  1. Hi, I too started out as a new grad in an inpatient psych. Hospital right down the street from where I lived. I actually hated the "regular floor nursing" in school and I found my specialty! They hired me right then and there, I didn't even have my license yet just my interim permit...but now, oh about 25 years later I am still in psychiatric nursing working as an RN in a Partial Psychiatric Program and I absolutely love it! I have done every type of psych nursing there is and now approaching 50, I would be ever so willing to give new grads or anyone else in this wonderful field some advice, inside tips, etc..believe me I have seen it all! Congratulations to all who choose this highly needed specialty in nursing, which is often misunderstood by others, and seems to be so separated from "regular nursing" so to speak. Stick with it, you will know if it is for you or not right away, and again, thank you for choosing this challenging field!
