  1. Thank you! I will look into both. Thank you. I have no doubt that I can pick skills back up quickly and learn something new, it is just getting someone to give me that chance you know. You tube is a good idea. Thanks!
  2. Afternoon all, I am an RN of 5 years now. I went into dialysis after nursing school and have been trucking along with the last 3 years as a clinical nurse manager at an outpatient dialysis clinic. I have always loved it, but now I have found that I want to try something new. Although, I am not 100% what that something new is? I have a heart for children and would love to work with them, so maybe something in pediatrics? Anyway, what can I do to "refresh" some nursing skills that I may not have used in a while? Do nursing refresher courses exist? What can I do to make myself more marketable? Certifications? I feel as though I am a fast learner and a competent and compassionate nurse, but I am finding that no one wants to give you a chance in any other areas of nursing once they see you have limited experience. How can I ever try anything new?? Thanks!
  3. So sorry to hear this! Hope you recover quickly and good luck in the future!!
  4. That's crazy! I wonder why they wouldn't make sure there were enough? They know how many students there's going to be. I hope they come in quick for those that still need them.
  5. Of course!
  6. Stacey and Jennifer I added you guys. Lee Ann, it's not letting me add you because you're not on my friend's list. So you'll have to request to be added I think.
  7. LSC-Kingwood Nursing Class 2014 Ok, there's the link to the group! And I'm not sure if you have to add me first or not since I started it, but just in case my name is Sarina Padgett. ETA- Actually I think I have to add people so just give me names and I'll add ya!
  8. I've searched and can't find anything but previous class ones. I'll see if I can figure out how to start one!
  9. How would you guys feel about creating a facebook page for our Kwood nursing class? I've noticed that a few of the previous classes have made one as a quick way to communicate about school stuff. I don't know if all you guys even use facebook, but it was just an idea I thought of when I found the other pages!
  10. Did you get yours from the scrub store? I don't remember which I got..the lady didn't give me a choice, she just handed me some. Lol
  11. Yes, it's in the kit! Sorry Maybe you can sell one or the other!
  12. JennBU06, The book kit is at the bookstore and it is approx. $570. There is also an extra book not included in the kit that is around $100 that we will need. The papers given to us at orientation also showed a drug book that looks like it's not included in the kit, but it is. For next the mini next week I was told that we need the Nursing Skills textbook (linked above) and a stethoscope.
  13. Are you quest or basic? I thought they were different?! Lol And if you're Kingwood we do not were scrubs for the mini next week. We only wear scrubs on clinical days at the hospital. I emailed the director yesterday and she said next week we'll need the Nursing Skills book and a stethoscope. *This is all assuming that you're classes are the same as mine, of course, because I'm in the Basic Track.
  14. iamleeann, I know there was something about nursing homes and I'm pretty sure they are an option as far as a clinical site. But, I don't remember anything specifically about it being the first one. ikegrad2002, I think the medical center is an option, although they may not use it very much. I remember when I was meeting with my nursing advisor to get everything ready to apply she told me that they have contracts all over including one even in Baytown! So even though they may not use them often, I think they are a possibility.
  15. Nevermind, I don't think LBJ is in the medical center. Just looked it up! Lol
  16. Actually, I think they do unless they've changed it! A friend of mine graduated from kwood a few years ago and her hospitals were kwood, northeast, Triumph on 1960 and LBJ (which is downtown, I believe..could be wrong though.) I'm hoping for ones closer to home than the medical center, but I'll def take what I can get!
  17. Gosh I'm getting nervous about next week! Lol
  18. Does anyone know when we'll find out which hospital we're at?
  19. Yes, I was surprised that we needed our stethoscope so soon! But sounds like fun! I haven't taken any classes other than the ADN ones so far so I think next summer I'm going to start taking a few of the BSN core classes online since we won't have class.
  20. ness27, I am in the Basic Track and my book kit included the same Maternity book by Ricci and my list showed one by Orshan. I saw that yesterday too! I bet they probably just changed books though.
  21. What I'm confused about is WHAT exactly to have to have done in order to apply for their BSN program. I have only taken the classes for LSC's ADN so I know there are a lot more I need to take. I just don't know if all the core classes (2 histories, governments, etc.) have to be taken before you apply for admission or if you take those after you've been accepted into their program?? Does that make sense? Lol I need to just make an appt. to go speak with an advisor so maybe I can figure out if and what classes I need to take next summer on break for NS!
  22. Also, they returned my email about what we'll need next week (Kingwood). We need the Taylor Nursing Skills book and a stethoscope. That book is part of the book kit.
  23. Now available: RN to BSN Program at LSC-University Center at Montgomery through The University of Houston-Victoria Here is the link to their page!
  24. Did anyone know that U of H Victoria has an RN-BSN program through LoneStar's Univeristy Center? I'm really interested in doing this when I get my RN from Kingwood!
  25. I just sent an email to see what we need to bring for next. Hopefully I will hear something back. I didn't see a book on the list for that class, but I just want to make sure.
