Making a clinic presentation for elementary clinic
This is what I send out at the beginning of the year and again after Christmas break. I also do a PowerPoint at the beginning of the year that goes over everything. I send out bags of bandaids and tooth boxs too, so that helps on the little stuff. I had another nurse tell me that she will sometimes write on the kids pass "please handle in the classroom" and send them back if it is just silliness. I haven't tried that yet myself though!

How many students do you treat on a regular day?
30-40, 11 daily meds. Most stuff is simple stuff though. I would say I only see like 5 kids who are actually sick.

Has anyone left school nursing? If so did you regret it?
I could have written the post myself. I've been in school nursing for 2 years now and I feel the same way. My husbands military and I have 3 kids so the schedule is nice. I really hate being the only nurse in the building and being the only medical person too. I definitely understand about the days off too, it's hard getting everything done on the weekend and still having down time with your family. On the other hand, it's pretty low stress, the holiday vacations and summers are really nice. I'll probably stay for a couple more years while my kids are in school. Some days I definitely feel like I could use more of challenge though and I also worry about what kind of job I'll be able to find after this.

Pencil poke question.
Thank you guys, that makes me feel better. I always try my best to call when needed but some days are crazy and I'd be there all night if I called every parent. I suppose everything is a learning experience though!

Pencil poke question.
I know this seems silly but it's been bugging me. I had a kid come in and said he got poked in the thigh by a pencil. His overall demeanor was happy, he was with a friend and they were laughing. He had on tight jeans that he couldn't roll up so I had him go wash area with soap and water in the bathroom and he was given a band-aid. We are not allowed to assess any part of the body that is covered by clothing. He was walking fine, no blood or anything on his clothing. It all just seemed so minor. I didn't call parents bc of this seeming like a minor thing. The kid gave no indication that someone hurt him, he just told me he got poked by a pencil. Fast forward to yesterday, mom calls principal upset that she wasn't notified. She said he had to be taken to the hospital for it and to be looked at. I just feel really bad and like I should have done more but wondered what others would have done. I guess it's more of a vent than anything, I just feel like you can't win some days with this job. I really do love my job and feel like I do a good job to make sure everyone is taken care of but the silliness can be overwhelming.

DFW rn with questions :)
Thank you all for your input! I appreciate it What do you do as a field case manager? Also, what is PSA nursing? Sorry, I am still trying to get familiar with all of the home health terms.

DFW rn with questions :)
Hello! I am an RN in the DFW area. I have little over a years experience as an RN working in postpartum and a year experience working in pediatrics as an LVN. I have 3 children, 2 that are school age and a toddler. My husband has a demanding job in the Navy so I am looking for some flexibility. I am curious about nurses who work per diem for home health agencies. Ideally, I would like to work 2-3 days a week and only the hours that my kids are in school and just have to use part time daycare for my toddler. Is this possible with home health? I would just like to supplement my husbands income and do not need benefits. Any other moms out there doing something like this? Also, What kind of visits do you have? What skills are important to have? How is the training in home health ? Thank you for your time :)

Baylor January 2013 Internships
You could always email/call the nursing recruiter who set up the phone interview. The recruiter I have been working with is great, she always replys to emails or calls back quickly. Good luck!

Baylor January 2013 Internships
Well I saw that they had just posted an opening in that unit so I emailed the nurse manager asking about the opening. I let her know I was very interested and she got in touch with the recruiter and I had an interview a few days later. The next day they called with an offer! I'm very excited, it's taken a long time to find a job here . I got my license in November 2011 and since I was having a hard time with my adn I went and finished my bsn and graduated in September.

Wow ! That is awesome, congratulations!! I also graduated in July 2011 and have been looking for a while and applied to many internships with no luck . It is rough out there. I'm so glad you got a job you love! I had my interview at All Saints on Tuesday . It went well, I think. I had 9 behavioral interview questions so you are lucky! The nurse manager was very nice though. She said they won't be deciding until next Friday though. I'm really hoping I get it but if not at least I had an interview .

Keeping my fingers crossed and praying I get it! How is everyone else doing?

Baylor January 2013 Internships
I also just submitted my app, I didn't call or anything. I do live in fort worth , she asked me which place I preferred . Wow, three is not many but I feel fortunate to have an interview . I got my rn last November and applied to so many internships over the past year without any luck. I went back and got my bsn so I am thinking that has helped . It's a tough market in dfw, just have to be persistent I guess.
