BCIT August 2013 Applicants
Ilovesushi, Congrats, welcome to the team! That's a good idea, an A & P refresher will serve you well. I'm doing that too at the moment. As for microbiology, you would have to apply for a transfer credit to determine if your microbiology course will transfer over. Here's the link: http://www.bcit.ca/files/pdf/admission/course_credit_exemption.pdf careubc, The tentative course list is on the BCIT website. http://www.bcit.ca/files/admission/pdf/2013_bsn_matrix.pdf Cheers!

I received the email. A friend of mine who is in the program said if you are having trouble attaining immunization records, BCIT Health Services will supply vaccination. I'm heading down to BCIT tomorrow to confirm. Does anyone know where and how to locate records of immunization that are affiliated with the Vancouver School Board. I remember taking shots when I was in elementary. Is there a public health nurse associated with VSB?

The worst part is many of the successful applicants from Jan 2013 intake have deferred their seat to the Aug 2013 intake. Instead of competing for 96 spots, we are competing for

Yes I did. I don't know if I will get accepted because I sent in my application late (Jan). But I applied to BCIT and I think that is my best shot. How about you?

BCIT August 2013 Applicants
I handed in all documentation today. I applied for the last intake and didn't make the 1st cut. I thought I would definitely get shortlisted. This time around I applied with 64 credits (GPA 3.68). I worked 6 years at London Drugs and have many volunteering hours. Some of the organizations I have been associated with are Coast Mental Health, The BC Cancer Society, Working Gear Clothing and a bunch of weekend cancer events. I completed the following: Anatomy and Physiology I, II English 1177 Psychology 1st and 2nd year Libs 7001, 7002 Good luck everyone!

Grant Macewan Sept 2013
Hi, I am from BC and was wondering if anyone has applied for the Sept 2013 intake. I am curious about the early conditional acceptance that is offered. The academic advisor mentioned that there is specific date for early acceptance, it is first come first serve. With that being said, does anyone know a tentative date in which an applicant would be considered for early acceptance?

Smiley65, I believe I owe you a thank you for all the “beast” responses. I think everyone who as used this forum should definitely owe you a big THANK YOU for all your countless feedback and advice. You’re quite the advocate for the program and it seems like you found your greatness, not just within nursing, but within yourself. I will definitely see you at BCIT when my time comes. And once again, a very humbling thank you.

Hey jjon, I didn’t get shortlisted as well. We seem to be in the same boat, 55 credits, a well rounded application, and some what disheartened but not discouraged. As you can see, I created this thread and have been heavily creeping on it for a year. It seems like those who have been shortlisted have at least 60 credits, I believe 66 or 64 is the lowest for the ones who have responded to this thread. My friend got shortlisted and he had a degree (120 credits). He works at a clinic and he has a lot of life experience. His resume is quite outstanding and makes mine look adolescent. However, he hasn’t completed first year psychology or the liberal electives. It seems as if the nursing panel heavily favours credits over work experience/volunteer etc. BCIT does clarify that the ideal applicant is one who demonstrates consistency within the following categories as mentioned. However, according to the information I have retained through this thread, credits seem to be the most attractive part of your application, which seems imperative. I go to Kwantlen too! I don’t know much about Kwantlen’s nursing program, so I will not comment. At first I thought BCIT had the best nursing program in BC, but now I know it doesn’t matter where you go, just as long as you get to your destination. From what I have been told, BCIT prepares you well for real life work and it seems that BCIT nursing students are well equipped for their future careers. That is not to say that Kwantlen or any other institution won’t provide you with the theoretical and practical experience of being a GREAT nurse – GREATness is entirely up to you. But what I do know is that after your first year of post graduation; it doesn’t matter where you graduated, everyone should relatively be at the same level of competency. Good luck with your future endeavors and with the nursing program you decided to attend.

BCIT Jan 2013 Applicants
Hey guys, I received notice that my application was a "non offer." I was confident that I would at least get shortlisted, but that didn't happen. This is a very competitive program. I applied with 55 credits with an overall GPA of 3.6. I completed: 6 credits of first year english 6 credits of first year psych 6 credits of 200 level psych 3 credits of first year sociology 3 credits of Libs 7001 3 credits of Libs 7002 4 credits of Anatomy & Physiology 1 4 credits of Anatomy & Physiology 2 I also worked at London Drugs for 6 years and volunteered at the BC Cancer Agency for a year, racking up over 100 hrs of volunteer experience. I sent the advisor a message regarding the reason why I was an non offer. I'm going to assume it is the credits, it is plausible that at least 96 applicants have 60 credits or more. Good luck to all of you!

Hey Smiley, in terms of watches, can they be digital or is one with a second hand required? Is it better to get one that is rubber versus leather or any other material? I'm getting ready for the program and in the process of purchasing equipment. Thanks!

The first time I went to the registration office was to hand in my Highschool transcript. Admin. had receieved it and processed my application which stated that I was missing a resume, post-secondary transcript, and bio 12 equivalent. At the end of July I went back to hand in my resume, post-secondary transcript that including bio 12 equivalency because I completed Anatomy and Physiology. Since the 2nd time I went, there has been no updates. If I call admin. would they be able to give me sufficient information regarding my application, I.E why I am missing requirements, have they looked at my resume, post-secondary transcript etc.? Or will they not bother looking and just say that they haven't gotten a chance to look at my other documentation because they are busy processing others.

Smiley65 My account currently says "Reviewed; Missing Documents" I sent in the missing documents about a month ago and will send in my final transcripts next week before Aug 31st. Do you suggest that I send my Admin officer another email or is it lost cause since they seem to be occupied?

Iheartpurple I sent in my documentation about a month ago and haven't received any updates. In terms of my Admin officer, I sent her an email but she didn't respond. I assume they are too busy to reply, since there are 1000's of applications they have to access.

I handed in my high school transcript, post-secondary transcript, and resume. However, I still have to hand in my updated marks/credits for the current summer semester. I wish everyone the best of luck!

itsjmh Hi, I haven't received a message that mentioned that the program is full and closed. I applied on the 1st day when registration was open. I have only provided proof of my high school marks, nothing else. That sucks that no one is responding to you. Did they send you that message in communications of mybcit?
