Scared at new job in psychiatric hospital
Hi GypseyGirl If you are really concerned about your safery, I would look at another type of work for the moment while you search for the one you want. At least you'll be making some money while you look. Good luck.

Need to share my feelings
Growing old and frail is so difficult especially not having your loved one near. His wife was lucky to have had him. You're a nice person, probably your act of kindness really warmed his heart a little bit. If you are a believer, pray for him, it will make you both feel better. I'll pray for you two tonight.

My daughter wants to be a nurse
I know, I really feel bad for new grads now. I graduated in 1999 and at that time I could leave a job and find another one the next day. My cousin graduated a year ago with an ADN and it took her 9 months to find a job. She's 47 years old. She's working now as a psych nurse and she hates it. Would like to work in med-surg, but nobody would hire her because she doesn't have experience. I hope by the time my daughter graduates, things are going to be different.

Older RNs, job market for experienced RN
I'm looking for work as a nurse. I'm 53 with 12 years experience. Everywhere I apply they say "recent graduates need not to apply". But there is discrimination with age too. So, what the heck? Almost none of the positions I've seen posted are full time. I would like to work enough hours to get benefits, but the positions I see are Per Diem, one shift 12 hours another 8 hours. To me it looks like they are trying to fill holes and avoid paying benefits.

My daughter wants to be a nurse
Thank you everybody. I forgot to tell you that I'm a nurse too. I just hope that she's ready to study hard because she's not a great student, but she's smart. I remember that going to nursing school was the hardest thing I've ever done. But I was 36 years old then. I have an ADN, but now a lot of hospitals hire only BSN.

My daughter wants to be a nurse
My daughter wants to go to nursing school. She's finishing high school this year. She wants to go to a community college and do the associates degree nursing program. She says that after she gets the RN she wants to do the bachelors. I would like her to go directly to a bacholer degree program. What would be better? I've heard that going to an LPN program and then go for the BS in nursing is also good. Any inputs? Thanks
