POLK STATE COLLEGE
Anyone out there in the program or have any information about the program at this college? I'm interested in getting my ADN. My overall GPA is a 2.8, BA in Biology, and need to take a few prereq's. I have to get all A's in all of them to get my GPA up to 3.0. How competitive is it to get into this program ? I am almost 40years old and don't want to waste my time or money (paying out of pocket, no loans) trying to get into the program only to be told my GPA is not good enough. I have been studying for the TEAS V getting in the 70's on the practice tests. I am tossing between going for this or going to get my LPN and getting to work. What are your thoughts, ideas, any information someone could let me know about this program and is it worth the time and money?

Any credible program that lets you take psychology online and it still counts?
Why aren't you able to retake your class? I was under the assumption you can retake a class as many times as you want.

Future RN going for LPN first
Not at all. I am in a similar situation I have BA in Biology only because my GPA wasn't good enough to get in the nursing program and I just wanted to be done with school. I am grown now and have a child to feed now too.... I am going back to get my RN, I will have to retake some classes and 3 prereq's but am taking my chances in hopes I will get in the ADN program. I have already been studying for the TEASV and looked into getting my LPN first but I would have to work for 3 years before I could get my RN so financially its cheaper to take a chance and hope I get in to this program. You will start at more money as an RN so if you have lots of college courses look into an RN program near you at a community college - you could work and take a few classes.

what are my chances and anatomy brush up books or sites?
I have finally decided to try for my RN. I graduated college back in 97' with a BA in Biology. At the beginning of my college career nursing was my intention but I goofed off and drank too much beer ended up graduating from UNCW with a 2.7 GPA. I have moved to FL and am raising my one and only child who is going to be 5 years old. I transferred to a small college in my hometown that offers an ADN program. I have 3 prerequisites to take and am going to retake some C classes over and hopefully get all A's in those and get my GPA to a 3.3 over all. I will get extra points when they evaluate my application because I have a degree. My plan is to take A&PI in Jan for Spring semester. Are there any books or websites that would help me brush up on my Anatomy before taking this class ? Also what do you think my chances of getting into an ADN program - is it as competitive as the BSN I was looking at years ago? They require min 2.5 overall GPA, min 2.0 in prereq (I'm at 3.3, now) TEAS V min is 60 but states that those who have gotten accepted into the program have a 70 or greater. I have been studying for the TEAS V already and am scoring 70's right now. I have had to brush up on my algebra and recalling alot of science (its coming back).

Extremely low GPA any hopes of getting into a nursing program
I am facing the same issues.. My GPA is a 2.7... I can retake one class which will bring me up to a 2.8. I have my bachelor's degree in bio but it does not state that on my transcripts. I am going to begin taking the rest of the prereq but even with all A's my gpa will only be about a 2.979 to be exact... The college I plan to attend will give me extra points for having a degree but how many???? Am I wasting my time or should I just get my LPN and work then take these prereq. and transition into the rn program???
