Jobs in Outpatient Ambulatory Care?
Hi everyone, a couple of questions. I am thinking of travel nursing, so I want to read everything I can here and try to figure out if it is right for me. I was in nursing back in the pen and paper days, out for 17 years, and then returned about 3 years ago. To be honest, I feel like a baby nurse all over again, so I'm not sure I have the confidence for travel nursing. I work in Ambulatory Outpatient Treatment. Does anyone know if there are many travel jobs in this area? Also, I work in a non-reciprocal state as far as my license goes. Does this make it more difficult? I like the idea of traveling and seeing some new places. I like the job where I am now, but another reason I'm thinking of leaving is because the benefits stink. So many cuts, from what long-timers tell me, and our insurance really stinks. Back to reading!

New to dialysis
Wow. I was interested in dialysis, but you may have talked me out of it. I was out of nursing for 17 years, and have just returned. I have two part time jobs, but will probably need to go FT for better benefits.

Math Again
Wow. Thanks for all the help. I'm going to assume there's something wrong with this problem. I'm trying to re-learn all these calculations that I haven't done in years and years, and it doesn't take much to confuse me. I have been using dosagehelp.com to practice, and I'll check out the other one that Esmel reccommended. I'll have to take a medications test at the hospital, and I'm trying to get all this straight in my head before I go in there! Thanks!

Math Again
I'm doing some practice problems, and this is from nursesaregreat.com: A procainamide drip is ordered (2 gm in 250 cc of D5W) to infuse at 4mg/kg/min. The patient weighs 165 lbs. Calculate the drip rate in cc/hr for which the infusion pump will be set at. 165 lbs = 75 kg 2gm = 200,000 mcg 4mg = .004 mcg I'm trying to do the formula like this: solution cc __________ X 60min/hr X kg X mcg/kg/min = cc/hr drug mcg Am I doing this right? The answer should be 30, but that's not what I'm getting. I'm sort of hoping this problem has a mistake in it because it has fried my brain! I did, however, catch the preposition at the end of the sentence, so maybe I should have majored in English.

Thank you for your help. I'm an idiot. The 3 was the number of the problem, so yes the answer was 75. I just couldn't figure how to write it. I'm going to study your example and work on more of the practice problems and hopefully this is going to click for me!! Thanks so much!

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and am returning to nursing after being out for many years. I didn't let my licesnse expire, and I'm taking a refresher course. I'm having a terrible time with the math. Some of it has come back to me, but I'm having trouble figuring out formulas. I have some problems with the answers, and some of them I can do in my head, but can't tell you how I got there. Could someone explain the basic way to solve this problem: Isuprel 2 mg IV per 500 cc D5W at 5 mcg/min__________rate The answer is 3.75 I know I need to practice, but I'm just stuck. Thank you.
