  1. I am a 50 year old RN that has had chronic pain issues for as long as I can remember. I had a very brief run of narcotic use in 2009 and diverted at work at that time. I was "caught", for which I am grateful, and entered the Alternative Program in NC at that time. I have been clean and sober from that day. I have significant osteoarthritis and have just been diagnosed with both RA and LUPUS. I have constant pain every day. I continue to work my 50hr work week and have not taken anything stronger than xtra strenght Tylenol and Motrin. My MD wants to prescribe medication for my pain { prescription strength NSAIDS} but I almost feel that I will send up a red flag to the Nursing Board. As participants, we are able to take medications prescribed by our PCP but I almost feel that this will send a negative message out to the board. I think a part of me feels that I should be able to deal with my disability without medications to prove to myself I am stronger than the pain. Another part of me is petrified to do anything that brings attention to the board. Does anybody have any advice for me? Thanks
