  1. The only person that I know that has gone through the program at vandy is a WHNP. She got hired on at Vanderbilt working in gyn-oncology. My friends that are RN's in middle TN told me that this is the specialty to go into. So fret not!
  2. Yes it is for financial aid.
  3. Can someone give me the numbers for credits? I was trying to fill out the form that you guys were discussing but I left my sheet at home. I would greatly appreciate your help!
  4. Well I am not sure if you are distance. I just remember a guy on the student panel last year at the open house changed from mental health to FNP. He said it was extremely nerve-wracking and he strongly advised against doing so. He only changed to FNP because there are more opportunities for loan repayment. He said he risked having to sit out a year. So I imagine he wasn't a distance student.
  5. I've heard it is pretty difficult. You have to basically reapply. Change your goal statement to incorporate the change and why you feel that you want that. You may also have to wait a year if a spot isn't available.
  6. What application? I feel like I missed something. I filled out the FASFA. What else were we supposed to fill out?
  7. Definitely! https://www.facebook.com/groups/245569158864261/ Let me know if it works!
  8. The group is a go! I started it and its called Vanderbilt School of Nursing- Accepted Fall 2012. I think you just request membership to join the group! :)
  9. It won't let me make a group without having friends to have in it.
  10. What should I title the Facebook group? Vanderbilt School of Nursing- Accepted Fall 2012?
  11. Does anyone know if there is an accepted students group yet? I know Duke created one on Facebook and Emory already had one.
  12. I haven't yet. I will though! So there is one spot off the list!!
  13. Completely understandable! I was willing to wait as well. I have been out of undergrad for about 4 years now, and I was jut not wanting to wait. I would have if I had to though. I applied to three schools (Emory/Duke/Vandy). I got waitlisted at Duke and got into the other two. I checked last years message board. You are right that people found out late in March. That was what had me worried! I didn't want to waste 250 dollars on holding a spot at Emory if I didn't need it! I'm sure that you will hear something soon! I think the FNP cohort is around 60 people. And based on how many people have posted on here...it looks like we need quite a few more for the group!
  14. @AnneP85 I just noticed you messaged me, but apparently it won't let me respond. I am new to this site really. I promise that waiting is all it is. I had to force myself to stay busy so I wouldn't even check this website haha. I was freaking out because if I didn't get into Vanderbilt, then I would be moving to Atlanta next month. Something that I definitely was not excited about.
  15. My friends that lived in Bellevue would take the bus in. It is free with your vanderbilt id. However, it was difficult to get the bus back home. It would sometimes be running behind etc. I wouldn't think it is that reliable. If you live close enough, you could bike to vanderbilt. A lot of graduate students do this.
  16. I went to the open house before. It has a lot for students just applying or thinking about applying. However, I think I am going to attend again. I have more questions that I want answered from the student panel. I also think it would be helpful to go to the financial aid portion and for the tour. They have 3 different time slots devoted to you learning about different specialties...which will be boring to sit through since I know I am FNP. I think the day consists of breakfast, welcome from the dean, then you split off by going to different classrooms to learn about different specialties, lunch combined with a student panel, then financial aid then the tour? I wish I could come for the second half of the day :) Thanks for the Congrats! I was so worried when I got home, but it turns out I was just being too hard on myself. After being waitlisted at Duke, I just got scared!
  17. I got my letter tonight!!! I am accepted into the FNP program. I am so excited! Patience is definitely key!
  18. The weather is pretty nice. I am biased coming from TN :). We had snow a lot last winter, but not so much this year. People cannot drive in the snow...that is the only bad thing. Also, my roommate had a lot of trouble with her sinuses. Vandy is an arboretum. So if you have seasonal allergies...it can cause sinus infections A LOT. I found out the hard way as did my roommate. In the summer, it can get pretty hot and humid. Other than that, the weather is pretty great!
  19. Maybe it also depends on how early you sent in your application. I sent mine in right at the deadline of December 1st...I am just trying to be hopeful. @mellzie22 At least you will find out soon about the Emory waitlist since the due date for a deposit is the 1st. I imagine that will shorten it quite a bit! Are you applying for FNP/prespecialty as well? In my opinion, Emory was much better than Duke. It was like 100k for an ABSN which I think is ridiculous. At the end of the Emory and Vandy program, at least you will have your MSN. I also thought the facility was better at Emory. Hopefully you will get good news soon! I am in the same boat wondering when my letter will come!
  20. I currently live in Nashville. Rent averages around 800+/month for a one bedroom near campus. If you want to live farther out, in the Bellvue area then rent will be cheaper, but you have to deal with the traffic involved in the commute which can make it take you 45 minutes to get to campus. I would suggest checking out all the neighborhoods before making any decisions. (12south/berry hill/sylvan park/east nashville/green hills) I lived in 12 South for 3 years renting a house for 1,495 (3 bedroom 2 bath). I also lived in sylvan heights which is 5 minutes from campus. (paid 1,200 for a 2 bedroom 2.5 bath--however this was a steal because they currently go for 1,450) My last roommate was from Seattle. She loves it here, but she also works in the music industry. The only thing that was hard for her to adjust to were the thunderstorms. The rain here is quite different from Seattle. Also, another person from Seattle didn't like that we didn't have a place that would sell good fish. (However, we are surrounded by states.... so it makes sense :) ) I currently am waiting on a letter. I am getting so worried as I still haven't heard anything. I got waitlisted at Duke today so I am not feeling the best. Vanderbilt is my number one choice because I really don't want to leave Nashville. I have to let Emory know by March 1st if I want to go there. So frustrating...
  21. Yeah, I checked last years group, and it appears that a majority of the letters came in the mail. I was just hoping to get an email today! I bet it was exciting to find it in the mail today though. Congrats!!
  22. I'm the same way! I keep checking my email, and I am freaking out!
  23. Has anyone from FNP heard or is it just CNM? I wonder if they are letting all the different groups know at different times?
  24. Now I feel like I am going to check my email like every five minutes....
