sorry to hear that you guys are having a hard time finding a job, i work at UCLA been there for over 8 years and i hear how hard it is to get into, especially new grads. A couple of years ago they had a hiring freeze then last year they took in more new grads. As they are a magnet facility they only take BSN students and it is also good if you are already in the system. There are several good hospitals in southern cali, cedars and kaiser and i have worked in both and thought they were both great, although cedars would be my next choice then kaiser. i do believe that you should just apply to any hospital just to get some experience, i met a new grad that had graduated over one year and did not have a job, she is now in home health. Hi i work in los angeles and have worked at cedars sinai on the float pool for about six months. i have heard more positive stuff about usc and funnily enough i am looking for a full time job and after speaking to other nurses i will apply at usc. my reason is mostly because of the benefits i heard are really good. i also work at ucla which to me is the best out of all the hospitals but that is just me being bias. have you considered working at UCLA?

HI i worked in nyc in 2009 from may till august at Columbia presbyterian hospital. i was housed in a studio in a very nice area in the upper west side, 3 mins walk from central park. Work was a 10 minute drive on the subway and a 7 minute walk it was perfect. i did not take my own housing because i was not sure what to do but i plan to go again this time and will take my own so that i can keep some of the money. My travel company was cross country and their rates were low about $32. i must say i had a tv, linen, utensils everything in the studio, i mention this because i have spoken to several people that travel and they have to provide their own televisons etc..... i was there for 13 weeks and absolutely loved it!!!!! i would look on craigslist to rent a room the next time, i have spoken to people that have done this and they say that they have made some good friends through this. i loved the hospital, i worked in the micu and the nurses are very nice there. i work in california so the only shock there for me was the no ratio part where i could have up to three patients but that was about once a month and the 3rd pt was usually very easy anyway. Hope you enjoy yourself cause i know i did, there is so much to do.

There is a travel agency called continental nurses they may be able to help you although their rates are really low, and the travel nursing is not like the states. i am a british nurse but have been working in the states for over seven years. in london we take nurses with acute care experience, no new grads, we perform all the tasks you have stated and much more. nurses in london have much more autonomy than the nurses in the states cause no one is scared of being sued.lol and in the icu the ratio with nurse to patient is 1:1.
