Was the Graston Technique inspired by the Strigil tool?

Im currently researching soft tissue therapy and I came across the Graston Technique that started in '94. I am curious to know is this technique inspired by a tool the Romans, as well as other cultures used called a Strigil? I understand that this tool was mostly used for cleaning off dirt and oils, but did it not essentially provide the same results that the Graston technique provides? My 5 year old son keeps complaining that his chest hurts. So me being the corpsman that i am i took my stethascope and listened to his chest and heart and i am a little lost. His heart beats were uneven, when he would breath in they would become tachy then when he would breath out they would stop then become very brady. I understand childrens heartbeats vary from adults, but if this was one of my patients i would have done an EKG to see if there were any abnormalities and then transported them to the nearest ER. Am i just overthinking this or should i get him checked out? I feel silly asking all this but i just couldn't find anything on this when i researched it! Thank you in advance!
