Any UK RN's looking to move to Canada??
Hello again : ) I'm really grateful to you for replying to me posts Silverdragon, as you seem to have a lot of knowledge about things, currently I'm working as an outpatients staff nurse, I've been there for 5 years now, and I also have additional 5 months experience from a surgical ward and 6 months from an A&E department. In outpatients I take bloods, do pre assessments, wound care and assist with minor operations...I hope this experience will help me wherever I may end up in Canada. As mentioned previously I have family in Vancouver BC so that is where I am looking to move, I know I will have to end up taking make up classes and the SEC before I am allowed to register..working in canada will be totally different I can imagine but its something i have had my heart set on for years and i don't want to give up my dream. I did see from a couple of your posts to others that you enjoy what you do and that you wouldnt ever return to the UK...I hope I have as much luck as you have :)

wanting to work in Canada!!HELP!! teach me how..
Silverdragon.. I have been accepted for a Permanent resident visa, so once I reach Vancouver I won't have to keep flying back and forth to the UK, I will be staying with my uncle for a lil while there so I will be available to take any extra courses or education or assessments that I need...I will be saving up a hell of a lot of money before I move to Vancouver... (looking to move in jan 2013) I am aware it could be potentially expensive, I guess I just want to do whatever it takes to allow me to work as an RN in Canada..I want to be up to par with canadian nurses and the knowledge they have, am a bit worried about the SEC assessment but at the end of the day I know it will be to my benefit.. You said you had to do some make up courses, what areas in? Did they help you and do you enjoy nursing in Canada?? :) Hope you don't mind the questions. Thanks once again

Any UK RN's looking to move to Canada??
Hi there everyone Am new to this forum...I'm currently near the end stage of a permanent resident visa to Canada for which I have been accepted...I'm curious if there are any other UK nurses wanting to work in Canada in the future, or are there any there now who have had to re-educate to get themselves up to par with the canadian nurses, what have been your experiences please? I know I will have to take the SEC and the qualifying courses, as I lack hours in my training in some areas.... Any replies to this would be very welcome : ) Thankyou

wanting to work in Canada!!HELP!! teach me how..
Hi silverdragon I am new to this site...Could you please give me some advice? I am an RN from the UK and I am in the process of getting a PR visa for Canada, to move to B.C I've had my medicals done so just waiting on the result. I've been reading a lot of the posts here about IEN's and am a bit worried... I've always wanted to move to Canada as have some friends and family there. I know for a fact I will need to take some qualifying courses once I get to BC as I lack hours in paeds, obs and psychiatry..as I am adult trained only, also I realise I may have to take an SEC?? I am a very open minded person and am willing to learn whatever it takes to get me to the standard of a new canadian nursing grad... Do you think this kind of attitude will help me achieve my goal? Would I be able to become competant enough to practice in a Canadian setting? I am willing to learn whatever is necessary,I'm just worried that my UK education will hinder me? Thankyou
