San Antonio College Nursing Student confues about the price of Fundamental of Nursing
I was wondering about this too. I purchased the book and access code (w/out text) online, but I read that we need access to videos also and I dont know if this is another access code (Pretice Hall Real Nursing Skills), CD-rom, or accessed through MyNursingLab. Thinking about returning my purchases and just going to L & M to be safe. Let me know if you figure anything out :)

San Antonio College Spring 2012
hey, who is starting flex ii with me? getting ready to move to san antonio in a few weeks and want to make some friends :) also, if i read correctly, we need to go to the campus on 1/5 to register for our classes and that we will be assigned classes at that time (had a moment of panic when i saw that classes are already full.) was also wondering, for flex ii how do we catch up on classes, or do we have to wait a semester to graduate???

Hi schmoodle, I switched to flex II since I am trying to relocate...I have my hands fulls without adding school to the mix too! I am going next week to do my drug test and then drop off my packet...I will be so glad to be done and have all this stuff finished. Am a little nervous, since I dont even know my way around San Antonio, but excited too!

Thanks so much noelle0910! It is so hard when you have no idea what to expect, so I really appreciate your insight. How were clinicals? That is probably what I am most scared of...can't wait to start the program though!

jaevigil, who is your insurance carrier? Have a nagging feeling I never recieved my Hep B (born in 1975), my old pediatricians said that they are pulling my records, but it has been almost 6 weeks. If I havent heard anything I am going to just break down and shell out the money to have my testing done. I will be so sad if I cant start in January, but at this point there isn't anything I can do. Humana said no, so I have switched to BCBS, but havent called them yet.

Yay cegr, I am so happy for you!!! Good luck, I know you will do great :)

That is my concern, finances are so tight right now that I can't afford to get stuck with a huge bill. Once the insurance kicks in I will call, but I have a feeling they will say the same thing (that is what Humana told me...no vaccines, even boosters, are covered for adults except the flu shot. Have a feeling BCBS will be the same.) Hate insurance companies!!! I will be glad when this stupid stuff is done and I can focus on school :)

jaevigil, what did BCBS cover? Will they cover the vaccine titers and TB test along with the boosters? Thank you so much, you have given me a glimmer of hope that I can get this taken care of! My new policy kicks in on the 7th, but I have a feeling if I call and ask if they will cover then they will say no, but didn't want to take the chance of going through a PCP and ending up with a huge bill.

I have all the classes completed except for the nursing classes (finishing up Ethics this semester.) My GPA is around 3.8. Good luck, focus on those pre-req's and you should be fine...like cegr said, there is no TEAS or HESI exams to get in so that is a bonus.

San Antonio College Spring 2012
Yay cegr! Did my background and fingerprints on Wednesday but still trying to sort out all this insurance stuff so I can get my titers done (husband has heard rumour that he may be losing his job so I cant spend the money out of pocket right now .) I am really scared I will need to do the Hep B series since I dont have enough time to get all 3, so I just need to see how things play out...new insurance kicks in on the 7th so I will try that. Bet you are so relieved to be done and ready to go! How is everyone else doing?

sduncan86, yes you can just reply back to the acceptance letter...it is the same e-mail. There is also a "notice of intention to attend" that we are turning in (page 9 of the packet) so even if she missed your e-mail then that is a back up. Hope everyone is doing good, the next few months will fly by!!!

Thanks for the suggestions! That is fantastic about the STD clinic, I checked that website and looked at the vaccination tab and their price list was $55 Tdap, $80 MMR etc...so that is sneaky that you need to go through the STD clinic to get cheaper shots. I am still in Houston and check on the county health department here and they have TB tests for $5!! I also found a vaccination clinic that will run titers for $65 each, so that is the best pricing I have found. I think I will wait until the new insurance kicks in and see if I can use that (20% for labs so that would be fantastic!) and if not then I will just fork over money at the clinic for titers. Also still waiting to see if my pediatrician can locate my ancient records...fingers crossed!!! Pretty sure they have been destroyed by now, but we'll see. No luck on electronic vaccinations records...I am way too old

I thought that might be a problem...we will just have to keep sending notes on here back and forth! Where are you getting your TB test done? I am switching insurance from Humana to BCBS so hopefully once that takes effect they will cover what I need...otherwise looks like I am shelling out about $500 for titers, TB test, and boosters...booo!

I know, can you imagine trying to keep them clean? I read that the previous semesters need to remain in white until they graduate, so we are really lucky to be starting when we are. Private message me your contact info and I will be sure to let you know when I am planning my next visit...it will be really nice to have some friends in town (plus have someone to work through this whole maze with and some study buddies once classes start :))

I am still in Houston, so doing my CPR etc here...found a place for around $40 down the road. Having a really tough time figuring out where to go for the TB test, boosters and titers...called my insurance and they wont cover it...I am SO mad ...for the $800 a month we pay you would think they would cover it! Trying my pediatricians office again (had tried last year but no luck...I am 36 so my records are really old.) Fingerprinting is set up for next Wed, so it will be nice to have at least one thing checked off this massive to-do list. Im excited about the scrubs too, I already started shopping around and have seen some really cute stuff (5 pocket cargo scrub bottoms and a cute little wrap top with longer sleeves...have a couple of tattoo's I need to cover.) Keep me up to date with what is going on! I am planning a visit in November to check on the status of our new house and visit the campus so maybe we can all get together for coffee?
