  1. @louismimi yes it is a lot of classes
  2. @louismimi they mentioned sometimes students drop out midway of the program and that's how seats will open up in the spring which I can't imagine it's a lot of seats. I noticed that their pre nursing curriculum is also a bit different.
  3. @louismimi it was good actually. They have so many applicants. I couldn't even get to the nursing dept. They told me I needed an appointment. Anyway I am working with admissions. They said they make final decisions for spring in January.
  4. Thanks. I'm interested in the Brooklyn campus. I tried calling numerous times today. I will pay a visit this afternoon.
  5. Ok thanks so much. I will give them a call tomorrow and pay them a visit. #verynervous
  6. Ok that's not a bad wait. Only one month. What gpa did you get in with? I have really good score in my sciences A and A- it's the stuff prior to me deciding to go into nursing that has my gpa at a 2.8 now. I was also intially told when I inquired at SJC that a 3.0 is needed and only accept students in the fall.
  7. Hi. Congrats. When did you apply and how long did it take to get an answer?
  8. Ah ok. Thanks for your reply. Wishing you luck. I know it's hard.
  9. Just curious what evening school nursing program did you get accepted to?
  10. There is a school out there for every one. Research is the key
  11. No regular layoff's right now they are actually hiring. I will keep the unemployment as one option. Im still working on how to approach my boss about this so still have it as an option
  12. Just curious if you will be able to talk to your boss to have them lay you off so that you can get the unemployment. Someone in payroll mentioned that to me once as a suggestion and its been in the back of my mind. She said it wouldnt hurt to try.
  13. Oh Great! you guys are all awesome! It's a very scary process, I know it can be one and I appreciate all your advise. Thank you so much. I am currently working on paying off all my bills, aside from my living expenses. I am a single woman however I do have family members who will chip in when they can for food, and transportation and small spending money when they can. IT's not much but every little bit helps. Im very thankful for that. Im just thinking out loud an my biggest concern is my mortgage. I'm not planning on starting nursing school until September anyway so I still have some time to be resourceful. I don't mind taking out loans for school i just dont want to make it a habit and take out loans for other major expenses. Another option: My employer does know that I am going to school. I'm hoping that as the time approaches they will lay me off as a favor so that I can get unemployment, but Im not depending on that. That may help me out a bit. I am definitely praying on it I just want to be able to make the best decision possible at the right given time.
  14. Another school is adelphi university in garden city long island. These private school you are looking at minimum 8,000 per semester but at the end of the day if you need to take out loans you might as well in stead of waiting around. NYU is more expensive but they give you a $2500 scholarship each semester so that helps. Maybe you can get some form of other financial aid. Someone said Molloy college in LI is another school. The LIU compus on LI doesnt o 4 year BSN it only does RN to BSN. Not sure how far in LI you are willing to go but stonybrook university is much cheaper cause its a SUNY school the waiting list is a lot less competitive
  15. Brief Run down: Im on my last semester of pre-nursing:yeah:. Nursing will be my 2nd degree. I already have an associates degree in business and have worked in the field for 10 years. Due the this unstable economy i decided to switch careers to nursing:redbeathe. My 9-5 job is not favorable to nursing school so i am seeking a job in the hospital especially a position with a union like 1199 that would aid in paying for my school. I am learning the hard way that the jobs on the nurse floor like unit secretary or pca pay like $15 to my understanding. I already have a huge financial responsibility with the cost of living, mort., etc. I know a lot of people are career changers i would like advice as to how you guys did it financially Kinda shaking in my knees, to think i would have to take a pay cut. I am currently an Executive Assistant for a real estate Mogul as exciting as it may sound there is no growth and always someone right around the corner willing to take my job for the perks, the experience and opportunity...The hours can be unpredictable and there really is not much time to study on the job Is there something else that I could or should be doing while as i enter into nursing school. Am i selling myself short? Please share your experiences, thoughts, opinions and in sites:idea:. Thanks so much
  16. I did it! I took Micro and A&P 1 during the summer session (6weeks) at 2 different schools at the same time...omg what was I thinking but I did it and came out with B's. I totally did not dedicate myself to micro lecture but the lab is what saved me cause I was exceptional at that. A&P i was getting getting a A and i ha to do a make up exam and received a 75 and the professor said that he cannot believe that i passed the test cause he made it very hard, setting my up to fail! I was very upset. Came out with a B+ cause of that The only reason y i did it is cause i know the school that I was doing the micro at was much easier to pass than the school that I was doing the A&P at. A&p in the morning an MIcro in eve I say all this to say that it is very doiable but you have to know what you are capable of, everyone is different.
  17. Sad but true if you are past the withdrawal deadline speak to your prof. If you are a A student you def dont want a C that would only do major damage to your GPA. Realistically, you may want to fail the class on purpose so that you can retake it and hopefully get an A or B which will remove the failing grade from your GPA and the A or B will take its place. The failing grade will still be on your records it just wont affect your GPA. As for you not getting into nursing school...some schools require that if you are retaking a class you are automatically not qualified but not all schools. Venture out and research some other school. Good Luck, its tuff
  18. So i decided to go back to school for nursing, while down to my sciences, A&P, Chem, physics and micro my life took a different turn and was out of school for almost 3 years. My last science to complete is A&P 2 before entering into the nursing program which i am currently taking. Now I am learning that the sciences have an expiration date of 5 years. It use to be 10 years but now its 5 years. I did exceptionally well in these classes getting all A's but it was a ruff road. Nursing is not easy. If I have to re take these classes i honestly think I will quit after the nervous breakdown. So much money and time invested. When I 1st found out about this I could not even relax myself enough to study, I'm in a better place now where I can actually talk about it...omg My preferred school of choice is long island university Brooklyn campus, going for my 4 year. Going there in a few weeks to speak with a counselor, hoping someone could shed some light on this until then.
