CRNA Hopeful Applicants
Don't bother with the NP program. Make an appointment with the director of the program and discuss your application. See what they recommend.

Questions for extracurricular tasks for CRNA school
I think if you can get accepted without having to take all of those classes then why spend the money? Your stats are great, you shouldn't have a problem. I think I worked in the same hospital as you before, but a different unit. The unit you work in is excellent experience. I kind of think that they will teach you everything you will need to know in the program, so why take all those extra classes if it's not necessary? As far as the CCRN, I would probably go ahead and take it. With your experience, you should have no problem. It's only a little bit of money and it will make you look even better as a candidate. Will you find out if you're accepted to the program before those classes are meant to start? Good luck.

Is SICU really the preferred ICU of choice when becoming a CRNA?
Either will be fine as long as acuity level is high and your target schools don't specify certain types of units.

Hi guys. There's a house around the corner from me for rent. It's adorable on the outside. Very nice part of the neighborhood. If anyone is interested I'll give you the phone number.

registerk1, I do remember your name and found your profile. I think you may have your privacy settings adjusted so I don't get a link to add you as a friend however. I will private message my FB name that you can find me under. It's under my maiden name...

Registerk1 - Hi! I was sitting next to you the whole interview. Congrats on getting in! The neighborhood I live in is called San Carlos Park and is very close to school. I could ride my bike if it wasn't so blasted hot down here! It's kind of a middle class type neighborhood with good and bad areas, just like anywhere. Three Oaks area is also close and is probably a little more upscale. Not as many individual homes for rent there though. It's mostly condos and townhouse communities. If you didn't mind being a little farther from campus you could also extend your search to Estero. I'll look around too and see if I can find any ideas for you. I'll also message you my email address.

Well here are some places that I think look nice. I have at least seen the complexes on all of these and know the areas. I have not been in all of the apartments though and most of these are gated so I can't really drive through the community, unfortunately. Here's a list with some phone numbers to get you started: Palms of Monterrey 239-204-4836 - This is very close to my work and is probably 15 minutes from campus. Looks very nice from the outside. Ashlar Apartment Homes 239-244-8044 - This is closer to school, probably closer to 10 minutes at the most I would say. Very close to the other hospital I work at, which we will have some rotations at also. Near a busy area. I think it's right by a really nice bike trail if I remember correctly. Salamanca Ponite 239-244-8103 - This is probably 20 minutes from campus. My husband and I lived here when we first moved down to Florida. Nice pool and not a huge complex so you don't have to share it with a ton of people. The parking lots in some spots tend to flood really bad however so be careful which apartment you pick. Very close to the fire station I think so there were lots of fire trucks it seemed like. Apartments are cute however and you can get a townhouse. They definitely take pets and the whole community is pet friendly. The Promenade at Reflection Lakes 239-244-8011 - This also looks nice from the outside. Probably less than 10 minutes from 2 of the hospitals we will have rotations. 15 minutes from school. Bay Harbor Apartments (239) 454-3344 - My friend lived here. Very cute. He used to bike ride to the beach (about 7 miles one way). One of my favorite areas of Fort Myers but not as close to campus. I know they take dogs. The apartments are very spacious and nice. I would recommend a unit close to the back of the complex, which butts up onto a protected wetland area. Kinda further from school however. This would be at least 20 minutes to campus but is maybe 5 minutes from the hospital I mostly work at. I'll try to come up with some more options which are closer to school but just thought I would give you some stuff to look at. I hope this will help some!

I'll pick up an apartment guide and look in the paper. I live really close to campus. There may be houses for rent around here too. Any specific things you're looking for? If you find something that you would like me to check out for you just say the word! Let me drive by a couple places I have in mind and I'll give you some info tonight or tomorrow.

If anyone is looking for hotels, there are three that I can think of of hand that are right down the road from FGCU.Hilton Garden InnHomewood SuitesHoliday InnIf you wanted to stay on the beach it's a bit of a drive. I would recommend staying somewhere within walking distance of "times square". That's where all the shops and restaurants are on Ft Myers beach.

Wow! So not as great chances as we hoped then. Well if it is meant to be then it will happen. They let you know by the time you leave? I can't imagine how they do that. Don't they have to meet and discuss the candidates and all? Unless they have time to do that while we are touring the campus etc. Hokieicurn, are you wanting to stay somewhere close to FGCU or would you rather stay on the beach or something? It's about 8-10 miles or so from school to Fort Myers Beach.

I am trying to find out the scoop on what the interviews are like. I know several people that go there. I'm just waiting to hear back from them. I was told that there weren't really any clinical questions though. Expect to be there all day. There will be a campus tour and presentation.

The director called me a couple of days before the deadline but I haven't heard anything since. I imagine if I were to get a letter i would get it quickly since I live close by. I'll let you all know if I get anything. Are you having to fly in then? Good luck!

Neuro Nursing
Neuro critical care is as good experience as any other ICU as long as the level of acuity is high. I know plenty of people who have gotten in to Master's programs with only Neuro ICU experience. That being said, as a former neuro icu nurse who now does CTICU, there are also alot of things that you won't get as much experience with like PA catheters and tons of drips. Conversely you don't get ICP monitoring experience in CTICU! Neuro ICU experience won't prevent you from getting into school. Every type of unit has its benefits. As long as your target schools day say that they will not accept a certain type of unit, you are fine.

studying for CNRN exam this fall...
I don't think there are any CNRN specific books with questions, at least when I took the test. My recommendation would be to buy a CCRN question book with a neuro section. I like Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio's Critical Care Exam Review. Doing it this way will only give you about 25 pages or so of questions but if you buy a couple books you'll be fine. And then, when you sit for your CCRN you'll already have some books!
