  1. What chemistry and life science books would those of you who have taken the teas recommend?
  2. Well thank u for all your honesty. I will work on my pre reqs for a bsn and do my adn first. Really I wanted to know if doing the surgical tech would at least get me in and maybe help with that whole networking thing. The nurses I know are primarily lvn's or work with psych patients.
  3. Thank you for all the advice. I will go ahead and call some HR's come Monday. Due to my childrens needs I am going for a slower pace to get to nursing school just because my son really needs me.
  4. Btw thank you for replying :)
  5. I live in San Diego so I know it is extremely competitive out here especially for new nurses. That is why I was wondering if becoming a surgical tech first might help give me some experience that would get me in somewhere once I become an RN. From what I hear around here new nurses (adn or bsn) can go up to a year without finding employment. I do get financial aid so I know that will help greatly in my ultimate decision.
  6. In order to become an OR nurse do I need a bsn or is an adn ok? I am barely in my 3rd semester of pre reqs at a cc and would like to know which way to go. I was thinking of doing the surgical tech program and working in that field for a couple of years before going for my associates. What do you guys recommend? I have a special 13 year old (emotional health problems), a six year old, and plan on having my third an last child next year. I want to take the right path and not run around in to many circles because I have my kids to be there for. I am 32 years old and after being a certified photographer and doing the whole M.A.A course I finally realized I want to be a nurse, I want to help people, and I love all the bloody stuff!
  7. I am blind in my left eye and have now had a prosthetic for almost 11 years. I totally get being self conscious. Children are always asking me what is wrong with my eye, but by now it is just a good conversation starter. I was afraid it would keep me from being able to nurse but I have spoken with several schools and they said they would accept me. So hey I say keep the great GPA and get out there and accomplish your dreams! I am about to be 32 and am working on my pre reqs with hopes to accomplish mine. You got this
  8. Most schools have changed to point system so basically try and have a 4.0 GPA in your pre reward and score well on the TEAS.
  9. you could do which ever is more convenient for you. I will be taking all pre-reqs including those needed to transfer at my cc and then applying to 3 different nursing programs at the nearest cc's. After that I'll be applying a UC or private school or which ever will take me. That's the way a friend of mine did it and as she worked on her bsn she working as a nurse for the county and after got hired at UCSD hospital with great pay and benefits. Good Luck to you:yes:
  10. I say go for it. Over here in San Diego it is a pre req and I imagine they did that for a reason. I know someone who used it to volunteer at a hospital which will give him points.
  11. I am sure you will do great . I am also taking the class and just from looking through the text it sounds awesome. Now sometimes it comes down to the professor. Did you check yours (ratemyprofessor.com) before enrolling in the class?
  12. What is Biol 189 in your school? I know that each cc has a different number for their classes even though it is all the same pre reqs.
  13. Retake sciences if possible and take a teas prep class before taking the test. I am just getting started but i do know that nursing is my passion and if I have to spend $$$ on buying all kinds of different books to help me and take an extra class or two I will! Also have you taken the VARK assessment to see what kind of learner you are? I just started Biol and our first assignment was to take the quick assessment so we can figure out what kind of learners we are. Best of luck to you I hope you get in somewhere
  14. Thank you for all the support. It's reassuring to know that I am amongst many dreaming of a nursing career that have dealt with at least a few issues in math. I remember being in pre algebra in 7th grade but never liked word problems. I will be online shopping for those books. I loved the wonder years I will put aside the summer for some serious studying!
  15. I am not sure of your family situation but if you have no children it seems very possible. Before you start shadowing maybe try the first few weeks and see how well you feel. It think anything is possible when you really want something. Stay on top of your studies though cause that holds the key to your future.
