Anyone past/present JCCC RN student-Please respond
I postpone applying due to going full time at my job. I received by CNA last month. I'm taking Chem right now. I probably will apply in the Fall or next January for the Fall 2013 yr. By then I will have completed the sciences requirments. Plus, I'm trying to save some money to pay for the program. Being that I already have a Masters, I'm not eligible for student loans. Anyways, good luck with getting in. I heard it was hard but that's not going to discourage me from applying. My friend, who is an NP, used to teach there. She told me it's really hard to get in. But she encouraged me to get my LPN and then get my RN. Either, way, it's going to take 2 yrs. At least if I get an LPN, I can work as a nurse while getting my RN. Plus, there are more scholarships out there for LPN to RN that I could apply for. Plus I have my masters in social work, so with a LPN degree, I can go do administrator work, which is my area of focus or I could do UR or UM at a hospital and make decent money. Anyways, let me know if you get in. :)

LMSW Trying to Get in RN program- Please help
I'm not getting out of social work. Social work isn't going any where. I'm actually in process of working on my lcsw. I'm going to combine the two discpline to provide overall care for my clients. My goal is to be a psychiatric nurse practitioner. So, my advice to you would be to investigate to see which one you have a feel for. I love being a social worker and will never regret doing it. There is a sense of compassion that comes with social work as well as nursing. So, I'm glad that I became a social worker first and now it's time for me to add the additional piece, which is nursing, so that I can provide the overall care.

LMSW Trying to Get in RN program- Please help
Hello All, I'm currently working at three of the local hospitals as a LMSW (license master social worker). So my plan is to get my ADN, because I can pay for that out of pocket, then bridge into a BSN program. I know there's a lot of hype about hospitals not hiring ADN. However, I've worked at ST. Lukes past 6 yrs and they hire ADN all the time. As of matter of fact, they just hired several new ADNs in the ER depart. My gpa is a 3.5 for undergrad and 3.8 for grad. Of course, JCCC ADN program doesn't look at my grad GPA. I meet JCCC requirement for ACT and science reasoning. I have to retake Chem and Bio because I took them in 2001. BTW, I got As but their over 5 yrs. So, I'm enroll in Chem at JCCC. I'm wondering how hard would it be to get in their program? I'm a JO Co resident, so I know this would give me some points. I was also thinking about Penn Valley but was told it could be hard since I'm not a KC, MO resident. Please, someone out there give me some advice. Also, about scholarships as well. Thanks, :) P.S., I'm taking a CNA course and will have my cerification by December.

Anyone past/present JCCC RN student-Please respond
Hello All, I'm trying to get into JCCC RN program for fall 2012. I will complete my CNA cert in December. Can you let me know how it is getting into their program? I live in Jo CO so I know I can get 15 additional points for being KS and JO Co resident. My science reasoning on my ACT was 23; granted I took this in 98 when I was a sophomore in H.S. Should I re-take it to get a higher score? My overall ACT was 21, my college gpa was 3.5. I take chem and bio in under grad; received an A in chem and B in biology; both had labs. However, since I took them in 2001, I have to re-take, which is okay. I'm enroll in Chem 122 for this spring. I really want to get into this program. Can someone please let me know how difficult it is to get in the program and what I should be expecting? Thanks

Domestic Violence policies
Hello, I'm a LMSW at several of the hospitals in KC metro and I used to be a therapist at one of the local shelter. Here in the KC metro we have Bridge Span Advocates. This is an advocate with one of the local domestic violence (DV) shelters that comes out and provide pt with info about filing a protection order, going into a shelter and DV info. For example, the hospital on KC, MO side have advocates with Rose Brooks shelter. All you do is suggest it to the pt, if the agree, you contact Rose Brooks and they will have the advocate come out. At some of the hospitals, the advocate is located there during the day time. I'm not for sure where you're located at but I'm sure you could contact you local/surrounding DV shelter to see who's their Bridge Span Advocate is. I hope that helps. Let me know if you need any more info.
