Hey everyone I've been visiting this forum a lot but just now decided to make an account. I'm still a student nurse -- on my last semester of clinical before I graduate and I'm placed in ER at Brampton Civic Hospital. Yes that's right I'm Canadian . Having worked during the summer as a clinical extern, I had dialogues with lots of different nurses with different outlook on nursing. Being a guy, I find it really hard to be a bed side nurse for my whole life. I like action. Here in Canada the most I can be with my BsCN is not up to par with what I want (ridiculously high taxes, low pay, not much gain from advanced nursing education, nurse being powerless to Doctors who by the way control health care in this province). I know I can find action more in ER or OR in hospitals but I heard Correctional Facilities offer better shift hours I recently have been looking into working in the US after a year of experience here and Cali would be my first choice of state to work in. I know the pay is high because of expensive cost of living, but I also just like the general area (always wanted to live there). So my question is: How is nursing in a prison like? Were there any instances of nurses being injured, or abused by other non-nursing staff? I know it sounds cliche and maybe borderline sexists but has there been any harrassment cases going on by guards/ other staff to nurses? (Though I don't have to worry since I'm a guy but I'd still like to know). In any case, would they require more experience than my 1 year of experience here in Canada (either ER or general medicine floor).
