Hi all, Has anyone following this thread NOT received an aid package yet? I submitted my FAFSA by Feb.1 and am starting to wonder what's going on!

Yale GEPN Applicants 2012
Thanks to everyone who has been giving me her two cents:) Steelypop--I love the research process and have given a lot of thought already to potential praxis theses. In the past, I have struggled with the self-paced aspect of the actual writing, i.e. every research paper I've written has been done at the last minute! To what degree does the faculty guide you? How often are you required to check in w/ them?

Yale GEPN Applicants 2012
Hi awhitmer et al, To my embarrassment, I have never had a facebook! I will be getting one so I can take advantage of the Nursing School page. Financially I feel the programs are comparable, but I live near New Haven and know you can live there cheaply without trying too hard. I have two kids, so the thought of adding up all living expenses in NYC gives me a minor panic attack. Here's what I like about Columbia: 2 yrs and change for 2 degrees, and the opportunity to go for the DNP quickly and easily if need be; a more diverse clinical experience; no final thesis project; I have many friends who live in the city....Cons? The cohort is much larger, so I feel like there may not be as much opportunity to meet people outside your specialty; The first year is a huge burden financially (for me anyway); I didn't get as much of a sense of community there; needing public trans to get to clinical sites; larger student to faculty ratio. Yale pros: small class, great community atmosphere, I actually like New Haven, more faculty involvement and low ratio, many resources for families, and it's my guess that the faculty may be less transient at Yale than at Columbia. I'm the type of person who likes to check in w/ old profs and many faculty members at interview day had been involved with Yale for a long time. Cons: Even though I like NH, it's no New York, the program is an academic year longer, and the praxis scares me a bit. My heart says Yale, but I am worried about future job requisites. Has anyone heard about this?

Hey manhattandoula! Congrats on your acceptance, I too got into the MW program (I'm pretty sure we had our interview day together...) Here are my thoughts on your prereqs--I'm assuming you have the books for all these courses, and it appears you will be taking A&P regardless. It's nice to have a background, but I would just focus on your life right now (since you likely won't have much of one come September) and consider your texts "summer reading":) Im sort of in the same boat...I'm taking Micro for Columbia and if I choose Yale, I feel I'd rather spend the time with my kids. I won't get a refund either but I don't see the point in spending extra time taking courses I don't need when I could be using the time to get my life in order for the coming year! Is anyone else on the thread debating between Columbia and Yale? I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons before receiving aid packages. I prefer the atmosphere and ingenuity at Yale, but Columbia's program is considerably shorter and awards the BS, Nursing. I've heard a lot of talk about future job requisites, including some cities will require a BSN for an RN position, and that the DNP will be required for nurse practitioners by 2015. Anyone have some light to shed?

Thanks, simplekategirl. I figured they would have it and don't want to make this feel like a corporate interview! I'll definitely forego the trip to kinkos:)

Quick question to those who have interviewed already- Did you all bring copies of your resume to your interviewer? If so, was your interviewer receptive of that? Thanks and good luck to everyone who will attend interview day tomorrow or Friday!

Hi Clovette, I live in Fairfield, CT and am familiar with the city and New Haven. The MNR is generally very true to schedule, so if you know you can get to Grand Central by a certain time to arrive by 8 you should be good. The New Haven station is within walking distance of YSN, and there are usually plenty of cabs. Hope this helps! Are you interviewing next Thurs of Fri?

Yale GEPN Applicants 2012
Hi everyone-- I've been following this thread for a while but just decided to share my crazy story! I didn't receive an email invitation to interview in December and was disappointed as I thought I was a competitive applicant. This morning, my phone rings and it is SE asking if I will be attending the interview on January 27th? Shocked and confused, I told her I never received an email. It turns out they entered my address incorrectly!!! I will be interviewing on Jan 27th for the midwifery specialty and could not be more thrilled! Anyone know acceptance statistics for the midwifery specialty or acceptance rates for those that were offered interviews from previous years? So excited and can't wait to meet some of you in January!
