1) Not sure about that. They have an RN to BSN but I don't believe they have an LPN to RN. 2) No matter how many prereqs you have GMC requires you to be a fulltime student during the RN program so the cost per year is $29k 3) You do not go onsite prior to the day. You meet your instructor as well as the 5-7 other students and the instructor will tell you who your patient is that day. It is up to you at that time to gather medical information and do your assessment. 4) There are tutors specifically for nursing. There are 9 right now and all of them are booked up...lol people grab them fast. However there are regular tutors and academic success classes to help you with test taking strategies, note taking, etc. 5) All nursing classes are in the auditorium style seating and they are typically full. Your labs for nursing are smaller, roughly 20-25 6) Julie will have to answer for you. I had to medically withdrawl from my nursing courses at ccp so they didn't transfer because I didn't complete them. All of my other classes came over so I'm actually a sophomore level student but a freshman nursing major. I will complete my BSN in three years instead of four because of that.

Ok I'll have to check it out. Hey I'll pay $350 for something I know will help me pass. I'll probably do the half days. I don't know if I could retain 8 hours of information.

Oh ok good to know. How long of a Kaplan review did you do? I have a Kaplan book from CCP and online access as well to creating personalized tests and other stuff. Its pretty nice. It expires in Sept of 2014 though I believe.

Good point. A lot of people had those problems. If ypuve never heard of it, I use a program called dropbox. U sign up for an accout online and it creates a folder on your desktop. As long as you save your work to that folder you can access it online from any computer. Its nice cause microsoft office usually autosaves youur work every so many minites so if u were in the middle of something..like a lonh edit amd your computer crashes you would only lpse what wasn't saved from the last autosave rather the last time you emailed yout last edit. Try it out. You may like it.

Yeah the only classes I saw that are available in the summer are pharm and the senior level classes. Leadership & Mgmt is one of the senior classes available in the summer that doesn't have any pre or coreqs so I'm curious if I could take that summer after my ASN is done even though it s a 4000 level class. At CCP they took all of your summer sessions together and counted them as one semester so if I only took a 3 credit class in summer 1 and a 3 credit in summer 2 i would be considered half time. I wonder is GMC does anything like that. I wouldn't want to take any other class with pharm but I would take a class in the other summer session if it meant i would get some financial aid. Did you have to pay for the Kaplan review at the end of your ASN? CCP had it bundled into your tuition so you didn't pay anything for it. Oh one last thing, since clinicals don't start for the first 5 weeks and your doing in class prep for those days.. I know your in class from 8am-3pm but do you have to wear your scrubs? I don't recall them saying if we do or where we meet for those days.

Good idea putting your name on the recorder.. didn't even think of that. I was probably not going to do fulltime during the summer. I'm not sure how that will work out with my financial aid but I thought of just taking Pharm in one summer session and maybe another in summer 2 depending whats available. I did notice some of the nursing courses don't have pre or coreqs attached so I was gonna speak to a counselor to see if they were available to take over summer or something. I still have to think about everything and plan it all out. Good to hear that if I am ahead like you I can probably take a few of the courses I want since I'll have the availability. Are you going to get your MSN? My plan was to just keep taking classes even if its only one class a semester once I'm done my BSN to stay educated. Maybe we can meet one day at school since I will be there everyday..lol

Julie, I pretty much figured I would be going through the summer every year even in senior because of the course load. I like how you have that senior level elective so depending on what field your interested in getting into you can take a course related to that. I would really like to take the select health problems for women and children because I wanna do Neonatal nursing eventually but I also would love to take the critically ill patient because I want to start out doing critical care if I can get my foot in the door. I work for Holy Redeemer as a home health aide and they told us as employees we are likely to be hired right out of school since they hire within. I'm crossing my fingers for that. But thats a long way off..lol I really like that they have those academic success classes if you are feeling overwhelmed. My classes don't start until 11am except for clinical day so my plan was to get to school before 9am everyday and get some study, reading, etc in before the day starts. I also have like 45min-1hr breaks between classes so I can get some time in there as well. Its hard to get anything done at home unless its after the kids are in bed so I plan to utilize all my spare time away from home and get as much done as I can. If you wouldn't mind sending my that document you have for clinical paperwork I would really appreciate it. [email protected] Thankfully I do have a nursing diagnosis book and a med book already so they will help with the clinical paperwork. My friend is also starting at GMC this fall and we are taking all of the same classes together so she is my wingman..lol Its hard to find people to study with that are equally if not more motivated than yourself. At CCP I tried getting a study group together..the girls either didn't show up or when they did show up they talked the whole time about being so stressed and we got nothing accomplished. My friend and I have taken classes together in the past and we work well together so I know it will help alot having her. Do the teachers tend to give out their lectures prior to class so you can bring them with you and take notes on them? A lot of teachers at CCP uploaded the info pertaining to that days lecture before the class so you could come prepared. Also do they have any issues with taping lectures? I have a mini recorder I was gonna bring. I know some teachers don't like that though. Did you use the study guide books for your texts? I bought the study guides for both the fundamentals and med-surg books.

You have no idea how helpful you've been with just the few things you've said. So do you still have two more years left? Because I have all except one of my ASN classes done other than nursing courses I'm taking BSN classes with my ASN nursing classes. I was told I can be done in three years instead of four so I was planning to take Pharm in the summer of 2014 along with another course that way when I get to my BSN portion I will only have two semesters worth of material and maybe one summer session. I also have the gold scholarship so same as you I have to remain full time which is terrifying. I've been going part-time at Phila Community maintaining good grades. My fear is having to take 13 credits at a time..i may lose it and get completely overwhelmed..I have two children.. a 3 yr old and a 9 month old. What type of papers/projects did you have to do? At CCP we had to do a critical thinking paper on health promotion/disease prevention first semester. It had to be 7 pages and we had to interview someone. I believe that they had to do another one second semester as well. Do they have reviews prior to tests? CCP would have a review prior to school starting at like 7am a few days before the exams for people who had questions about specific material. They wouldn't tell you whats on the test but told you to bring any questions you had and they would review that specific area.

Thanks for the info Juliemsoltis. I did one semester at CCP for Nursing and they did the same thing with the reading list so we were always behind. You realize after a few weeks the information you really need to know versus the 300 pages a week you are told to read. That being said since they gave us the reading list for GMC already I'm trying to read ahead and at least have week one possibly two done before we start in a few weeks. FYI my friend graduated from GMC as well and went on to their BSN program. She said it was WAY easier than the ASN portion. She said they wrote a lot of papers but it was nothing compared to what the first two years were. She said she only had to go into class one day a week. I guess you can do a lot of it online if you need to. Question: For the NCLEX how and what did you study? How long after graduation did you take the exam? A friend of mine said to give yourself a weeks break after graduation and do nothing, then study for a week straight, then go take it. I thought that was a good philosophy. Don't wanna wait too long.. I feel like I would start to forget some things we learned.

I'm finally getting my second Varicella vaccine today and that will conclude all of my immunizations and all that jazz. I can finally send in my health paperwork and then I am officially done getting everything I need. :)

its a separate bundle that cost almost $200..totally insane but i accounted for that in the approx $1000 i told u about previously. :) I bought a pair of Dansko's for my CCP program but I don't think we are allowed to wear those at GMC so Im probably just gonna get a plain white pair of sketchers or something of the sort.

Gwynedd Mercy Fall 2013
Yeahs its pretty typical of a nursing program. I spent roughly the same amount on books for CCP's program and wasn't able to return any of them. And of course GMC doesn't use any of the same books as CCP so I had to spend another $1000 which sucked. You will be using the books for two years though so just remember you won't be buying books for nursing again unless its for one specific area that isn't discussed in the regular texts books.. for example maternity or something like that.
-
Gwynedd Mercy Fall 2013
No problem. I can send you the list of books if you want. GMC actually did two bundles of the books at discounted prices if you bought them all at once but you can still look and see about getting them elsewhere. It seems they do require you to have the codes and online access for a lot of things though so you may not want to buy them used.

Gwynedd Mercy Fall 2013
yes i have all of mine. it was almost $1000 for everything including my other two classes which i rented those two. you can't look them up by nur110 it has it listed under freshman nursing or something like that. also yes you have to order your uniforms from flynn & ohara because they put all of your patches on your shirts and jackets. also I already had cranberry/maroon colors scrubs because i work in healthcare and i thought maybe i could get away with not ordering the pants so I only purchased one pair but the colors are different so I need to order another pair. GMC is very particular about the uniform requirements.

After you mentioned your issue with your Stat class I looked into mine and its a Statistics for Science class so it does carry over. I start my final semester at CCP on monday. Can't believe in less than two months we will be starting nursing school. Don't forget as far as the clinical day goes, for the first 5 weeks or so we will be in school from like 8-3 on that day and then they will place us for clinical and that can be day or night. I don't know if you have any children to make arrangements for. When I did my one semester of nursing at CCP i didn't realize we were in school for the first 5 weeks for clinicals and i didn't make arrangements to have my kids watched on that day. Thankfully I had a great sitter who was understanding..lol What other classes are you taking?
-
Gwynedd Mercy Fall 2013
See thats weird about your statistics because mine is not a nursing statistics either but it coincides with the statistics class that GMC wants you to take. I asked my admissions rep about it and he said it is something I can take..he better not have made me take something I'm going to have to retake at GMC..hmmm Once you register for classes you will get a login to the myGMC website. It will give you access to the ASN nursing portal where you can download all of your necessary documents including the book list, summer reading list, clinical requirements, health form, parking permit, etc. The way my schedule is broken down I have class every day. Since no matter what you have to keep fulltime status the first 2 years you attend I would assume you will be in class at least 4 days if not 5. The nursing classes are monday, wednesday, and thursday, and tuesday is considered your clinical day. However the first 5-6 weeks of the semester we will be doing in class clinicals. So Tuesday is blocked out all day, so you cannot register for any classes on that day. I think you have the option to chose clinicals to be tuesday or thursday but whatever day you chose you cannot register for any other classes on that day.

I hope to god they take my statistics. Its on the transfer agreement with ccp as a class that transfers over but ya never know. I just finished it this week and I have an A which is a good boost on my GPA. I'm already getting the Crimson Scholarship so Im hoping with these summer classes I'll boost my gpa up the little bit needed to get the Gold Scholarship. I'm dying waiting for the summer readings to be posted. I got everything else done. FYI for those ordering uniforms. The pants run really big and so do the jackets. I wear scrubs for work so I just bought the same size I normally wear which is a medium, and now I have to send back the jacket and pants It didn't dawn on me that the pants and the jacket are adult mediums not women's mediums..so take that into consideration when ordering. :) Also Kim you would be surprised how many people are coming back to school for career changes, second degrees, etc. My one semester of nursing at CCP, there wasn't anyone under 25 in the 150 people that were accepted.
-
Gwynedd Mercy Fall 2013
yea I registered like 2 months ago. I'm taking advanced physiology, morality and contemporary healthcare, and nursing 110 and 111. Have you taking care of getting everything you need yet..books, health forms, uniforms, etc?

2013 CCP Nursing Program
The 2 step ppd's are done one week apart from eachother so it really isn't a big deal. Its the Hep B and Varicella that take awhile if you need them. Hep B is a 3 stage shot, you get one then have to wait one month for the 2nd, and the 3rd is done 6 months later. I think they want you to have at least one if not 2 shots done. The Varicella is two shots, one month apart. Don't worry about the timing. There were people that in September still didn't have all of their stuff in. They will harass you about it during the first few weeks of school if you are missing something.

Oh thats right. I forgot that its a program for those who already have their bachelors in another field. So how does that work if you only have an ASN in nursing but have a bachelors in another field? Don't you have to take the credits required for a BSN or are you getting your masters in your original degree and just getting your RN license?
-
Gwynedd Mercy Fall 2013
Healthnut, I assume your in the BSN program correct? How are the professors? Also I am taking advanced physiology in the fall and was curious if you took it already and if so how it was?
