  1. Thanks Rose_Queen, just want to throw it out there that people can PM me if they prefer. I do not need to know whether or not they work at the hospital. I just want to know if anyone happens to know of any organizations that have moved away from secondary medications altogether. This can be public knowledge - I do not need to know policies specifically. I just would appreciate a point in the right direction as I have been calling and emailing many facilities and I know there are probably only a handful that have gone piggyback-less. If I have names of hospitals, then at that point I can focus my efforts on contacting the CNS's at those locations for further detail. In Canada, pediatric hospitals have done away with secondary medications altogether. Thanks in advance for any information people can provide!
  2. Hello lovely fellow nurses! I am a nurse at a pediatric hospital and am reaching out to other organizations for assistance with some benchmarking that we are doing for a quality improvement project regarding inadvertent clamping of lines (piggyback/secondary infusions as well as continuous syringe infusions). It would be so helpful if you all would be willing to share with me the following information: Name of children's hospital & whether or not secondary/piggybacks are utilized. (Some organizations have gone away with piggyback infusions altogether and it has been a challenge to identify which organizations those are). I would also be interested to know in which pediatric organizations that clamping of microbore tubing on continuous syringe infusions is NEVER done, or organizations that use microbore tubing WITHOUT clamps. Thanks so much! If this sort of post is not allowed, please let me know!
  3. Hey guys, actually about 200 students were interviewed. This year there's over 500 applications.
  4. Hey lithiumpink, We are about to enter midterms season for this semester so I can't promise I'll be on allnurses regularly starting next week but perhaps other people on this site who are on the FB group can keep y'all updated. Hope you all hear back from the school really soon!
  5. Hey superfryk, Did you get a fb message? There was someone who requested to join cohort IX but I think it was a fake profile and I also couldn't send them a message.
  6. Hi Ceci, I sent you a message on fb. You have to look in your message inbox under "other" because fb changed some things around.
  7. If you guys see cohort IX, go ahead and send us a request or message and one of the admins can send you the correct link for the cohort X group.
  8. Hey, did you guys type in the full name exactly as it appears: Western University of Health Sciences MSN-E Cohort X? I know that the other cohorts will pop up first because there are more members in it. Please let me know if you still can't find the group and I'll see what I can do.
  9. hey guys! I know that y'all are very anxious and there aren't many of us who are very active on allnurses from previous cohorts. We just started a FB group for future cohort X students. Please search for Western University of Health Sciences MSN-E Cohort X and join. :)
  10. The westernu website should have information about preview day. I don't think I can post a link on allnurses. During your breakout session, there will be a Q&A opportunity with us where anyone from the group of visiting prospective students can ask questions. However, I definitely encourage you to come to the NSNA table earlier in the morning before breakout happens because we will be able to answer questions more one on one, especially if you don't feel comfortable asking questions with the entire group in the lecture hall. :) I hope to see some of you there. To answer a few questions to relieve some anxiety: Towards the end of Dec/early Jan, the early acceptance people found out. Those individuals meet with the staff on a separate day to learn more about the program in lieu of an interview. I was invited to interview sometime in early January and I was part of the first few groups on the week of January 19th. I believe the school had a second round of interviews done in late Jan/early feb and another round in late Feb/early March. (Maseca, please correct me if I'm wrong).
  11. Hi everyone! I hope that some of you can make it to preview day which is this upcoming Saturday! Three of us from cohort 9 will be there to answer questions and we will also be manning the NSNA (National Student Nurses' Association) table in the morning so please feel free to stop by!
  12. Hi Maseca! Glad to see I'm not the only one lurking around to see if any questions need some answering! I'm also in this year's cohort with Maseca. The allnurses thread for Fall 2012 was SO helpful that I was hoping someone would start a fall 2013 one so that I can pay it forward. I really didn't know that much about WesternU until I started looking into nursing programs. The only one I had heard of was SMU in northern Cali from a good friend. I went to both an information session (usually hosted in the evening on a weekday) and Preview Day (hosted on a Saturday and they provide breakfast and some great information about the University itself, not just the college you are looking into). I found both extremely informative and very welcoming. Like Maseca, I didn't have the best grades my first two years in undergrad due to some family issues. However, I worked very hard on all my prereqs and had multiple friends rip apart my personal statement. Ultimately, I think it boils down to the personal statement and the interview. Reason why I say this is because not all students in this cohort are straight A, cum laude students. We all come from a variety of educational backgrounds (arts, sciences, humanities, etc.) and some even already have a masters degree in another discipline. I also touched on why I wanted to go to WesternU specifically as well as my personal motivations for wanting to pursue a career in the health professions. So far, orientation week has been wonderful and definitely cemented the fact that I made the right choice for me in choosing this school. They are very student-centered and definitely go out of their way to ensure every student's success in the program. In addition, I think they were very selective in who they chose to make sure that the cohort would function well as a group/team. So far, I have not gotten any vibes of competitiveness which you may find in some schools between students but rather waves of support.
  13. hey guys, one person that is in the FB group is off the alternates list and was accepted. I don't know any details other than that.
  14. Well, I posted the question on our FB group and there weren't any responses to it - and it's a pretty talkative group so I'm assuming there isn't anyone in there who's been accepted off the alternates list.
  15. Hey guys, I can't imagine how frustrating it is to have to wait so long. Just FYI, we recently received an email from one of our admissions counselors and one person noted in our facebook group that the email was sent to 62 different individuals. I know the program plans for approx 60 individuals per cohort. I think everyone in the FB group has turned in all their required paperwork/transcripts/titers etc. plus background checks but many of us still are on "hold" on our student accounts which means the school is still going through everything. I'll ask on the FB group if any of the recent members were accepted off the waitlist and keep you guys updated for those of you who aren't in that group.
