  1. Hi! I was accepted for the May 4th 2015 cohort. I'm in Charlotte, NC.
  2. In the meantime try visiting T.E. Johnson and Sons website http://www.tejrentals.com/result.php?table=apartments They have up to date lists of rentals and some in your price range. The office is in downtown Winston Salem and the gentlemen there is very nice. Maybe he could line up a few for you to look over a weekend and you could move in that Monday, staying in a hotel for a night or two. Best case would be to come for a visit for a day in December and look at a few places. I know it can be hard to find a place when you aren't familar with the area. Have you ever had to relocate before?
  3. Hi mmuaa32, I will be looking this weekend and I can let you know. Last visit I looked at a couple of places on the Hawthorne side of the hospital simply because I had some extra time. They were sort of scary but for the price, I kind of expected that. People will mention areas like Country Club, Ardmore and West End and these seem nice but you have to consider your price range. I have also been contacting folks from craigslist. I have connected with many medical students, employees at Baptist etc so they have helped me figure out the area a bit more. Also consider how far you want to commute. For me, if I move, I want to move closeby although some people mention Kernersville as a nice surrounding area. There are SO many apartment complexes and I believe in one way or another they are all the same. Do you want to live alone? Sharehouses are nice because you can live in a better area for a split rate and your potential roommates may be able to navigate the city or give you some tips. I wouldn't choose a place based on website or online reviews alone. Are you planning on making a trip up closer to January to look at some places? or are you planning on lining up a place from a distance? Winston Salem residents chime in anytime.
  4. Now that I am getting more comfortable with the area of Winston, I can see myself living around there especially with so many students roaming about. As we get closer to orientation I am getting more and more excited. I am looking as well and have a similar plan to finalize my living situation by Dec. Hopefully we hear about funding soon. Some of the interview questions were interesting... When were you most angry? or Are you more likely to confront, avoid or report a problem? Towards the end of the interview I felt like I kept repeating myself. Oh man. Anywho hope everyone is doing well!
  5. hi jecrews83, i will be visiting winston salem in decemeber to look for potential housing. if you want to get together, you or anyone that is interested, we can surely meet up before school starts. i hope everyone had a great interview and if there are still those who are waiting, good luck!! :yeah:the nurse recruiter is friendly and the interview overall was an enjoyable experience. pede84, are you still considering commuting? i am debating. what part of charlotte is your family from? i may stay with my aunt in kannpolis if you wanted to contemplate carpooling with me. it would be a two hour a day study session!
  6. Hey MsWuf, did you get my PM?
  7. pede 84, I was thinking about commuting also, because for me it would be about an hour and a half. But, there are a few problems I want to avoid. Weather is one. I am simply nervous that I will be caught in an ice storm or road closures. Traffic is another issue. Also, from the looks of the schedule we will be in class or clinicals four days a week. For my sanity I would prefer to relax, sleep and study instead of driving 3+ hours a day. Ms Wuf suggested that Ardmore is close to the hospital and I have had some luck in finding a few decent places. With Wake Forest nearby there are many students in the area looking for rentals or roomies. Nothing concrete yet although I am still deciding whether I want to live alone or with roommates. If it gets too expensive or I want to see my family I can always come back to Charlotte. Also, it depends on where you live in Charlotte/Charlotte Area. If you live in the northern parts it may only be an hour drive.
  8. Well, surprisingly, I just got an email and they had to reschedule me for the 28th at 11a. :yeah:Maybe we can meet up after all :)
  9. My interview is on the 27th and I will be moving from Charlotte. You sound like you at least know the names of the areas, I am unfamilar at best. When is your interview? I had mentioned earlier getting coffee with anyone who would be around during that time if you/anyone is interested? Good luck!! Good luck to everyone!
  10. mswuf , i am relocating too! do you know where you are going to live? i am searching but i want to be close to campus and the hospital. hopefully on my interview day i can tour around the city a bit more to get a better idea.
  11. For anyone not reading the other thread, a nurse recruiter from WFBH just called to schedule an interview.
  12. Hey Guys, I just got a call from the nurse recruiter from WFBH and I scheduled my interview for late October! :rckn: If anyone wants to meet for coffee I think it would be fun to get to know each other before the chaos begins!
  13. tkp3321, yes, i got a response via email. she replied, [color=#215868]"on the letter, it explains that all documents must be completed and received by oct. 21. therefore, even if you wait until oct. 21 to submit payment for your background check, you will be fine. the information may not completed on the 21st, but at least we will know that you have started the process. [color=#215868] [color=#215868]hope this helps…. let me know if you still have questions." i ordered my background check and now i have to go to a labcorp to get the drug test. as far as an email from baptist, i am patient because from reading other threads, sometimes they don't find out until late nov.
  14. I am right there with you. Coming from Charlotte I am also worried about weather delays during the winter months. I don't want an ice storm to prevent me from getting in my clinical hours. I have worked plenty of 12 hour shifts on the floor, add learning nursing techniques/philosophies/performing the tasks required; it will surely be even more draining. I am also waiting on the WFBH interview because depending on stipend, I may or may not be able to afford and place to stay. Keep in touch : ) Any Charlotte commuters out there?
  15. mmuaa32 I don't live in the area : ( I am also looking for a place to stay possibly, but I am also debating commuting from Charlotte. I would call the WSSU student housing and ask if they know of good locations. Although they have dorms, they also could be helpful finding a nice/quiet place off campus. I'll keep you posted if I see anything. I was mainly looking on craigslist.
  16. TKP3321, I got an email back. She is going to ask the director and get back to me on Monday. It seems there is a possibility that it is not due 10/21 but we'll see.
  17. Interestedinabsn, The GPA I posted did not include my post-bac work. After graduating I decided to take some courses in physics and chemistry. Once I decided that nursing was a better fit than med school, I started getting As in all of my pre-reqs. I also took nutrition which was not a WSSU requirement but for other programs it usually is. I gave transcripts from all of my study abroad coursework. I am unsure about how they go through the decision making process. I do know that when I met with the adviser in May, which was a requirement for WSSU's ABSN, I had a great feeling and felt a connection. I got a copy of the advising worksheet to hang on to which stated I had completed all the pre-reqs and it also explained which nursing classes I would need to complete the program. I turned this in with my application to show that I had met with her and she approved me. I am a 25 y/o white female in great health. I have worked as a CNA/PCT for three years under the supervision of the nurses. I live in Charlotte. Have you tried applying to Queens ABSN? Hope this helps.
  18. I am going to get it done by next week. Simply because I want to get it out of the way. I sent an email asking about it so if I hear anything back I'll let you know.
  19. - Criminal Background Check and Drug Screening Information - Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Scholarship Application - Orientation Schedule - Course Schedule - Direct Deposit Form - Info about Nursing Scholarship Programs Also, it says that WFBH will notify us to schedule an interview. There is a reminder to apply to WSSU if you haven't already done so. I didn't read anything about books.
  20. I received my acceptance packet this evening Good luck to everyone!
  21. Anyone else get their acceptance packet tonight? There is a tentative schedule that doesn't look as harsh as I expected. Given there are going to be a a few months of non-stop clinicals, they are offset by periods of slower paced classroom studies. I am excited! Also, a few more "breaks" included than what I had read previously on the message boards. Only one thing is certain, things will change! ABSN here I come!
  22. I have read on other threads that interviews and selection take place throughout November. So a call to schedule an interview should be coming up by the end of this month.
  23. Hello! I've been accepted to WSSU's ABSN program starting in January 2012. Let's get this party started! Where is everyone from? Anyone commuting? From where? Hopes? Fears? Dreams? We will be undergoing a tremendous change over the next year. I am excited but nervous and honored to be in your class! :) Hopefully we can use this board for study groups, question and answer, car pools and overall support throughout the program.
  24. Maybe they are disorganized. I'm hoping more emails will be sent out tomorrow.
