  1. How about LVN- MSN? is that possible? I am an LVN taking classes for my ADN in CC. My Q is.. after Im done with ADN course can i sit-down to take NCLEX RN? Thanks for info!
  2. Good point. thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinion.
  3. YES! YES! YES! Ask questions. Even a small doubt that you have in your head go ahead and phone your office and ask about it. To be safe. I am a new grad in HH. I've done two boo-boos so far. The called me to see mrs. x and mrs.y in the following week. But when my weekly schedule came in the mailbox it was only mrs. x in there. So i went ahead and didn't see mrs. y since she was not on my weekly schedule that they made for me ( the care coordinator made it) SO i had a doubt why am I not seeing mrs. y and only mrs.x and they live in one facility. After 2 days of visits i finally decided to call and ask. Then I found out that I am suppose to see the two pts, and the coordinator said I already told you last week to see both, but I reasoned well she was not in my weekly schedule so I figured there were changes. and it gets really disappointing, I hate to disappoint people, but it was a misunderstanding and somehow it seems like it was my fault..I guess it is. So communicate with them! bug the crap out of them with your questions.. at least you are safe and they can't refuse to answer you.. or at least they shouldn't. Good luck!
  4. ADDITION. Today I had 1 blood draw. I am to take specimen to LAB. LAB didn't accept it bec the tube was expired. EXPIRED? I had no clue! I wish somebody would have told me (or maybe If was trained/oriented better). I had to drive about 15mi one way, plus drive to the lab about 15 miles again to bring the specimen just to be told do it again! I texted my DON, told her what happened and I was told that I'm suppose to check the tube. I've done few blood draws already since I started HH I seriously had no clue test tubes has expiration date. ( my fault?) I guess. If you are to tell a newgrad to do a procedure, should you tell her/him oh..uhm.. make sure you check your test tube if its expired. Or maybe you should include that in your 3-4 hrs of orientation since you know that there are some blood draws to be done? I really don't want to show attitude, but when your almost working for free you just want to reason out and defend yourself. But no, I stayed quiet. I guess this is how I learn.. by doing a lot of mistakes since I am not trained properly. I just hope I won't have major mistakes that will jeopardize my license.
  5. I live in Orange,CA. Got my license on May, been on the job hunt for 3 months with no glimpse of luck! Finally got hired in HH. Which is weird because I wasn't even interviewed. I was called calling one day and I bump into this small agency. Lady said come-over we need per diem bring you credentials. So I went in and handed over resume and other credentials. They gave me papers works to sign right away, and with some assessment exam.. TO TAKE HOME. After a day or two I went back to the office to hand all the paper works back. The "care coordinator" said to wait for the call. The following 24 hrs I got call for orientation. Everything happened too fast. I was a bit overwhelmed yet happy excited that I finally got a job. So,.. about 3-4 hrs of orientation. The DON just kind of explained the charting and a little bit of stuff. (imagine how much of stuff you can cover in 3-4hrs orienting 3 new grads) They required as to follow a nurse before taking patients. So the next day I followed a nurse who was leaving. She seen 2 patients both for blood draw. I did the 2nd draw for her. Then after that.. the next day, I was by myself. So I am perdiem and I see about 2-3 pts/day but not everyday. $20/visit NO MILEAGE. sometimes I have 3 pts for the whole week and thats about it. I drive up to 20miles for one pt. Sitting in traffic in a hot summer weather.. you have to use AC! I don't want to smell sweat when I'm taking pts VS. There is A LOT of driving, and in the most part, its the one that pulling me down. I love the aspect of HH because I love patient teaching above all. But I am starting to loose hope about this. My first paycheck was $20 for 3 days of driving. I have daycare. I wanted to cry looking at my paycheck. I don't think it even close to reimbursing myself for the gas and mileage that I spent seeing those patients. I've been in HH for exactly one month now. Im really hoping I could last a month more. My DON mentioned we will get $5 raise after 3 months which will make it $25/visit. Sorry for the long post. I just had to vent somehow. So my questions.. would any of you take $20/visit NO MILEAGE reimbursement? If you a new grad? I know that the economy is not at its best but I really feel like Im spending way too much time on this and I don't even break even with all the work I have to do. Not to mention the documentation part which is making stay up late at night trying to figure out what to write on my nurses note because I want to make sure I'm safe and I covered every detail. From the bottom of my heart.. thank you for reading my post. And I really appreciate some feedback.. and maybe some encouragement.. (sorry for any typo, I dont have time to proofread such long post) Im not an original English speaker BTW
  6. Thank you for your feedback. I hope to hear from others
  7. Hello guys, After obtaining my license last May I had been non-stop looking for job until now. I got hired in HH for $20/visit PD no reimbursement. Since I mostly do wound care in HH I am considering taking wound care certification. I've looked at few sites/location that are available here in Orange,CA. WCEI cost about $2000 which is way out of my budget. I found this site collegeltc.com who offers 2 days course for Skin, Wound, and Ostomy Certification Course SWOC for $499. I have been searching online for any reviews about this school and haven't found any. Can anybody please enlightened me about this course as to do they have to be accredited by someone/someplace to administer such course? And I heard that I have to take some kind of examination like a certification sorta like CNA certification to obtain wound care certification credential? and what is WCC and how does this differ to this course from collegeltc.com? Sorry for all the questions I just haven't gotten a clue how to obtain wound care certification and If I am going to the right place and not waste time and money that I already don't have. Thank you so very much and I appreciate you reading my post.
  8. New grad in Orange, CA got hired in home health (finally) $20/visit PD no mileage reimbursement! To all HH LVN out there is this normal? I need experience
  9. Hello, I was just browsing and I bumped into this post. I know it's been quiet a while, but how was your interview at kaiser went? I've been sending application to their website and all I get is a rejection letters :uhoh21:
  10. Thank you all for your replies. It certainly enlightened me. I thought I was just thinking too much of my ego but yes it was a bit of insult. I message the doctor and professionally declined her job offer. Then she replied saying If I ever changed my mind she would love to have me work in her office. Then I thought I would negotiate on the salary, so I asked for at least $15 and believe or not, she declined it saying she usually starts that low and then maybe go $12 after 2-3 months and up to $15. I think it's rather hilarious! Anyhow, I do agree that she is very unprofessional in so many ways. At the end of her email she said " but I will think about it". Well you know what? I have decided that I do not want to work with her even if she offers me $20/hr. Moving forward... But it was a great lesson.
  11. PS. I also had an interview 4 days ago at another doctors clinic and I think it went very well. They said they should make a decision by this week. I sent a THANK YOU email right after my interview and I expressed my interest on the job again and I think that job fits my interest and all. I also sent an application for an MA job in a busy clinic and I got an email today requesting for my contact number. So I think there is something out there really!
  12. Not really. I don't have any particular area that I have decided I want to specialized in. I just want a job anywhere I guess. But maybe not getting paid $10/hr Thank you for your insight.
  13. Hello my fellow nurse. I hope everyone is having luck with their job search. I know I'm not! So here's the story. A friend of mind who see's a psych doctor mentioned me to her and the doctor asked my friend to have me call her. So I did and she wants to drop by at her clinic. I arrived 20min. early and waited about 40min for the interview. She interviewed my while she was talking to the other two gentlemen who was also waiting for her to discuss about abilify. So it was like a conference/interview and she introduced me to these gentlemen as well and I have to act or pretend that I am listening to them while they explain to the doctor about the drugs. And when the speaker turn to other person the doctor would asked me questions. And so basically every questions that she asked me and told me about the job description was heard by at least 4 people. And I think the most embarrassing part was when she said the pays $10 per hour. When I first arrived at the clinic I introduced myself as a nurse to the staff and I looked as professional as I can be. And then there I was, in the middle of a conference offered a job for $10/hr. I was excited and all because at first she said "well this is a part-time job and you will mainly check pt's VS and report to me and write my prescriptions" and the mentioned that I can either work 2 full days 9-6 or work 4 half days and i can choose whatever day i want. oh, and another thing, she said that I will not actually hold a position as an LVN and all I will do is VS, answer phone calls and or other front desk clerical jobs, but she said mostly I will be her assistant. ( I think even clerks or receptionist or other UAP get paid way more than $10) Now, my dilemma. I have a 2 year old who goes to a preschool when of course I need to go work for her. $10 wouldn't even enough for one day at the pre-school? But the bright-side is, she works at St. Joseph hospital in Orange county (I am from Orang btw) so I think if I can work for her I can have her refer me to that hospital? if she even agree to do so? I feel like I have been insulted somehow and I just want to cry! But at the same time I think it's better than nothing? or at least this will get my feet wet? Please Please Please! I need somebody to tell me that there are jobs out there so I don't have to take a $10 job just to get my feet wet!
