El Centro campus really has a nice facility. Lecture halls are stadium style with outlets for laptops whereas Northlake is on the back wall or side wall. Not to mention El Centro's lab....And if you like to complain directly to the director of nursing,...she's just a few floors up. Instructors teach at both campuses. Good luck everyone. You can take your Hesi at the south Irving campus as well. They are more lax there, allowing students to take all the time they want and have their restroom breaks. Well that was what they were doing last year. GL

You'll do fine! Just keep an open mind. Other costs are uniforms, ATI fee, printer inks, parking fees if at El Centro, etc... Start saving if not already!

Not sure but they will send you info about the fingerprinting later on after your first meet. Drug screening is random after class starts. Be sure not to take any funky herbs. They will show up randomly and everyone will do the pee test.

We're charged around $170 for our first semester. We all felt it was a waste of money since it was a summary of our Fundamentals book. We'll be charged again next semester. Although, we can opt not to pay for it just like not buying books. But the consequence is we would lose 6% of our final grade. Next semester, I think our ATI grades are worth 10% instead. We just have to blindly open our wallets

No problem ajpesina. Both campuses share instructors. Unfortunately you do not get a choice on who your instructors are. You will be assigned one. In addition, you will not get to pick your clinical site either (unless you get lucky). You will however, have some choice over that matter by putting down which site you prefer. I preferred Parkland (so did everyone else) but by the time they called my number (randomly), Parkland was all taken, so was my other prefered choices. In other words, if you're called last to pick your site, you may just be stuck at your least favored site. There is one thing you must keep in mind here. DO NOT MAKE AN ENEMY OUT OF YOUR INSTRUCTOR. Befriend them!!! I can see you are going to do well... Nursing exams are not like your AnP or micro exams, you have to think critically-not just memorize facts. Read, comprehend, apply. Another thing, lots of negativity goes around. You'll need to stay focus. Students are so spoiled, they think just because they pay for the program they can expect perfection. Don't get caught up in that crowd. My clinical cohort was that way. You must know that you are entering this program with many issues-especially this Fall semester 1 class. The program has changed again and you guys are the experiment. Again, stay focus and keep up with the readings. You will learn to overcome adversity and become an even better person. I'm at Northlake but... 1. ceil blue top with black bottoms. (you can save money by buying your own black bottoms instead of paying Majors' price) 2. Doesn't matter what shoe as long as it is black. 3. The sooner the better....to start reading (They had already advised us to spend our summer reading for 2nd semester)

I agree with i3rns's comment wholeheartedly. I came in the program knowing how disorganized it is based on experiences from current students so it was nothing new to me. However, most of my cohorts weren't aware of this and complained endlessly through the semester. I just miserable hearing them complain...Here is an example, the director of nursing came to talk to the whole class about some changes for the summer and a student made a direct complaint to her in from of the whole class about the programs organization. Her reaction was not a pretty site and she threatened to cancel our classes for the summer. To make matters worse, the instructor said "if you don't like how the program works, GET OUT". Now doesn't that just contradict what they been teaching us all semester? How to communicated "therapeutically"? You can add no "empathy" to the program. For you guys going into the program...don't mess with the director, unless you want to shed some tears! Get some thick skin guys. gl

I remember going through this last session. I would suggest you guys buy some NCLEX books and start doing the questions. It will give you an idea of how your class exams are like. It's not like taking A and P or Micro exams. Those are easy tests compared to nursing exams....One of the girls made a 60 on her exam today and she cried in front of the teacher. Sad to see that. Also, get a hold of a Fundamentals book and start reading. Your new life is spent reading (almost all the time). 12 or more chapters per test at least. Not to mention online materials. Sarah, use this site: Hesi vocabulary flashcards | Quizlet Some of those words are on the exam for sure. My advice is to take the vocab section last. The reasoning behind that is, when you do the reading and grammar, some words are defined for you. Write down the definition on the scrap paper if that occurs. You never know if they ask you any on those words. When you do the math section (I would recommend that you do this first since it takes the most time and energy), write down any conversion that they give you. Write down the conversion as soon as they give you your scrap paper just in case you forget. GL!
