Well, I have been accepted for the RT program!!! I am so excited to start this Fall! I'm hoping to be able to do this for a few years while working on my RN. From what I see now (which doesn't say what it will be in 2014), it looks like there are several positions available around here for CRT and RRTs, so prayers that it will be that way or better by the time I graduate. Best of luck to all and hope to hear more from members on their experiences with this field as well as nursing.

Hi! I know this thread is over a year old, but I thought I would see if anyone else is in school for RT. Like the other poster said, I wish there was a great site like this for RTs, but I have found some of the best info here! I really enjoy reading experiences with both RN and RTs, good or bad. I'm hoping to get my letter of acceptance with my RT program this week or early next week for this Fall's RT program. I started off wanting to be an RN, but after seeing how many applied this year and where I stood on points in comparison to last years applicants, I chose the RT program. Thankfully I have all my prereqs complete for RT, so I don't think I'll have a problem being accepted (although I don't want to count chickens before they hatch) LOL. Well, like I said, I really enjoy reading advice and experiences, so I hope to learn how to be a better asset in the healthcare field for all departments from all of your input. Thanks!

RT was something I had heard a girl in my Bio105 course say she decided to take b/c the RN program fills so quickly. I decided to check it out and after watching videos on youtube and reading as much as I could about the field, I decided it wasn't a bad idea. Especially since I had all my prereqs complete for RT. I have 17 points out of 21 for the app and hold a 4.0 GPA in all my prereqs. The program still shows as accepting apps till Fall or the program fills, so I'm hoping to hear something this week. I've read on this site that RTs that went from RT to RN were better nurses because of their time in RT. They are better able to assess breath sounds and have a better understanding of the respiratory field in general (obviously). I'm hoping to finish this and get on somewhere that will help pay for my RN or BSN in the future. Good luck!!:)

Well, I officially withdrew my app from the RN program and put in for the RT program in March. I should find out soon if I have been accepted or not and could not be more happy with my decision! I am so happy for all of you and wish everyone the best in the future!! Thanks for posting and sharing your excitement! I look forward to hearing more from those who got in and how school goes from here on out. I do plan on returning to school for my RN later, so any experiences you are willing to share will be much appreciated!! Good luck and Best Wishes!

I know this thread is kinda old, but SUPER INFORMATIVE!!! I really enjoyed reading everyone's input and experiences!! Invaluable information, really! I am currently waiting to hear whether or not I've been accepted into the RT program and couldn't be more excited after reading this thread! I'll probably try to go back for nursing later in my career, but am excited about the future in healthcare PERIOD. Thank you, to all the RTs, RNs and everyone else who took the time to post to this. Very helpful for students!

Well, I went ahead and applied..........received my letter from Enrollment Services yesterday and will be taking the Pre-exam sometime in Feb. Look forward to hearing more stories!

Hi MrsJeanine! Thanks for replying! Sounds like you have a great plan!! I'm so excited for you! As for me, I've decided to hold off on applying until next fall, which is hard to swallow, but at the same time, I need to get all my prereqs done so I am better able to manage clinicals and RN classes. I'm currently taking Chem 101, Bio 105 (as I had originally planned to do the Rad Tech program), and Med Terminology. I'm hoping my Bio instructor will allow me to take his 158 in the Spring w/o taking 157, so that I can keep on schedule while having my same teacher. Wish I would have known I was going to switch over to nursing before taking 105, would have saved some money and class time!! Oh, well. Guess I'll just have an extra good understanding of A & P! Hi everyone! I just joined the site and wanted to add a place for students applying for nursing programs for next Fall. September 1st marked the first day to apply to the Nursing Program for SWIC, so after a lot of thought, I went to the counselor and changed my program to Nursing instead of the Rad Tech program. I am currently taking Chem 101, Bio 105 and Med Terminology. I completed English 101 a few years ago as well. If I do well and gather the 8 point max on the Pre-exam, I should apply with 17 points, if I am able to achieve a B in Bio and Chem. Hoping to hear from other students and their situations and looking forward to sharing the long wait till April when we should hear who got in the program!!
