How do you dilute IV push phenergan?
Our IV phenergan comes in 25 mg/ml vials. It is typically ordered as 6.25 mg IV push, I.e. 0.25 ml. How does everyone here draw that up on the floor? Typically, I'll use a 1ml syringe, draw up 0.25ml, and then, using the same blunt fill needle I drew up with, push the medication into a 10ml syringe containing my NS diluent (8-10ml). I've also seen people pull up the whole 25mg (1ml) of medication into exactly 9ml NS in a 10ml syringe, and then waste 7.5ml to get to the 6.25mg in 2.5ml. I see INS recommendations that discourage transferring meds from one syringe to another, but often times you require both a higher volume (I.e. 10ml) and a finer degree of measurement accuracy (I.e. 0.25ml), and no single syringe meets both of these requirements. What's your practice?

AE MSN at UT Austin Summer 2012
I have accepted--Adult Health Teaching track. I'm also just waiting for the follow-up e-mail regarding compliance. As I'm in Austin, I'm going to register to take the Heartsaver First Aid and CPR with AED through Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services on the 3rd Saturday in March (17th). It's an all day class. If anyone in Austin wants to take it, the contact info is: John Villanueva, BS, NREMT-PCPR Program Coordinator Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services Professional Practices and Standards 512-978-0176 I'm not sure how many spots there are, but it's real convenient to my location/schedule I finished my pre-requisites in the fall and got to drop some unnecessary courses for the spring. Consequently I feel a little 'light' in my schedule right now. Probably a good thing, with what's coming around the corner. I was wondering if anyone in the thread has taken or would consider taking a CNA class? I may do that, in the hopes of getting PRN Nurse Tech work during the first year. I think this does two things: gets me more hands on/on the floor experience, and, of equal importance, it may give me a inroads to an RN position. It's a way to help assuage some of the fears (which I share) about the job market recently expressed on the board. Anyone (locally or otherwise) have good experiences with CNA courses?

Laflaca, I think I've seen you post on threads for other schools--good schools, but they aren't in Austin! One of the (many) reasons it was my far and away first choice. I intend on accepting shortly. Right after I drop two co-requisites that I had just started taking for one of my backup plans. I'd love to have a neighbor in the program! Especially someone with your experience. From what I've read, you can already teach me a lot about the field. I'm just sayin...

I'm in the same boat laflaca. I got the notification. There was a link to download a .pdf of the letter. The letter specifically states "you have been admitted to the Graduate School of The University of Texas at Austin for advanced study in Nursing - Alternate Entry." I think you (we!) are in! PHEWWWWWWWW! I am so excited to starting planning for school this summer! Good luck to everyone who's been posting. Thank you for making me feel like I wasn't the only one who reaaally wanted this opportunity. I guess the next step for me is financing...if anyone gets any good leads on scholarships etc., lets try to stoke that discussion---samianquazi, any input you have on funding school would be extremely helpful. I look forward to meeting you all at orientation!

Interviewed today. Just want to reiterate samianquazi and laflaca's points. Standard questions, but we spent a lot of time wandering off of the cut sheet. Very friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The people (2 professors) reinforced my desire to get in to this program--skilled, experienced and extremely personable. That's who I want as professors! Good luck!

Received my invite for an interview yesterday afternoon. I'll go next week on Wednesday--looks like with a single professor. And I thought I was nervous just waiting for the e-mail! I'll think I'll show up confident, although we'll see, after what are sure to be 6 sleepless nights... I guess we are still officially competing for a few cherished spots, but I'll post anything helpful that I take away from the interview. I hope that anyone who interviews before then would do the same. Good luck y'all!

Funny two other Austin area people on here responding. I'm sure Scott leaving does make it a little confusing there--he's who I've spoken with numerous times over the last couple of years. Have y'all finished all of your prereq's? I'm taking the last three this semester, and the accelerated schedule has me a little nervous. I need those grades added into my GPA--I'm a much better student this time around. My BA is in Biology/Psychology, from 1995. I'm also curious if anyone is working a parallel pathway (read: backup plan) towards an advanced nursing degree. I'm optimistic about UT AEMSN, and it's the best program for me for a bunch of reasons (respected program, excellent timeline, opportunity to do clinicals locally, etc.). Just curious if anyone (especially the locals) have explored any program that comes close to matching UT's.

I'm in the nervous and excited 2012 UT AEMSN crowd. From what I heard from the graduate coordinator, yes, the schedule is accelerated this year. Interviews before winter break (December 16th, I think), final decisions in early/mid January. He was nebulous about the interview process--format, how many interviews, etc. They do interview 75% + of applicants at least once. Applied to Adult Health - Teaching. I went to an info session early this year, and I do recall that a couple of the programs had very few projected slots. CNS was maybe 10 spots, and Mental Health NP was less--closer to 4. Anybody else applying from Austin?
