I'm currently in school for my MSN with 5 more courses to go! I want my freedom after school but also think about a PhD.... Who has a PhD and what was it like? Is it completely different from your graduate studies and more independent? How long to complete and what are you doing with your degree? ANY information welcome!

If anything I will still pay what I am paying now monthly even if they are all deferred, but i am trying to see how much an estimated monthly payment would be tacking on the graduate loans if I don't defer them.

Hi all, I am going to venture on to my MSN! I am currently paying off my undergrad student loans and have about 8 years left as I'm on a 10 year plan. I was talking to my loan servicer who said that once I enroll back in school my loans will be deferred again and I cannot "pick and choose" what loans are in deferment or not. I WANTED my undergrad loans to still have auto pay on them, and graduate loans deferred but that won't work. So my question to you all is do I defer my loans again but keep putting the same monthly payment towards it as if they weren't in deferment or TRY and pay of my graduate loans along with undergrad at the same time and NOT defer them? Anyone doing this?

Where on the weekends and evenings are you doing your clinical?

I know a girl who went there for her FNP at that school and she seemed to like it! she just graduated a few months ago!

I work in a family practice clinic and 10 hour days aren't an option unfortunately and even working four 9 hour days may not be an option because once they "lose" that 1.0 FTE status (aka someone working every day M-F) they may not get it back. I can look into preceptors at hospitals on the weekend, i wouldn't have a problem with that but i don't have any connections at this time.

I will look into it, but I don't think I can do my normal job and consider that practicum hours

I want to get my msn in leadership so bad. I found the school I want to go to but it needs a total of 378 practicum hours over three semesters. I work full time in a family practice clinic Monday through Friday. I have no idea if I could pull off taking vacation for all those practicum hours needed and I don't even know if my job could accommodate me going less than full time 1.0 FTE anyone else out there do msn while full time?!

I think you would be fine with the msn alone! I have found conflicting articles regarding RNs doing msn vs mba vs mha

I am in dire need and need help. I enrolled in an MBA degree because I want to be a clinic manager one day. I chose the MBA vs MSN/MHA because I do not have time to complete a practicum while I work full time, and do not know if dropping down would be an option for me between the company's needs but also because of my need to work full time for those full time paychecks. Also, most practicums are 150+ hours, and I doubt I could take 150 hours "off" during a semester. Currently I work M-F full time in a family practice clinic as an RN Team Coordinator (this gives me experience supervising 4 LPNs/MAs). I know that to be a manager I need to put my time in as a nurse and gain more experience supervising (I just started this position in October). Anywho, I enrolled in this MBA which is going to cost me about an extra $35,000 to pay off (in addition to my $60,000 debt already). I am in my first week of classes and I am already thinking to myself "what am I doing?!" I don't NEED this degree to become a clinic manager one day, I need to put in my time, gain experience, and this degree will take me about 2 years to complete anyways, it's not going to get me to becoming a manager SOONER..... I made a hasty decision because I was unhappy and not confident at my job and made the decision to go back to school now while I'm younger but I thought to myself tonight, why not put in the experience and pick up some continuing education courses/classes and some nursing study books to FEEL more confident instead? Maybe I could take a few managerial/leadership courses but not necessarily an MBA. So, now I am in this position of do I give it the "college try" and finish this course and see how it goes or drop now and get 100% refund back? My mind is kind of made already to be honest..... (drop now and get my full refund vs having to pay back $2,300 for this 3 credit course). ANY advice is greatly appreciated, sorry for the long post. I really need advice from fellow RN's and managers.

I need help. I feel like every every job I do I'm looking for my niche and what makes me happy. I am a BSN RN. I worked in a nursing home, family practice clinic, utilization review, employee health and I am back in a family practice clinic. I left family practice the first time because I wanted to get into case management and was advised to try utilization review first. I did UR which was NOT for me and I missed patients and so I was able to get into employee health. From here this felt like high level baby sitting and I missed patients and learning so I went back to family practice. So so here I am. Feeling like I still don't have my niche and constantly wondering if nursing is even for me? I work full time m-f and constantly wonder if I can go down in hours because of the stress and anxiety. It got me thinking, is nursing for me?! What if I get an associates in business? Go further wtb a science degree? Maybe an MBA? help!!

I'm all about job satisfaction and work life balance. If you will have more job satisfaction and work life balance the cut is worth it (assuming you can truly afford it). If you can afford it and will be happier then do it :) Life is not all about work and money (granted it seems that way sometimes), but you have to be happy too.

I totally agree with you!!!! I went from a family med clinic to utilization review and now employee health and got a $13,000 increase but I know if I leave I will probably take a cut that steep or close

That is so great you are happy where you are! I truly agree that dragging yourself to a job you hate everyday is not worth the money. Life is TOO short!!!

That's how I feel. If I spend 40+ hours a week at a job I am not happy with I can justify a pay cut for sure. I live frugally as it is, granted I want to start travelling when things are more steady for me (wedding, house, etc) but even then I wouldn't do expensive travelling or outrageous trips. I am very big on happy work life happy life in general because when I am bogged down at work I bring it home and bring down my boyfriend because he hears about it and it's a cycle.

Oh wow. very interesting. I am super opposite! I would rather be happy in a job with lower pay than unhappy/slightly unhappy with better pay. Hope you are happy where you are now though :)
