What do FNP students do during clinicals???
It really will depend on your preceptor and where your clinicals are. I know I had MD and NP preceptors throughout my program and each were different. At urgent care clinicals, I had the opportunity for more of the "simple office" procedures like I&D, suturing, etc .. and in family practice it was more knee/shoulder steroid injections. You will do assessments, take HPIs, ROS, etc. It is very scary at first, but you will quickly get the hang of it. Good luck!

Looking for adn-FNP online program with a low GPA
NP I saw you PMed me, although I can't message back because I don't post on here frequently. With that being said, to answer your question I will probably not be too helpful. I found out last year in 4 days that I was accepted to GU. I applied literally a few days before the deadline end for Jan 2013 cohort start (which if I remember right was right after Thanksgiving) and I found out 4 days later (on a Sunday night!) via email. I think they tend to wait until closer to the cohort's deadline before giving decisions. Ex: if you applied very early before your cohort deadline or start date it might take longer to hear answer. Good luck to you, GU is a wonderful program and I'm learning a lot!

Georgetown Online FNP Fall 2013 Applicants
There are many places online to apply for scholarships, you just have to find some and apply. Many places have loan repayment programs that will pay back a portion of your loans (if not all) for working in certain areas. When applying, the advisors are helpful with providing websites that have scholarship and loan programs for your area. Hope that helps!

Georgetown Online FNP Fall 2013 Applicants
Yeah the class time is definitely different, but so similar to a regular class. I had about 3 1/2 years of RN experience when I applied -- all in Surgical Oncology (no peds, women's health, or primary care as you have to answer in the application). I received by BSN from East Carolina University. The online classes are extremely easy to navigate and you go through a pretty extensive orientation to get familiar with how everything works. So I have two classes this semester (pathophysiology and biostatistical research) and the classes were available for the most part Tuesday-Friday at random times throughout the day. You register just like you would any class and the time you register for is the time you be in class for the remainder of the semester. For example if you have Patho on Wednesday from 1-3pm then every Wednesday you will have that class with the same professor and same classmates. There are modules to do each week before class that include some pre-recorded lectures on power points, etc...these are to prepare you for class time so you can spend time discussing the material and answering questions. Hopefully you find out soon! As I said, so far it has been awesome and more than I could have expected!

Georgetown Online FNP Fall 2013 Applicants
Hi there! Good luck with applying! I just started this January 2013 cohort and so far everything has been awesome! Classes just started and it is definitely fast paced and tons of info! When I applied the end of November, the application process was pretty quick! It is a lot of stuff to do, with the shadowing, the interview video, etc. but once I had everything in and my application was final, I heard the decision in 4 DAYS! I got an email on a Sunday night that said I was accepted! You shouldn't be too bummed that they no longer offer the campus program, because truly the way the classes are conducted via webcam format, it really feels like an in-person class! Good luck with the application!! Let me know if you have any questions at all!

Is a DNP worth it in my situation?
Ok, so here is what is going on with me: I'm a BSN RN with 3 years of experience working in a hospital in FL Salary is 63k and I love the patients on my floor and my coworkers, it's a great atmosphere, I'm happy with my current salary I'm torn because I always thought I wanted to become a NP for the autonomy, flexibility, etc. but now all of the schools in FL have changed over to a DNP. Now I've been building pros and cons and I find myself piling reasons into the cons section for returning to school. The thoughts that I am having is, will it really be worth it to take 4 full years out of my life to dedicate to school? Yes, I have to work some weekends and holidays in my current situation, but we all know how we love the flexibility of working in a hospital and how we are able to take up to 8 days off without using PTO right? LOL I have NO student loans right now because I was awarded scholarships throughout my undergrad, and the thought of borrowing $30,000+ makes me sick to my stomach. I know that NPs make more $, but will it be enough to pay off all this accrued debt I will have? I mean I love vacationing as much as possible, and I don't see this happening with that much debt under my name. Since I've been coming up with these reasons that I shouldn't return to school, it makes me worry that if I did happen to return to school, I wouldn't be giving it 0 and I know starting a DNP you have to really WANT to do it. I don't know, I'm just torn, has anyone else had a similar situation?
