  1. Hi! Congrats on getting in! I've been living in pittsburgh for a month now and I can tell you what I know. There is a bus system that is free for students which would probably be the best form of transportation to and from school. I know that parking in the garages near the school can be like $15-20 a day. Otherwise, most ppl in the program that I've met live mainly in squirrel hill or shady side. Both are roughly about 15 min bus ride to school. I found my house on Craigslist but I definitely recommend looking and contacting realtors asap for a place to live bc I think it might take a little bit more work to find a place in the winter. Hopefully that has helped a little bit. Let me know if you have more questions and I can try my best to help!
  2. Hi. Does anyone work at the penn state Hershey rehab hospital or know anything about it? I'm thinking of taking a position there but I was just wondering what it was like to work there. I've never worked at a rehab hospital so I'm not sure what to expect. Any input would be appreciated!
  3. Has anyone who has been accepted to the 2014/2015 class heard anything further from Pitt? When I got the call he said they were going to email more information a something to fill out verifying that we are accepting our positions. Has anyone gotten any emails from them?
  4. Anyone accepted to Pitt's class of Jan 2015?
  5. I heard back last Wednesday but it's very possible they are still making calls. But as far as I know, they do 2 rounds of interviews in November I think and then again in feb. If you don't hear by the end of the week, I'd def call again. Hopefully you hear good news soon!
  6. My stats: RN for 5 years with 4 of then spent working in a level 1 shock trauma icu. CCRN and moderate sedation certifications. I haven't heard anything yet so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Have you heard anything or do you know of anyone who has heard? I know they have a round of interviews in November as well so I'm hoping that they didn't fill their spots with those interviews. Do you know if they will notify us if we don't get an interview?
  7. I also applied for the 2014/2015 program. I sent my app in end of December and the only feedback I received so far was an email saying that my application was received and is being reviewed. I didn't get another form to fill out. Was it the one asking about your clinical experience or a different one? Also I thought that the website said that they interview Feb 11,12,13. Do you know if those dates were pushed back to march? I'm sure that they would call to schedule an interview though. I'm also getting anxious since it is getting closer to interview time!
  8. When did you have your application in? I'm currently working on my application with an initial deadline of June 15 and a final deadline of Sept 1. I just saw on their website that even if you have everything in on time, that their NursingCAS application service can take 4-6 weeks to verify applications and need to be verified before they are considered submitted. So I was just wonderng if you had yours in by the initial deadline or the final deadline.
  9. It would also be an 8 hour round trip drive and an extra $125 for hotel. So I am curious what you all think.
  10. I will be applying for Pitt's CRNA program this fall. I saw online that they are having a CRNA Spring Seminar in a few weeks and I was wondering if going to that would help my chances of getting in. They are offering it for current CRNAs, SRNAs, and current RNs interested in anesthesia. It would cost $50 for the morning lecture or $150 for morning and afternoon sessions including hands on simulation. I just wondered if anyone else has attended this and if it would help my chances enough to be worth the cost.
  11. I am looking to move to Pittsburgh and am not sure which hospitals are the best ones to work for. I have 2 years of MS experience and a little over a year of Shock Trauma ICU experience at a level 1 trauma. Im looking to go to another Level 1 ICU and have been looking into UPMC Mercy/Presby or Allegheny General. Does anyone have any experience with or advice about those critical care units? Also, I am curious about the area considering I would be moving there. I am in the very early stages of considering this move and haven't been to visit the hospitals or to check out the area yet and I'd really appreciate any input! Thanks!
  12. I am brand new to the ICU world and I was hoping that someone could please explain the different modes of mechanical ventilation and what makes certain modes more favorable for certain conditions. My preceptor has briefly explained them to me but she is a relatively new ICU nurse (
