Think about Baylor again... did she tell you that the hospital has a week day crew and a weekend crew? I worked at Baylor WAY back there in the early 80's... actually I worked Mon/Tue/Wed 12 hour shifts.. had the rest of the days off.. loved it and Baylor is an excellant hospital ... very large. However, at that time I was not in the OR.... it was post=op. I have a traveler in my OR now from Baylor... she's a weekend OR manager there. She comes down here to the coast and works for me Tues,Wed,THur, FRid and goes home to work her weekend OR manager shift ( kid at Harvard).. I could ask her any questions you might have...I will ask her about the hours required to be considered full time...I'm curious...... anyway.. Baylor is great... Dallas is great.... I left to get married and have been down on the coast since... I still miss it....

My advice to you is to contiunue your nursing degree plan and upon graduation, start looking for an OR nurse internship program... most of these will be found in larger cities and in the teaching hospitals. I live close to the Houston area and have a RN friend who's daughter was just accepted into a program at a large teaching Hospital. THere are many more, however. Most are approx year long programs and are the very best way to learn. I am the operating room charge nurse in my local hospital... and was lucky enough to get in years ago and trained here. However, those chances are small as the turn over rate in smaller town OR's is not that great. Hopefully, you live in or close to a larger metropolitan area that can offer you the career path you want. Just prior to your graduation date, start actively looking, call the humane resource departments of as many teaching hospitals as possible. persistence pays off... trained OR murses are always in demand.... GOOD LUCK.

Most of the larger hospitals in the Dallas areas should offer some type of OR internship program .... you may have to wait until an opening comes up.. try Baylor and Parkland...these internships usually are about a year...my suggestion is to call as many in the Dallas area as possible... perisistence pays off... and you will never be sorry...... I've been in the OR for 15 years now.. and love it.. good luck from the Texas Coast
