Need some tips avoid panicking when pt condition declines/need immediate intervention
I work on telemetry unit. I had a pt who had 3 beats of vtach I knew it was not emergent situation as the pt was asymptomatic VSS. AAOX3. I called attending at 5 am and wanted orders for lab, attending got upset that I should have called cardiologist. I became nervous and I did not ask her for BMPand Mg lab. Finally l called cardiologist at 6 am and got the orders.I know what to do but I keep asking other nurses even though I know I am doing the right interventions it makes me feel that I am less confident.

I recently started working in hospital, this is my first hospital job. I dont find enough time to go over the consults and lab results and sometimes I am blank when next shift comes and asks for the report. How should I manage my time? I would appreciate if other night shift nurses could explain me what is the best way to manage time. I highly appreciate your replies.

Flushing JP Drain
Thanks I just wanted the information. I am an overcautious nurse. I wont do anything without getting physician's order or checking facility protocol. I just wanted to know as I heard of Jackson Pratt could be flushed. My rationale was if the drain is to drain the fluids from the wound why does it need to be flushed?

How to improve job satisfaction?
I am a new nurse. I work in LTC and subacute. Most of the times when I come home and reflect upon my day I feel I should have given more care to my patients but the eight hours shift and too many patients feels too much. I feel being rushed. Is it normal? What can I do to improve my job satisfaction? I stay back to do wound care, dressing changes and make calls to doctors instead of passing on to next shift nurse. What should I do to improve my job satisfaction? Are these feelings common for a new nurse. I would appreciate your suggestions or tips to increase my work performance and improve job satisfaction

Taking care of confused patients in subacute setting
In LTC and subcute many patients have dementia. I told the aide to keep watch on the patient and put the cannula back if it is not in place. Is it okay to tape the cannula to patient's nose? Yes his O2 sat was dropping in 85-86 so I was constantly checking on him. I am a new nurse so I may sound stupid but wont sedation cause respiratory distress if patient sats are low?
