Hi! I have ALWAYS wanted to go to nursing school, however crazy things I've always gotten in my way. I did all of my pre reqs except for Micro in 2011/2012 and then my husband good transferred to Massachusetts and the nursing program was a 3 year wait list! So I stupidly did dental assisting and I am certified in that but the pay is just into adequate at all $12-14 an hour. I am finally getting to go back to school to take my sciences again as they start expiring the end of this year and as I would like a refresher! My plan is to take A&P 1 and 2 this fall (one the first half of the semester and two the second half) and micro at the same fine and then start applying for nursing schools in the spring. We live in Odessa, TX and I am wanting to go to school in San Antonio at Baptist, but I will apply at Odessa College as well. I have two toddlers and will be putting them into daycare for the first time since my oldest was 7 months old ! My husband works in the oilfield and so he is never home and my family is in SC! We also full-time in our rv and my eventual goal 3-4 years after graduating is to do travel nursing! Any advice to offer in studying for the TEAS and in applying for college's in West Texas and at Baptist? Any advice for managing school with toddlers? Financially we are in great shape and I do not have to work at all while doing this which is a huge help! What have been the average GPA's and TEAS scores that you ahev been accepted to school with? What have you found to be the hardest part of going back to school if you are older and have a family?
  2. Thank you very much for the information! I plan on taking Micro, English 2, Sociology and Math 126 this fall and I am also applying for Resp. Therapist at QCC and I am taking another math class and chemistry for that this summer. I am really hoping I will get accepted to nursing but if not than I will go with resp. therapy.
  3. We just found out that my husband got Orders to Leominster, Mass for 3 years ! I am looking at going to nursing school when we get there at MWCC. So far I have the following classes done - A&P 1&2, Expository Writing, Introductory Algebra, Interpersonal Communication, General Psychology and Developmental Psychology. Does anybody know if they have a waiting list and if so how long is it? I really want to go for RN but I will settle for the LPN program. I just need to get in and finish before the 3 years are up. Anybody who has been there that can offer some advice I would appreciate it! Thanks!
  4. Hi! I figured I would join this site for some advice and support! I am 24 years old and just now over the summer semester started my pre-reqs for nursing. I have currently completed English 1, General Psyc, Intro Algebra, Developmental Pysc, Interpersonal Communication, and A&P1. Next semster I am taking only A&P 2 as we will be moving towards the end of the semester. I also work full time as a legal assistant. My husband is active duty military and we will be moving in May as he has gotten orders. I am planning over next summer taking Micro, Chemistry (if required, some of the schools I am looking at do not require it) and another math class and I should be ready to apply and have all of my pre-reqs and co-reqs done. We are however facing somewhat of a delima. My husband is rarely home due to his job and with his orders he is receiving he will be home for 3 years staight. We are contemplating trying to get pregnant when he gets home. For those of you that have been through nursing school with children, how hard did you find it to have a child and go to nursing school. I will more then likely not get to start school until Fall 2013, so the baby would be almost 1 year old. I am not sure if we should go ahead and try or wait until I am done with school. Any advice would be awesome.
