyed my rotation through ICU. I must admit that I am nervous about precepting in the ED because of how fast paced it is. I hear there is little time for explanation and this worries me a little. I am told that the ED works much more as a team compared to other units, and this is very appealing to me. If you have any insight for me as to where I should choose it would be much appreciated!
